  • We started this series to get Tyra's story out. To close the gap between what we know and what we don't know. Thanks to all of you, it's closing a little more all the time.

I can't thank everyone enough for listening and reaching out and helping us understand what was happening at that time. Without you, we wouldn't be this far.

For our last scheduled episode on Tyra, we'll give some updates on her case and share stories from friends and family about the Tyra they remember. The smiles, the laughs, and as many put it, the impact she had on all of them.

  • With few leads and many theories, it was only a matter of time before someone put it together that the 1980s were the glory days of the American serial killer. Technology hadn't yet become what it is today, and keeping track of the worst of the worst wasn't an easy task.

So, when Tyra's sister Theresa suggested that she believed what happened to Tyra was the work of a serial killer, that was an avenue worth exploring. In Episode 5: "They Knew What They Were Doing," I dive into who some of Tyra's family believed it could be and what other names popped up in my search for possible ties to Tyra.

  • There is an old saying, “If two people say it, it’s a rumor... If three say it, it’s a fact.” I know it’s just an adage, but… what if it only took one person to make everyone second guess what they thought they knew? What if these rumors were started because the very person at the center started them himself?

  • Overarching theories have casted shadows on Tyra’s case for nearly four decades. But the one that the police keep coming back to is the only one they will never be able to prove.

So what do you do in a situation like this? When the blame gets shifted back on the victim, where do you go from there?

    You go elsewhere.

This week we talk to an outside expert to get a little insight on the case from someone who has seen just about everything.

  • The night of Tyra’s disappearance has a lot of holes to fill and her brief stop at a party at the ‘Loops’ Motel just adds to the mystery.

No one can remember what time they saw her there, who she was with, or how long she stayed, but they all remember very distinctly seeing and talking to her.

It seems like such a small detail, but when the rumors start to fly about what happened there that night, it becomes one of the most controversial theories that would stymy the investigation for years to come.

  • Unless you grew up in Ventura, CA in the 70s and 80s you probably haven’t heard the name Tyra Maria Garcia.

    But you will.

In 1985, Tyra had everything to look forward to. She was starting a new job, she had lots of friends, she was seeing a new guy… All in all, she was on the come up.

But that all changed on Memorial Day. At around 11 pm, she told her sister and mother she was going to a friend's house late at night.

In spite of a gut feeling that told her older sister Tanya not to let her go, they watched as she rounded the corner of their small apartment complex and disappeared into the night.

That was the last time anyone saw Tyra alive.

Ten days later she was found wrapped in a blanket, tied with a chord, left in an orange grove over an hour away from her home.

There was ample evidence at the scene, many of her close friends and family pointing to a likely suspect, plenty of people who saw Tyra that night, and even eye witnesses at two different locations who saw her in the company of two older guys… and yet, here we are 37 years later - almost to the day - still wondering - what happened to Tyra Garcia?

    Someone knows something.

The key to Tyra’s case is out there and we’re hoping that one of you knows who has it. Or at least you know where the pressure needs to be pushed to get it.

  • Less than two weeks to the premiere of “No Activity” a new true crime podcast with purpose.

Similarly to “They Called her Georgia Lee” I’ll be working with families in the pursuit of justice for cold cases that have sat idle for far too long.

The show will feature exclusive audio interviews with law enforcement, experts, advocates and of course, above everything else, families and friends of the victims… because who better to tell you about them than the people who knew them best?

Our first six part series tells the story of Tyra Maria Garcia, a 15 year old girl from Ventura, CA. In 1985, Tyra had everything to look forward to. She was starting a new job, she had lots of friends, she was seeing a new guy… All in all, she was on the come up.

Then on the night of Memorial Day celebrations, she told her sister and mother she was going to a friend's house late at night. In spite of a gut feeling that told her older sister Tanya not to let her go, they watched as she rounded the corner of their small apartment complex and disappeared into the night.

    Someone knows something.

The key to Tyra’s case is out there and we’re hoping that one of you knows who has it. Or at least you know where the pressure needs to be pushed to get it.

You can find the premiere episode of No Activity on Thursday, August 11th wherever you listen to your favorite podcasts.

Oh, and if you know of any family or friend that wants to tell their story, please reach out to [email protected].
