  • It's Mind Change Monday, and Leanne Ellington is going to help us jump into Action April!

Leeanne Ellington has an incredible story of chasing healing through silence, and finding God in the process.

In her own words, she describes her faith journey:

Picture this: a skeptical, bacon-loving, Hebrew-speaking Jew, embarking on a quest to explore faith after a transformative 100-pound weight loss and a series of "quarter-life crisis".

It began with a whisper in my heart: "I think I might want God?!"

But not wanting to go back to the old days of temple and rabbi sermons, I found a non-denominational church in vibrant Nashville, TN that turned into a miraculous journey that filled a void in my spiritual landscape and met ME in my skepticism, doubt, and curiosity in all aspects of life.

All of a sudden this "God guy" that everyone ELSE was talking about that I had never met, and frankly never cared to meetā€¦

...suddenly appeared to ME --and revealed, completed, and healed parts of my story I didn't even know needed attention.

Leanne has two incredible podcasts, What's God Got to Do With It? and Outweigh. She is an online coach and guide into applying neuroscience and faith to healing from body image and self-esteem issues, and we had an incredible talk.

You're going to love this one!

  • It's Mind Change Monday!

Today, a look at the restated fifth commandment of Self-Brain Surgery: I must love tomorrow more than I hate what I'm feeling right now/I must not treat a bad feeling with a bad operation.

    Scripture: Matthew 6:34

Book Mentioned: This Naked Mind by Annie Grace

The Ten Commandments of Self-Brain Surgery
I must relentlessly refuse to participate in my own demise.

I must believe that feelings are not facts, they are chemical events in my brain.

I must believe that most of my thoughts are untrue.

I must believe that my brain is designed to heal (Rykerā€™s Regular Legs)

I must love tomorrow more than I hate how I feel right now. (No Tomorrow Tax! Corollary: I must not treat bad feelings with bad operations.)

I must stop making an operation out of everything.

I must not perpetuate generational thought or behavioral issues in my family or start any new ones.

I must love my brain and live in such a way as to protect and improve it.

I must believe that what Iā€™m doing Iā€™m getting better at.

I must understand that thoughts become things.

  • It's Mind Change Monday, and Here Are Some True Things You Need to Remember!

    1. Your baseline is not your fault, but what you do next is
    2. People are multidimensional, but your left hemisphere makes them 2-D
    3. God is a quantum physics God
    4. You are never stuck- your brain is literally changing its structure every second. All you have to do is decide to be purposeful about it.
    5. The way our brains see the world is affected by many factors (culture, genetics, faith, experiences, many others), but that doesn't make it more or less correct, because feelings aren't facts (the second commandment)

Scripture: Jeremiah 23:23 "Am I a God who is only close at hand?ā€ says the Lord.
ā€œNo, I am far away at the same time." NLT

  • It's Frontal Lobe Friday!

Today, the first in a series of looking at each of the Ten Commandments of Self-Brain Surgery in more detail. The first commandment, just like in medical school, is primum non nocere, First No Harm. Self-Brain Surgeons say it like this: "I will relentlessly refuse to participate in my own demise."

    Scripture: Mark 12:30-31, Romans 12:1-2, Psalm 19:14

The Ten Commandments of Self-Brain Surgery (Updated 3/8/2024; corollaries coming soon)
    1. I must relentlessly refuse to participate in my own demise.

    2. I must recognize that feelings are not facts, they are chemical events in my brain.

    3. I must recognize that most of my thoughts are untrue.

    4. I must love tomorrow more than I hate how I feel right now.

    5. I must not treat bad feelings with bad operations.

    6. I must stop making an operation out of everything.

    7. I must not perpetuate generational thought or behavioral issues in my family or start any new ones.

    8. I must love my brain and live in such a way as to improve it.

    9. I must believe that what Iā€™m doing Iā€™m getting better at.

    10. I must understand that thoughts become things.

  • Your Brain Has Two Halves, and They See the World Very Differently

Learning to integrate what you see from both sides of your brain is a key to becoming healthier, feeling better, and being happier. It turns out that the Bible has a lot to say about that too.

    Scripture: I Corinthians 2:15-15, II Corinthians 3:18, I Corinthians 13:12, Ephesians 1:18-23, Romans 1:19-20
