  • Today's episode came to me in the middle of the night (yes literally!) and I had to share it with you. I want to talk about diet culture and some of the pressures that you can have from society around diets.

The number one thing I want you to take away from this episode is the need for self love! The love you have for yourself needs to be complete and total unconditional love. Even though the scale might not be the number you want or your favorite pair of pants don't fit like they use to, the most important thing to remember is to love yourself unconditionally.

In my coaching, I talk about health at every size with my clients. Because health is not just the number on the scale, it is also how you feel inside. Are you able to take your dog on a walk? Are you able to play with your kids or grandkids? Health is about so much more than the physical appearance.

When it comes to food, I don't cancel anything out. I believe in balance and lifiving life! However, I do have an acronym for "DIET" that I use every day - Do I Eat This? I ask myself how will it make me feel? This is something that has helped me in my personal journey!

  • Today I want to share with you a little into on women's health. I have some episodes coming up that are going to dive deeper into these topic. So I wanted to get us ready for that!

Recently, I watched the Barbie movie and it really triggered something in me that I wanted to share. There is a speech in the movie that highlights the expectations that we have as women.

These expectations may not be fair but they are what we face daily. And it is important to learn how to move past them as a woman.

I am also excited to share some stories that YOU all have shared with me about your personal health journeys!

  • Today's episode is so special to me and marks an important start to April which is also PMD Awareness Month! My guest today is Sandi MacDonald and she is the co-founder of IAPMD which is the International Association for Premenstrual Disorders.

She started experiencing different symptoms and behaviors early in her life, as early as high school. Through many years of struggling emotionally and physically, she was always asking what was happening to her. She saw doctors, therapists, and tried different medications, but nothing was a cure.

It was not until she became a mother that she finally started to find answers. Sandi discovered that she had PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder). PMDD is something that is not widely talked about but Sandi has decided to bring it to the surface!

    We are answering your questions:

What are the classic symptoms to look for in PMDD?Is there a link between PMDD and a hormone imbalance?Does PMDD mean that perimenopause and menopause will be more difficult to go through?Does alcohol increase symptoms?

If you want more information visit Sandi's website- it is a wonderful resource! https://iapmd.org/

  • Today we are talking about money! But probably not in the way you are thinking. We are talking all about financial literacy. I am sharing my life's story and how I became financially literate.

What is financial literacy? It is the ability to understand and use financial skills to make informed and effective decisions about money.

I grew up in a very frugal home. My parents and grandparents taught me so many life lessons around this. However, early in my marriage my husband and I started playing around with credit cards and quickly found ourselves in debt.

It was not until after the birth of our first child that we realized that this was not the best life choice. So, we stopped and started educating ourselves in our finances. We started reading book and watching shows to learn anything we could on how to be smart in our spending. And I am sharing it all with you today!

  • Today we are talking about one of my favorite things to do for my own physical and mental health... YOGA! It has taken me many years to embrace yoga but has truly transformed both my mind and body.

I took my first yoga class when I was only 18 years old. A friend and I decided to try hot yoga and we soon realized that it was not for the faint of heart. Needless to say we did not make it through the entire class. But this started my wellness journey.

I always looked at exercise as a way to keep my body looking a certain way. Through my 20-30s exercise was just something that I did, it was not a mind and body connection. I tried light weight training which led to high interval training. But ultimately I felt that disconnect between my mind and body.

Since then I have rediscovered yoga and it has been a fantastic way to stay present and healthy. One of my favorite online yoga resources is Yoga with Adriene. She has an amazing YouTube channel full of great yoga videos. Follow along with her below!

When you are an adult you get to decide what the next steps are! You can propel yourself onto the next thing. If you have a difficult past, reach out and get some help! Learn how to move past it and seize the day.

  • Today we are talking about Zero Sum Thinking and the troubles I see with this theory. The basis to this way of thinking is that is someone is doing better than you, they are winning and you are losing. That there can only be one winner in life.

I have a really hard time with this, I don't feel that there should be one winner and one loser in life. I believe that everyone can win in anyway that servers them in life. I encourage you to put your blinders on and worry about your own game of life!

  • I can't be the only one who struggles with stress and anxiety, right? There are many techniques that help to control some of it, but what happens when it builds up and leads to something bigger? Do you ever find yourself in the middle of a panic attack with no way to calm yourself?

Today we are chatting with the woman behind CalmiGo! Adi Wallach is an inventor, who through her own struggles created a drug-free way to deal with anxiety. Adi started experiencing panic attacks and tried different techniques to calm them; including yoga, therapy, relaxation techniques, and diet changes. While she benefited from all of them, she found that nothing helped her while she was having a panic attack.

Adi did not want to rely on medications and their side effects, so she set out to create a product that could help! Starting with research, she discovered what methods helped during a panic attack. She used these to create CalmiGo, which is available to adults and children 6 years and up. Parents are excited for a drug-free solution to help children with their stress and anxiety!

I want you to live out the life you’ve always dreamt about — the one that gets you excited to get up in the morning and puts a goofy grin on your face.

Because the laundry, chores, soccer practice, meal planning, and litter box scooping? That’s not WHO you are; that’s not your identity. Those are the things you HAVE TO do.

So let’s make a realistic plan to get them over & done with, quickly & efficiently so you can finally be the person you’ve always wanted to be, and do the things you actually WANT TO do.

I am here to support you.

I’ve got an exercise for you to do today while you listen to the current podcast episode.

In the newest Slow Living podcast episode I share how I just popped off the phone with a former coaching client before recording.

     She seemed floundery.

And I wanted to remind her how AWESOME she is and how she had SO MANY TOOLS in her arsenal — she just needed to go back, pick one, and start back up again.

As I explained to her — and then again in the podcast episode for all of you —

You can’t “action” your way out of a mindset or a consistency problem.

But many (many!!!!) times we want to. It’s easier to find a new SOMETHING then it is to stay consistent with the current path because our brains want something shiny and glittery.

Listen in as I share really good solid tips & trick you can do TODAY to start sticking to your master plan on an ongoing basis.

the only way to meet your personal & professional goals is to keep working, each and every day, one teeny tiny baby step at a time.

  • Slow Living Podcast with Host Stephanie O'Dea Episode 114 - Success Secrets Part 2

The second episode in a 3-episode series of Success Secrets based upon Brian Tracy's 21 Success Secrets of Self-Made Millionaires.

If you'd like a copy of all of the Success Secrets in a handy-dandy PDF, get them here.

These ‘success secrets’ have been percolating in my brain for the past 20 years or so —

I’ve read an awful lot of Self-Help and Personal Development books (hundreds!!) and always felt a bit bummed — they never felt like they were speaking *to me* — they were either for women who were really interested in all things homemaking and couponing and entertaining or they seemed geared towards business men.

and while I *do* have aspects of myself that likes things clean and tidy — I am not a Martha Stewart-type. I just don’t seem to care all that much! 😉

and while I *do* have my own business, I’m not all that business-y!

So I hope you enjoy this episode â€” and AS ALWAYS — if you have any questions or comments, shoot me an email or tag me @stephanieodea on Instagram or Facebook or record a voicemail question.
