  • We traced down the development of Haikus as a modern form of poetry and the arrival of Haikus to the Arab world. We went through the history and the characteristics of Japanese Haikus in comparison to how are they perceived by Arabic poets. There are two Haikus that are discussed here, Matsuo Basho’s “The Old Pond” and Khalid A’asi “How Slow is the Day,” in terms of their themes, setting, imagery and tone.
