Here we go! Season 8 is kicking off with a bang as we hitch up the van and travel to the spectacular Flinders Ranges in the South Australian Outback.
Our first stop is the beautiful Clare Valley, where we set up camp off grid at the Auburn Community Caravan Park and enjoy a night with friends at Ulster Park Winery. Then, we're off to explore Edeowie Station in the Flinders Ranges, a working sheep and cattle farm that stretches over 250 square kilometres! We’ve found our happy place! This week we set up camp on the stunning Yorke Peninsula, a South Aussie local secret, at the spectacular Wauraltee Beach. One of 19 beach and bush camps on the Yorke, Wauraltee Beach is located on the western side of the peninsula and allows absolute beach front camping for self-sufficient campers.

We set off from Cooktown and travel to Archer River Roadhouse, getting our first taste of the dirt roads, dust and corrugations, and meet up with our mate Tony who runs tag-along tours to the Cape. For the next 15 days we’ll be hanging out with Tony and his tour group as we ‘tag-along’ to the tip and take in all the highlights including Iron Range National Park, Weipa, Bramwell Station, the Old Telegraph Track, Gunshot, Palm Creek, the Jardine River Crossing, Seisia, Thursday Island, and of course the Tip of Australia!

We say goodbye to Karumba and travel 450km to Cobbold Gorge in the heart of the Savannah Gulf region. A private property opened to the public to experience the ancient landscape and spectacular beauty of this outback location, Cobbold Gorge offers guided tours and various styles of accommodation including powered and unpowered camping. The Gorge Tour is world class and showcases the incredible landscape and unique Aussie wildlife that call this environment home including freshwater crocodiles, and includes the newly installed glass bottom bridge, not for the faint hearted!
Then we travel 230km further east and set up camp at Undara Experience, now owned and operated by Discovery Parks. We pack in the adventure with 2 tours of the incredible and ancient lava tubes, the Archway Explorer and Wildlife at Sunset. This is such a fascinating environment, with access to the Undara Volcanic National Park only available to those staying onsite or booked on one of their many tours.

Our first stop is to Cloncurry, to fill our water tanks and pick up supplies, before we overnight at the historic (and recently reopened) Quamby Hotel. This fantastic little pub in one of the most remote places in the country allows camping out back, and serves up great meals, cold drinks and plenty of smiles.
Then, we push on to Karumba, driving through Normanton and taking in the sights of the famous Purple Pub, and Krys the 8 metre crocodile! We set up camp at the Karumba Sunset Point Caravan Park and experience everything this town has to offer including the Les Wilson Barramundi Centre and the Sunset Tavern. Plus, Paul has a brilliant day aboard Kerry D’s Fishing Charter and catches more fish in one day than he has his entire life! We give the new air fryer a run and cook up freshly caught fish and chips… delicious!
