From Ilan's first big break, on Matthew Vaughn's Layer Cake, to the importance of having a great relationship with the Director and how Ilan starts the composing process we talk through Ilanâs journey in composing and his love for story-telling through music. Ilan has composed music for many award-winning films including Layer Cake, Still Alice, Stardust, The Young Victoria and Shaun The Sheep. We find out why he loves working with Ralph Fiennes, with whom he has composed the scores to all three films that Ralph has directed.
Ilan also composed music for several video games including Sony PlayStationâs blockbuster video game Ghost of Tsushima and The Sims 4. He has worked on TV shows including David Attenborough's A Perfect Planet and the Netflix series Captains.
Ilan's live show in conjunction with British astronaut Tim Peake, entitled Space Station Earth, is touring the US in 2023. Check out their website for info here.

When youâre already part of one of the biggest bands in the UK, launching a successful solo career can be daunting, as Dave tells us, but listening to his first solo record he seems to have found his groove. Join us as we ask Dave what took him so long to record his first solo album, what inspired the songs and how he managed to record his album during the lockdowns of covid (remember them?).

Peter was 15 when he became the lead singer of Hermanâs Hermits and only 16 when âIâm Into Something Goodâ reached no.1 in the UK chart. Six months later, they reached the top of the US charts with "Mrs. Brown, Youâve Got a Lovely Daughter,â but what was it like to grace the cover of every magazine and deal with huge fame in the 1960âs?

Dr Jess Duckworth, aka The Piano Doctor, composes delicate, melodic, reflective piano music that resonated across the world during the covid pandemic and ever since, propelling her album to the top of the UK Classical Charts and securing her a top 20 UK album in early 2022.
As a medical doctor, Jess was at the frontline of the UK covid pandemic, but then, on her way home after long, long shifts in hospital she would sit at the piano and play one of her beautiful compositions for the patients who could not have visitors and the medics and staff who could barely rest.

Alecâs work has won countless awards including a coveted Cannes Lions Grand Prix, a Grand Clio, and an Emmy for Outstanding Commercial. He was responsible for the first-ever licensed use of a Prince recording in an advert, produced a full-blown Broadway musical for Skittles on Super Bowl Sunday, nabbed a first-ever Guild of Music Supervisors nomination for a beer brand as well as a win for Best Original Score at the Music & Sound Awards!
Find out how Alec went from writing music to working in the music department for a major advertising agency, at a time when major artists were waking up to how lucrative a music placement could be. Listen to Alec talking about being the first person to license a Prince song for sync whilst working as Director of Music for two major advertising agencies.
Listen to Alec talk about the importance of creating an emotional connection with the visuals through choosing the right music. And how he worked on a Skittles Super Bowl advertising campaign that resulted in a real Broadway show, with Alec producing the hugely successful official cast album that resulted.
In 2022, Alec teamed up with Music Supervision company Radish Music to continue finding innovative ways for music to be an integral piece in the way artists, brands, and storytellers communicate and interact with the world. Alec also found time to write, record and release his album âTell, The Riverâ which has storytelling at its heart and features collaborations with a number of other artists and storytellers to create a piece of art.

Hear how Sean managed to learn 23 Smash Mouth songs in three days to join them on a tour of US military bases in the Middle East in 2011 and how he approaches learning other artists' music.
In 2014, Sean was burned out, sold his music catalogue and took a few years off writing, recording and touring, only to return a few years later with a different approach to the business, thanks to a chance meeting with someone from Taxi. Listen to the difference this made to Seanâs music career.

Brady joined us to talk about his movie career; from child actor in TV and film to film directing. Hear what influenced Brady to pursue his love of film and how he was able to work with some of his filmmaking heroes including Lars Von Trier and Michael Haneke.
Brady talks about how he left acting to become a filmmaker, how his own experiences of auditioning for roles as a child have influenced how he casts for his movies, why he often works with the same people and why he wishes he could make even smaller budget indie movies.
Hear how he shot Vox Lux in 22 days and why he wanted Sia to write the music for the movie, starring Natalie Portman and Jude Law. Brady talks about the importance of music in his films and why he always has a musical concept in mind from the script stage and so much more.

Des Shaw is currently working with Tony Defries on a podcast series that explores the history of Main Man and the groundbreaking work Defries did with Bowie, Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, Marianne Faithful and dozens of others in the '70s.
