  • Technology plays a huge role in our everyday lives, including how we choose, and enroll into, Catholic schools. Co-hosts Marianela Nunez and Michael Bress brought in colleagues Robin Parrish and Jeff Stoddard from the education technology company FACTS (https://factsmgt.com) to discuss the impact that technology has had on schools and for inquiring parents.

Filled with excellent tips, tricks and best practices, the group talked about the latest trends in enrollment, how to construct the best websites for new families, and how to educate your families (new or long-time) on topics like re-enrollment and tuition assistance. The group shared the best ways for families to prepare for the enrollment process, including how to gather all of the necessary documents for a success application.

  • Your hosts Jen Mauro and Mike Walsh had a busy week, so busy they couldn’t land a guest. However, they didn’t want you to miss out on all the happenings so they decided to do a recap show that included some information on Catholic Press Month, how Catholic Schools Week went, the upcoming Valentine’s Day/Ash Wednesday convergence, the proper way to build a PB&J sandwich, the mystery of saintly relics, and how our humble Catholic Star Herald newspaper has been providing global Catholic news to a small convent in Ireland.

We also tagged this episode with a repeat of the latest Talking Saints podcast, because let’s face it, Laurie and Pete make everything better :)

  • "Have faith and keep up your courage."

As Talking Saints kicks off a new year, Laurie and Pete unpack the life of Saint Angela Merici, a 16th century virgin and foundress.  This devout young woman, called by God to establish the Company of St. Ursula, devoted her life to the education of young women and the care of the poor.  On her feast day, may we follow her example in caring for those God has placed in our lives.

Saint Angela Merici, pray for us!

  • The role of the Director of Catholic Identity is a very special one at the high schools in the Diocese of Camden. The priests that hold these positions are not only spiritual directors for the student body, but are often seen as advisor, counselors or someone to talk to when a student is having a rough day.

On this episode of Talking Catholic, host Marianela Nunez and co-host Michael Bress speak with two Directors of Catholic Identity, Fr. Stephen Robbins from Camden Catholic High School and Fr. Peter Gallagher from Gloucester Catholic High School about the roles they play at the respective schools, the challenges they face and even some of the more interesting questions they get on a daily basis. Throughout this enlightening conversation, the hosts also learn more about each guest’s vocation story, how they were appointed to their role and what they define as success as a Director of Catholic Identity.

  • “I am ready to die for my Lord, that in my blood the Church may obtain liberty and peace.”

Saint Thomas Becket, 12th century Chancellor of England and Archbishop of Canterbury, held much power in life, but after his martyrdom in his own Cathedral, he ascended to even greater glory.  In this month’s Talking Saints, hosts Laurie and Pete trade stories of his life and friendship, and later conflict, with King Henry II, and his staunch faith that challenges us to ask ourselves: who will we serve, God, or the things of this Earth?

  • For our last podcast of 2023, we welcome in beloved and award-winning Talking Saints podcast co-host Laurie Power to discuss Advent and her newest vocation, consecrated virgin. She has now entered into a new status within the church by becoming consecrated into one of the oldest orders of the Catholic faith, which took place on November 21 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception where Bishop Dennis Sullivan celebrated the Rite of Consecration to a Life of Virginity for a Woman Living in the World. Laurie chats with Jen Mauro and Mike Walsh abut her discernment path, how this vocation differs from that of a woman religious, and what it is expected of her.

You can read more about her journey in the Catholic Star Herald: https://catholicstarherald.org/atco-parishioner-undertakes-new-life-as-consecrated-virgin.
