Belonging uncertainty sounds like:
I don't know if this is my place, my thing, my peeps, or my favorite, my "vibe." It's what we tell ourselves when we feel uncertain about our belonging. It's always a good idea to notice when you are in the middle of expereincing belonging uncertainty because #SelfAwareness.
It's a great reminder that we always have a choice to deliberatelty not add ourselves into situations where we feel like we don't belong to preserve and protect our nervous systems, or to conciously add ourselves with the desire to take up all the space. The important thing to remember is we have the choice.
Now hears the rub. It's called limininty and it feels like a belonging vacuum devoid of connection, love and humantity. This is quite literally "the space between"
It is what "Ni de aqui ni de alla" feels like. It stinks.
This episode is about understanding spaces of liminity, making sure you know that that crappy feeling you are so familiar with is acknowledged here and now and offers a way through.

If you're a first gen you're probably familiar with putting your own feelings on the back burner. It's important to talk about your experience (even if you feel guilty) because this is a shared experience which means you're not alone. That in the wake of the tragic murder of George Floyd, an opening was created that invited nuanced storytelling from marginalized communities to come in and add to the collective narrative. Authentic storytelling is one of the more powerful ways we connect to our own sense of belonging. A shared ideology called collectivism unites people across ethnic groups and that awareness pulls us together in arguably the most polarizing of times.

The concept of bringing your "whole self to work" is becoming increasingly popular, but what if you don't feel like that's going to fly in your workplace?
More importantly, what if it doesn't feel safe?
This is a common feeling for so many people, especially those with a collective-dominant background which prioritizes the group over the individual. In this episode, we'll dive into the specific ideological differences between Latinos and the dominant (self-reliant) culture, and why this can lead to a conflict of belief systems and values at work.

1. Make your employees feel welcome and at home from the moment they walk in the door, like they're walking into someone's living room. Leaders have the power to create or destroy belonging in these moments.
2. Become an "Over Introducer" and make an effort to make the new person in the group feel seen and valued. When introducing them, be sure to share something unique about that person, so that the rest of the group knows how special they are to you.
3. Be honest about what you love and appreciate about the people that work for you, it's a huge motivator for them to keep working for you, and it doesn't cost you anything.
