We're long overdue for an episode on the humanitarian crisis facing the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Clashes between armed groups, resource wars, a post-colonial legacy of foreign interference -- Jason Sterns, Assistant Professor of International Studies and founder of the Advisory Board of Congo Research Group, and Christoph Vogel, former UN Security Council expert on the DRC and author of Conflict Minerals Inc., join Bad Faith to provide some context to this crisis and explain why the DRC has been so overlooked.

Ali walks us through last week's report by UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General Pramila Patten, which claims to hold "convincing information" that Hamas raped Israeli hostages. But with no interviews with alleged victims, and no identifying information about alleged witnesses, does the report tell us anything new? And if the most conclusive findings of the report are to cast doubt several rape claims, why was it reported by the New York Times as uncovering new "evidence" -- at least before they walked back their headline? And if Patten admits she did not conduct an "investigation," what does it claim to prove? But first, Ali gives an update on what's been happening this last week in Gaza, including an update on the horrific flour massacre.

Staff writer at Arizona Luminaria & author of The Case for Open Borders John Washington joins Bad Faith to make -- what else? -- the case for open borders. It seems the left and liberals alike have been largely silent on what they affirmatively believe should be done to address the immigration backlog at the border. We are able to say what we don't like about Biden's or the Republicans' policy. But what should actually be done instead? We are often accused of wanting open borders. What if we owned it? Is it possible to both prioritize the interests of American workers and have a humane border policy? Are we falling into the trap of believing a tradeoff is necessary?

Writers Jason England and Bertrand Cooper join director/actor/writer Mtume Gant to discuss. Do meaningful departures from the book indicate a disinterest in working class politics that cut to the heart of what Everett was trying to say in his novel? Or are they good cuts in service of the economy of film? Is the basis of satire in the 20-year-old book -- the interest of white audiences in Black "struggle" literature -- still current now that more middle class Black authors have access to publishing houses? Did the movie miss an opportunity to pick a new target -- say, the BLM protest to hype-house grift? Or does it capture a still-relevant critique of Black elites and the stories that make them rich?

2024 Presidential candidate Dr. Cornel West returns to Bad Faith to discuss the recent controversy surrounding his tweet offering prayers for the family of recently deceased Russian political prisoner Alexei Navalny, the perverse incentives built into left media, and why he's lost the "deep respect" he once held for Dr. Jill Stein. Are these petty grievances, or something more? Dr. West also offers an update on the status of his campaign, including important ballot access issues.

Author of The Chronic Crisis of American Democracy: The Way Is Shut Benjamin Studebaker joins Bad Faith to explain why he thinks the solutions offered by the U.S. pundit class are selling little more than false hope and podcast subscriptions (with exceptions). What about our system makes the Democracy crisis "chronic," why should we not be concerned about threats to democracy from Donald Trump, and what's the solution not being offered by the fallen elites that comprise the media class?

Presidential candidate Dean Phillips (D-MN) joins Briahna on Bad Faith as the Biden campaign suffers one of its biggest blows: the release of the Hur special counsel report which exonerated the President from wrongdoing in the document case while indicting him as too senile to have acted with intention. Is this an opening for Phillips? Is he a younger version of Biden, or is he a progressive as he claims? Why support Medicare for All only now, and is there room between Phillips and Biden on Palestine? Briahna asks all this and more in an extended interview you won't want to miss.Subscribe to Bad Faith on YouTube for video of this episode. Host of Words to Win By, and Principal of ASO Communications, and political messenger extraordinaire Anat Shenker-Osorio joins Bad Faith to explain most why certain messages falter where others deliver. After conducting 3-4 focus groups a week for the last four years, she has real insights into what messaging works and what doesn't -- from "defund the police" to "MAGA Republicans." Do Dems have any chance messaging around Biden’s age? And are there limits to what messaging can do when voters are driven by ideological disgust of political actions like the siege of Gaza?Subscribe to Bad Faith on YouTube for video of this episode. Of what significance is UAW's support of a ceasefire in Gaza in light of this endorsement, and how should a left that is invested in the power of unions to influence politics in a progressive direction be feeling about an endorsement that seems to come without any foreign policy concessions from the Biden administration? Also, Brie and Bill discuss writing political fiction, and the prospect of a Civil-War-style standoff at the Texas border.

Robinson returns to Bad Faith to weigh in on the state of the 2024 race, how he predicted John Fetterman's fall, & what he thinks will happen in November. Brie and Nathan spar on the issue of political litmus tests and whether Brie should take the W on Gaza becoming a redline for voters rather than interrogating why it was that withholding votes from Biden was a much more radical proposition back in 2016 or 2020. Last election Bad Faith famously debated Noam Chomsky on the subject of whether the threat of Trump compelled leftists to vote blue no matter who in 2020. Would he change his mind in 2024 in light of the genocide in Gaza?
