    WEEK 12: SUMMARY

    =================

    Lesson Summary:

    55 years after his family left Jerusalem, Nephi wrote his final guidance to his people. His words are plain and precious and riveted on the Doctrine of Christ. His rich teachings about the Holy Ghost and encouragement to “press forward” offer bright bursts of light to those seeking to stay on the covenant path.

    On the creative side of week 12, we’ll kick things off with a 5-hole mini golf course to help us understand the covenant path. Next, we’ll play a simple, speedy starburst stacking game to sharpen our Doctrine of Christ skills. Finally, we’ll roll balls down a measuring tape to better understand how we can improve our ability to receive personal revelation.

    2 Nephi 31:20 | Where did you see the “bright hope” Elder Maxwell articulated demonstrated in Nephi’s life?

    2 Nephi 32:3 | We often think of feasting as a metaphor for how we consume. Are there other ways “feasting” applies to the Words of Christ?

    2 Nephi 33:6 | We often speak about being His children, His brother and sisters, His covenant people. How is He also ours?

    2 Nephi 33:15 | Earlier in his life Nephi said things like I will go and do the things the Lord hath commanded. Now, he says “he must obey.” Why? Is this a more mature form of obedience? Does it mirror the Savior’s obedience somehow?

Finally, he’ll end with powerful testimony about the unique, redemptive power of Jesus Christ.

    Lesson Summary:

    This week, Nephi will guide our hearts toward reconciliation with God through the words of Isaiah. We’ll study Isaiah’s prophecies about the scattering and gathering of Israel and apply those messages to our own modern-day discipleship. We’ll try to unravel the meaning behind some of Isaiah’s most powerful passages by focusing on what his prophetic words can teach us about our Savior, Jesus Christ.

    First, we’ll play a speed game to help our kids get familiar with the words and symbols of Isaiah. Next, we’ll defy gravity with an uphill water flow experiment to teach about choosing the harder right rather than the easier wrong. Finally, we’ll use printable fishing lures to break down the truth-distorting techniques of the adversary.

    Week 9 Questions

    2 Nephi 11:8 | How do you think understanding Isaiah’s time, history, geography, and prophecies helps with the Gathering?

    2 Nephi 12:3 & 5 |Where do you see the prophet and apostles doing this today

    2 Nephi 13:12 | What do you think the phrase “destroy the way of thy paths”

    2 Nephi 15:25-30 | What other symbols can mean both good and bad things? Why does the Lord teach with contrasts?

    2 Nephi 19:6 | We usually attribute counselor to the Holy Ghost. Why does this title fit the Savior so well?

Could he, like Elijah, have hoped a famine would help his family remember God? If so, what else can you learn from the story?1 Nephi 17:23-29 | Lehi repents of his murmuring and then the family sees new writing on the Liahona. Nephi speaks about the Lord using “small means” to accomplish “great things”. What do you think he’s referring to?1 Nephi 19:12 | One of my favorite titles for Jesus Christ is “The God of Nature”. What does that title teach us? How is it more vivid in these chapters about animals, storms, timbers, and tides?1 Nephi 22:17 | Isaiah’s writings promise the the righteous need not fear the last days. 1 John 4:18 teaches that perfect love casteth out fear. • 5: BOM [1 NEPHI 16-22] INSIGHTS NOTES

    “I Will Prepare the Way before You”

    January 29 – February 4

    Insights Lesson Summary:

    This week we’ll see the second half of the journey to the Promised Land. We’ll follow Lehi & Ishmael’s families as they wind their way through the wilderness towards Bountiful. We’ll see how they struggle with a broken bow, a boat building project, and the struggles that come when a family is divided. The last few chapters are Nephi’s witness of the Savior and his reminder to study the words of previous prophets like Isaiah, Zenos, and Lehi.

    Questions to Consider from Week 5

    1 Nephi 16:12 | Laman and Lemuel seem to keep one foot planted in Jerusalem while they wander in the wilderness. What pain do they experience by neglecting to live up to the light they’ve been given.1 Nephi 17:18 | Is it possible that Nephi broke his bow on purpose? Do you see a connection between these verses? How will perfect love play a role in the last days?

    “Armed with Righteousness and the Power of God”

    January 22 – January 28

    Lesson Summary:

    This week we’ll approach Lehi’s vision from a new vantage point as we study the visionary experience of Nephi. We’ll learn about the love of God and the many, many tools He has put in place to bring us all to the tree. Nephi’s vision will help us see the Lord’s plan to care for Lehi’s descendants - those who choose to follow Him and those who turn away. We’ll also study Nephi’s response to this vision and his powerful example of service through struggle.

    Questions to Consider:

    1 Nephi 11:25 | Why do you think there are two representations of his love (tree & river)?1 Nephi 11:35 | Do you see the Great & Spacious building of our day straining to accept all the philosophies of men?1 Nephi 12:4-11 | Why is showing His wounds the first thing the Savior does when He visits the Nephites?1 Nephi 13:10-20 | Why does God still bless Columbus, the Founding Fathers, the Colonists etc, with power if they are imperfect? 1 Nephi 15:15-16 | What types and shadows of the Atonement of Jesus Christ do you see in the tree grafting symbol?

    “Come and Partake of the Fruit”

    January 15 – January 21, 2024

    WEEK 03: SUMMARY

    =================

    This week we’ll follow Lehi’s sons back into Jerusalem and then back into the wilderness with Ishmael’s Family. Nephi will struggle to lead his rebellious brothers and experience personal deliverance through heartfelt prayer. The bulk of our study will be focused on Lehi’s sweeping vision of the tree of life. The symbols woven into the vision will help us understand how to navigate our complex mortal experience with hope, understanding, and grace.

    We’ll reinforce those teachings in the creative object lessons as well. First, we’ll break down the structure of the iron rod with a simple aluminum foil braid. Next, we’ll talk about what it means to “keep” something for God by playing an epic game of potato jousting. Finally, we’ll talk about the beauty of unfolding revelation by creating a handful of fire.
