  • Meena,

I'm sure that you will find this letter eventually. That is if you do return to Rosewalk at all. Perhaps you've already found your place out there in the Heath and have no need to come back here, back to this house, back to this table where we used to read. I'm sorry perhaps I'm being a little unfair and too much a cynic.

I've tried to write this letter almost a dozen times... you can probably find all the drafts in the bin if you wanted to. (they are not much better though)

The thing is, I have decided to leave Rosewalk. I know we had our plans and we made our promises, but after hearing your stories of the Heathland and listening to whispers on the wind across the bay I realized I want stories of my own. Once I stopped getting your letters I knew I had to find a way to go.

I am joining a wandering tavern that stopped in the city so ill be able to travel with plenty of rest. Hearth, the head chef said that I could come with them for free as long as I did a little work here and there. I brought along my flute so hopefully a bit of music will suffice. They are all really nice, and the caterpillar that caries the tavern, Levi, lets me feed him by hand sometimes.

So all I mean to say is, I don't want you to worry about me. I'll be okay and maybe someday we will see each other again out in the vastness of Heath.

    With love,

    Your friend,

    Elacore

  • The wind is a funny thing,

    isn't it Blossom?

what might be a swift and refreshing breeze at the peak of Devildays, would easily quicken the step home during a particularly desolate Frsotbite.

It is just as well that a raging Maelstrom tearing up trees in the sodden forest could produce a tailwind and underbreeze needed for a fluttering seed to finish its journey to a verdant field on the other edge of Hæth.

I guess such is the will of the many sky gods that blow across the land, tempting us both with comfort and concern. They seem to roam free about the land, untethered to any place, without a care for what they leave behind be it good or bad.

I wish that I could have a journey like that. I want to just set out without a care, without a destination, and no one to tell me what to do.

Would you travel with me Blossom, If I do get the courage to leave home? we could stay up late overnight looking at the stars and making up stories about the wind.

    but..

that may never come. My dads always say how important it is that we all pitch in around halfwall to ensure the community can make it through another year.

    but I can hope

I want to see you soon, please come visit.

    -your friend, May

  • Detest Brother,

I am sending you this letter, because at this point i’m sure the moths will be moving faster than I can.

My flight path got clipped due to an unexpected dance of lightning along the calantine cliffs. I was forced to change corse and take shelter in the canyon. do not worry though, I am safe, just a few rustler feathers here and there.

Luckily enough there was a moth tower at the edge of the ravine where I could write home. The many termite moth tenders here have done well to help this old sparrow to recuperate. My feathers are being swiftly tended to and should be in perfect flight condition in a few weeks.

I still intend to make it home to virtue before the first threads of snow blanket rest on the roofs of town. I do not want to get caught in another storm like we did all those years ago. In fact I will be bringing gifts for the candlefeast (and don’t worry i’ve included surprises for you and your husband among those for the grandkids). I am perfecting my craft as I rest, hoping to truly capture the sounds of the world.

although almost recuperated my extended stay at the tower is to study a most peculiar sound, I know not what it is yet, but I hope to capture the essence that meets me every sundown. From the top of the tower I look across the expanse of the Hæthland and swear that I can see the edge of the world. Right as the sun crosses the horizon, a rush of melodic whispers rest on my ears, a secret song just for me.

    with love and swift flight,

    Robin

  • Have you heard of the Ox that could rend stars?

as the tale goes an old Ox Philosopher was contemplating the existence above our Hæth. While looking at the stars Ze decided to count them and was surprised to find that the west sector contained more stars than the east. In a great show of might and sacrifice the Ox shattered Zyr right horn and added the extra star to the east as a new asterism, sotos horn that we see to this day.

Generally this is a story of balance, where the philosopher soto evened out the sky. However I once heard from an experienced teacher that the moral could have another meaning, that the Ox had struck too soon. If only Ze had held another moment the sky would turn to reveal new stars a now even sky.

Slate, I write this to you as a reminder. you are determined and strong, i’m sure you could rend the sky if you wish, but don’t forget about the moments of pause. The solution to finding the Heart wood may not be as easy as adding extra stars to the sky. sometimes solutions will show themselves in the ways we never expect.

    be safe my friend,

  • General Foroway,

Per your command I have journeyed to the list of outposts you have given me to collect any remaining troops and supplies.

Three Units are returning from Cobalt Canyon with a few rations and construction gear.

the outpost at Fentil crossing was left empty on approach but is still stocked with stable physical equipment, enough for a second platoon to come and collect.

for the last Outpost, as you suggested, I waited until the thawing of Tillsoil began before I made my way up the mountain. Whatever is out there is the Stallfrost fields must be one powerful entity though because even as the days got warmer the thick sheets of Ice on the paths remained.

What stood out even more was the state of the outpost overlooking the fields. Much like Fentil I found it abandoned although it was in a greater state of disarray. The fortifications had been taken by moss, and most of the armory was dug out for what looks like a Turnip garden. Strangely a soft heat remained as if someone had just lit a fire. All other signs of life seem to have been packed away when the post was abandoned, but I still could not shake the feeling of eyes watching me from the shadows. My recommendation would be to leave this place alone and let it return to nature, the stones are not valuable enough to risk any more Rooks to return.

I quickly made my way out of the Outpost and am on my way back to the kingdom now.

I await my orders upon return,

    Lead Fortress Rook Unit AB796

  • Dear Me,

Has it really been that long since I last wrote in this? I don't even remember what the previous page refers to... though that might be why I'm here.

Since I last spoke to me, I've lost myself. I know that, of course, but I'm not sure if I understand why. My fear of loss has only expanded to losing the very way I gain things.

Somehow, despite this, I've gained a new... friend? I suppose they're more than acquaintances, so the next step I can think of is friend, though that seems strong. For example, all I really understand for sure about them is their love of moths, which I am attempting to learn. Attempting to learn, however, is the very think I wish to remember how to do.

Our adventures are leading us towards "the book", perhaps on an island. At least, I hope we are. It may very well help us get to where I wish to go. Regaining what I have lost... is the only way I can feel home when I get home.

No promises on the next entry,

    Manish

  • Dearest Friend,

As the moons finish their dancing and the leaves turn to ash, I hope their warmth is bringing you comfort in these lengthening nights, my friend.

I am, as usual, wandering the Hæth; following the wind chimes as they guide me to new homes for the small Gods.

The Saplings have grown bigger and more mischievous since I wrote you last, the changes in the air have brought them a newfound energy.  Perhaps, they see the waving green flames and cannot help but dance.

The other small Gods are resting peacefully in their backpack pockets as I write to you. It has been a long journey, and I yearn to find them a suitable home. To give them their comfort back.

What I will do after the work is done, I am not sure.

Perhaps, I will finally be able to stop, watch how the seasons change the view from one singular spot. If that happens, I would love to welcome you to my home, in the same way you accepted me when my world burned.

Until then, there is much work to do and much to atone for.

    Forever in my thoughts,

    Thyme
