Actually living a recovery program doesnât usually happen overnight. In this episode, Teresa shares her introduction to recovery, her many tools of growth, and her daily practice.
Would you or someone you know like to be interviewed on the Loving Parent Podcast? Have you discovered ways of reparenting and trauma recovery that youâd like to share with others? In cultures around the world, children need to be parented with gentleness, humor, love, and respect. Although Teresa grew up in a family with its roots in northern India, her thoughts and feelings are not much different from those of other Adult Children.
Please excuse the audio quality on my end of this interview. I had internet problems, but if youâve listened before, you know the questions, and can get the gist from Teresaâs articulate answers.

Welcome to Part 2 of my interview with Scotty, in which we discuss important tools of recovery and reparenting our trauma.
Here are a few terms you might want to have defined more explicitly than we did in the interview:
Limbic Impairment- The limbic system is the part of the brain containing the organs which interpret the input our brains receive. It is believed this is where emotions are generated based on those interpretations. For a more complete description, go to
Annie Hopper explains limbic system impairment disorders | Limbic Retraining
Dorsal Collapse-Refers to a shut-down of the complete nervous system, either partially or fully. It is triggered by the dorsal (or back) branch of the vagus nerve, and is commonly called a âfreezeâ stress response, associated with trauma and/or shame. For more into go to:
Anatomy of a Freeze â Or Dorsal Vagal Shutdown â Center for Healing Shame
Neuron or Neural Pathway- Connections between many nerves forming a chain or path through which information travels. They may occur between parts of the brain or between other parts of the body and the brain. They are generally formed by repeated similar stimulation. For more info see:
Neural Pathways | What Are They?, How, Types, Dysfunction

I think youâre in for a treat. The next two episodes feature a reparenting sojourner whoâs been on the path since he was 17. Scotty is making sense of his recovery work through a study of neuroscience. You may want to take notes on some terms to look up later. I hope youâll learn as much as I have.

Building on the previous episode about self-esteem, I get a bat and glove to help me send negative messages flying, and catch positive messages and keep them. I donât accept negative messages, and I breathe in and believe the positive ones.
i have some exciting news to share: the Loving Parent Podcast website is up and running. Soon youâll be able to order books there, leave comments, and volunteer to be interviewed.
Go to www.LovingParentPodcast.com
And in the meantime, if youâd like to share what youâve learned about reparenting trauma in an interview, send me an email at
[email protected] I look forward to hearing from youđ

Sandee shares the second part of her Reparenting journey, and tells about how she is accepting and loving herself.
-
Sandee has had a wealth of experiences different from my own, and I learned a lot through her story. I hope you will, too.

Listen as Mark concludes his recovery and reparenting journey up to this point in his life. It is a story of healing and hope, of self-love and acceptance.
-
Weâre back after a short holiday break! Mark has an interesting story to share. I think his path to Adult Child recovery will seem very familiar to some listeners. Iâm reminded not to compare my story with anyone elseâs.
please remember, if you feel triggered by this or any other episode, please get support. None of us truly recovers alone.
-
Happy Holidays! Hereâs another raw episode recorded. without the benefit of editing. There should be another interview next week.
In recording this episode about Self-Esteem, I talk quite a bit about positive affirmations. There are many books about affirmations you can read, including mine and Self-Esteem, A Family Affair by Jeanne Illsley Clark. Both have affirmations geared to the developmental stages of childhood. I suggest you pick a few you like and memorize them.
i thought Iâd give you some here you to get started:
Iâm glad youâre here.
you belong here.
I like to watch you change and grow.
you can think about how you feel, and feel about what you think.
you can take your time.
itâs ok to make mistakes.
i like the person youâre becoming.

In Part 2 of her interview, Christy shares with us the tools sheâs found which contribute to her continued recovery and growth.
Christy mentions a book I wrote 30 years ago. Itâs now back to its original title, âSecret Families-Problem Families.â I have a couple of cases, and am trying to figure out how best to get everyone who wants one a copy. Iâll get this solved as soon as the website, LovingParentPodcast.com, is finished.
-
Meet Christy, a woman with long term addiction recovery, who has recently dived into adult child recovery. In this episode, weâll hear about her family of origin, as well as the stories of some of the traumas in her life.
please note: This is an internet recording, so there are some artifacts in the audio. And please be aware that parts of Christyâs story may stir up buried memories. If so, please get some support, either peer to peer, or professional.

In this, the final part of our live talk, we answer participantsâs questions. The names of 12-Step programs have been cut out, since I donât represent any of them.
the book I wrote many years ago, âItâs Never Too Late to be A Happy Childâ is mentioned in this episode. I still have a few cases, and Iâm working on a system to get copies to those who want them free of charge. Check back for more info.

The continuation of our live talk, begun in Episode 4âŠRelationships in Recovery đ
-
This episode is published raw and unedited. I hope the stumbles and pauses are not too distracting. Due to technical issues, posting Richard and Brita Part 2 is delayed.
Families. Healthy or unhealthy? Functional or dysfunctional? Secret or Problem? In this episode, Iâll explain the way I look at families and how the people in them can change and grow.
-
I promise, this podcast is not the Richard and Brita Show. But Iâve been sick and have had laryngitis. That kept me from doing my scheduled interviews. So this episode and the next are a talk Richard and I did at a speakerâs meeting in November of 2018. It was recorded live, so there may be some distortion. Our editor tried to take out as many references to specific programs and people as possible without being jarring. We hope you enjoy it! Weâll be back to interviewing some really interesting reparenters in the coming weeks.
-
We continue with Richardâs story of his life after recovery. Please note: sound quality may not be optimal on some devices.
-
In my interview with Richard, he recounts his major childhood traumas and how he began his recovery.
-
In Episode 1, you will hear a recap of my reparenting journey. I discuss a bit of what my childhood was like, as well as what got me into recovery as an adult child, how I reparented the children in my care, and how I spot and recover from relapses.

A hint of whatâs to come!
