  • In this episode I review George Mumford's book the Mindful Athlete. After experiencing a variety of hardships through the early part of his life Mumford found mindfulness and eventually became a mindfulness expert earning his Masters degree in the field. Mumford went on to help thousands of inmates as well as practice in his preferred clients professional athletes including the Chicago Bulls under Phil Jackson and the Michael Jordan era.

    Over time Mumford developed the concept of the five superpowers:
    - mindfulness
    -concentration
    -insight
    -right effort
    -trust

    These superpowers are interconnected and work together

    If your mind is filled with distracting emotions you lose your flow. You’re no longer in the present moment. If you’re thinking about that comment or argument from yesterday, you’ve lost the current moment.

  • In this episode I discuss the general layout and a few of the main ideas found in the book Breath written by James Nestor. While I can't say for sure if everything in the book is scientifically accurate or not. I do know there is only one way we die and that is from insufficient oxygenation of the brain. If proper oxygenation of the brain and body are that important, it does seem true that the way we breathe, our posture, and facial structures effecting our ability to breathe properly through the nose are also extremely important and impactful to our overall health and wellbeing.

  • In this episode I do a brief review of the Book Wild At Hear, Discovering the Secrets of A Man's Soul written by John Eldredge. The book is written somewhat like a Romance drama depicting men as dangerous, wild, and deeply romantic but in today's world are tamed and made to be nice guys. I appreciated some the ideas Eldredge was attempting to get across but was not a fan of the style of writing. I'll usually give up on a book immediately or power through for the sake of doing an honest review, in this case I made it about half way through and and threw in the towel.
