Chad Heckler and I discuss our recent experiences shooting the Koenig-Ruger Precision Rifle Challenge in Cameo, CO. We talk about what made the match difficult for each of us individually and discuss possible solutions. We talk mental mistakes, organization, mindset and more. For those of you who don't know, Chad is the co-host of the Miles to Matches podcast and a great human. If you haven't had a chance to listen in on their podcast you are missing out.

Brady and I talk about our struggles on day one and what we think makes these matches hard. NRL Hunter matches offer a completely different set of challenges that are super fun to handle when you are used to shooting standard PRS matches, but they can be discouraging if you not familiar with their format. We chat about that and how things went.

I get a bunch of questions on how to handle a lot of wind and I think target card is a step in the right direction.

This is a follow up to the last episode with Brady Allinson. I have Brian on to talk about some recent matches and our practice sessions that have shed some light on the psychology of making a good shot and separating the shot process from the mechanics of a stage.

Brady and I talk about what I consider to be one of the hardest fundamentals to put into practice. It is a discussion that I feel has not been given enough face time in the precision rifle community and one that I hope to draw some attention to. In this episode we dive into what makes it difficult, why I think it can never be mastered and is therefore inherently perishable, and we discuss some of the ways that we have tried to improve our implementation of this fundamental.

Ben Gossett has been one of the best shooters in the PRS for the last several years and in December he won the 2022 AG Cup in phenomenal fashion. When the largest purse in our sport, $30,000 dollars, was on the line he not only won, but he didn't miss a shot the entire day. It was a pretty epic feat that will live on in infamy for many years as one of the most clutch moments in our sport.

BJ DeGroot, the owner of Strike Without Warning, and I discuss his recent move to the states. We talk about what he has seen in the similarities and differences in the precision rifle sport in the US vs Australia. We also resurrect the give away that was supposed to take place last fall and are going to try and make good on our promise to get a brake into the hands of a listener.

On this episode I talk with Brian Neace and Seth Howard, the match directors of the Snake River Standoff PRS Match that is set to take place March 4th and 5th. They each have a unique perspective to stage design that together has generated some of the best courses of fire I have ever shot. We take some time to dive into their approach to designing a stage and engineering a well rounded match. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/mythologyofmarksmanship/support

On this episode I talk with Tate Streater, owner of Impact Precision and cofounder of JTAC Precision. He is one of the best shooters and PRS shooting instructors in the world. We take some time to unpack how he goes about shooting a troop line and the skills it takes to be successful at it. We talk about brackets, making corrections, reading plates, etc... You may need a notepad for this episode, I know I did. I hope you enjoy the sneak peak into one of the greatest minds our sport has to offer.

Brady and I discuss various topics and hit a couple good topics that I think y'all will be interested in. Zero issues and shifts will drive a guy crazy if you don't know what things can and do effect it. I see a lot of guys changing their zero when their gun may actually be zeroed, but other things are making it appear to be off. We talk about things that we watch for and when we will or won't change our zero. We also discuss the price tag of high-end setups and if they are worth it. We answer the question, "can you get something better for less money?"

Paul and I discuss our process for preparing for wind before a match and the differences in wind at different locations. Then we get into the science of accuracy and load development.

This episode I talk about a topic that has been on my mind for quite a while; unconscious competence and processing capacity. This is a pretty cerebral topic, but I feel like it is one that explains a lot of issues shooters have and sheds light on where we should focus our efforts in practice in order to improve.
Thanks for listening!
