I talk with addiction expert Mari Paulus about how to deal with feelings of loneliness and how to respond to relapses.
This podcast is very blunt and may not be enjoyable to listen, but that is probably a good thing.
The truth is not always comfortable, but embrace the lessons shared by Mari.
She has worked in addiction since 1990 and having helped so many clients permanently quit addiction, including myself, I whole-heartedly trust the Beyond Compulsion method and would love for this to work for you as well.
If want more support then head over to www.thomasmolyneux.com where you can get our free training.
Addiction is very misunderstood and Mari shared with me before we recorded today how at the Oscars they were making jokes about porn addiction.
To be fair, I don't have a problem with making jokes about sensitive subjects, but it is true that addiction is massively underestimated.
It really is very harmful and hopefully this podcast will take you one step closer towards permanent freedom. -

Hello, I really enjoyed recording this episode with Ariel Sabillon where we discussed both of our personal journey's of quitting porn, what has worked and what has not worked.
We explored the spectrum of self-discipline to self-compassion and how by being disciplined, we are really loving ourselves.
Ariel was a fantastic guest and you can find him on Instagram @arielascensionwrites

In this episode, I talk with Jackson who was addicted to porn and drugs and has been clean for over two months and thriving.
Jackson's life has been getting better and better and he has some serious photography talent. This episode shows how you really can massively transform your life if you are willing to do the work.
Porn can massively harm one's mental health and it's only when you look back on it that you can realise how harming it truly was.
I'd love to help more guys permanently quit this year. Feel free to get in touch with me to learn how.

It's been an interesting 6 or 7 months trying to quit porn. When I hit a really long streak last year, I honestly thought I'd become free for good.
But, it was not to be.
I relapsed and fell back into a spiral of relapse after relapse.
And then I met Mari and have sort of felt like she's saved me ever since.
It's been an absolute revelation for me to actually go and get some proper support from someone qualified in helping people through addiction.
And I think that was the first place for me to begin, acceptance of my addicted neural pathways.
It is not easy for the ego, but to quit this, one has to be brutally honest with themselves.
So, in this episode, I share my failing in business, my failures in trying to quit porn, and how things are definitely back on the up again now!

In this solo episode, I share some of my top insights from receiving training from Mari Paulus.
I talk about how accepting that your brain is going to crave porn can be helpful, how knowing you will have urges is useful, and how having a specific method for dealing with urges is key to rewiring your brain.

This was a painful episode to record. I care a lot about Mari as from having many conversations with her I understand deeply how she has a very kind heart. And so it was hard to hear how much she had been through.
But, afterwards I did also think to myself how important it is to acknowledge that life is full of ups and downs. We all go through bad stuff, just some of us go through much worse than others.
And on this podcast, we have one mission - to help people quit porn addiction.
That involves facing a range of emotions, hard truths and getting stuck into facing our own minds.
I am grateful Mari shared this with us today and I hope it helps someone get one step closer towards permanent freedom from porn. The alternative could be bleak.
We have some free training over at www.thomasmolyneux.com go and check it out!

Here it is. The answer I had been looking for. Even if this podcast had 0 listens and I'd spent hundreds of hours recording episodes, it all would have been worth it just to have met Mari.
Honestly, I feel incredibly grateful that Mari one day stumbled upon my podcast and enquired about being a guest. She has genuinely changed my life for good. I've listened to hundreds of people talk about the best approach towards quitting porn.
But, no one has helped me as much as Mari. She gets to the point. She's helped me understand that this is a compulsive behaviour and it's not going away through meditation or any other thing that improves my life. Yes, I will continue to meditate for one hour each day as this enhances my life massively, but that is not the long-term solution to quitting porn.
The solution to quitting porn is challenging, but worth it. It involves:
Continuously identifying junkie thinking of any kind Having a specific script to use when urges occurI am excited to bring Mari's 30+ years of experience to you.
If you like this podcast, then you can also get our FREE training that we have recorded together where we discuss similar themes covered in this podcast. https://www.thomasmolyneux.com/
Any reviews would be hugely welcome as I'd love to grow the podcast in 2024 and doing so requires your help. Any questions, feel free to drop me an email at [email protected]

Courtney Boyer, M.Ed., M.S., is a relationship and sexuality expert. She was trained as a mental health and sex therapist, life coach, and Reiki Practitioner.
I was keen to talk to Courtney about how porn can impact sexual relationships, my own experience of erectile dysfunction and hookup culture.
I found the conversation really valuable as I haven't spoken about these kind of things with many women before.
Courtney was a brilliant guest, being 100% honest and transparent throughout and providing us with a glimpse into what goes on in a woman's mind when it comes to sex.
*Trigger Warning* in the last 10 minutes of the podcast we do discuss some things which on listening back I realised could trigger listeners. If you are triggered, see this as an opportunity to rewire your brain by willingly accepting the discomfort the craving causes. By accepting this discomfort and not acting on it - you literally rewire your brain.

It's time to quit, for good.
Stay focused on your goals, and the pursuit of what you do want in life.
If an urge comes up, which it will - view it as an opportunity to rewire the brain. Process the urge. Face the discomfort. Do not resist, do not overthink it. Just the urge be. Be aware of it, and then shift your focus back towards what are working on in life.
Pursuing the life you truly wish is not about working all of the time though. Meditation, rest, relaxation are part of pursuing a great life. They give you the space for your brain to think more creatively. But, what will not help you achieve your goals is having bursts of dopamine in unhealthy ways. Things like social media, gaming and eating junk food isn't going to help you in any way. That is not the rest your mind needs. You do not need porn either.
So focus your time in 2024 on great things, building the life you really want to have and remember - all of your urges are just temporary sensations!

I really need this chat. I fell back into looking at sexual content. And my brain was experiencing intense urges. I'd meditated for a whole hour. I'd been focusing on my goals. And yet, I was finding myself getting triggered very easily.
This is what the life of someone overcoming porn can be like. No matter how much you focus elsewhere, or how aware of your thoughts and feeling you are - it can be really challenging to deal with the intense urges which inevitable come.
This is because neural pathways create hard to ignore cravings. It makes total sense from a neuroscientific perspective. I had lost sight of this, but fortunately Mari reminded me of this.
I now feel more humble and accepting of the challenge in front of me. Since my chat with Mari, I've been dealing with a few intense urges really well. They've been extremely uncomfortable, but that is okay. I picture the addictive neural pathways weakening with every moment that I let them pass by.
I've found this really effective just a few days in.
Anyway, I really do hope this podcast is of value to you. Also, head over to www.thomasmolyneux.com and get your free 7-step practical guide for quitting porn. I will send it over by email.
Also you can find Mari at https://beyondcompulsion.com/https://beyondcompulsion.com/
All the best on your journey.
Cheers,
Tom

Wow. This was like no other podcast I've ever recorded. I invited my good friend, Theo, onto the podcast to talk about all things mental health.
We discussed the amygdala's impact on addiction due to it triggering fight, flight, freeze or fawn. We talked about habits, a range of emotions and the power of therapy.
Theo is a trainee therapist who will be a fully qualified therapist in a year. I've been friends with Theo for over 20 years and I was keen to talk with him about mental health.
I really enjoyed recording this podcast and hope that you do too!
Let me know your thoughts too, you can email me at [email protected]
