Hi everyone,
Since recording this message yesterday, I've already began to make some slow progress behind the scenes today. It just shows what a difference a day can make!
I realise I'm not the only one dealing with something right now, so, I wanted to say, if you're having a tough time lately, for whatever reason, I want to remind you that you are not alone.
There are people who care about you, and there is support available, So please don't hesitate to reach out to someone if you need to, - Whether it's a friend, a family member, a therapist, or a helpline, talking to someone who cares can make a huge difference. You don't have to go through this alone. - Be kind to yourself. You are doing the best you can, and you deserve compassion and respect. Don't be too hard on yourself, and don't compare yourself to others. You are unique and valuable, and you have the strength to overcome this challenge.
Sending love and strength to anyone who needs it right now.

Imagine being stuck in a never-ending nightmare, with no hope of escape. Every day, the same routine: confined to a tiny cell, with nothing to do but stare at the walls. No end in sight, no light at the end of the tunnel. This has been the reality for thousands of prisoners in the UK, trapped in the Imprisonment for Public Protection (IPP) sentence.
When the IPP sentence was introduced in the early 2000s, it seemed like a perfect solution to keep dangerous offenders off the streets for longer periods of time. But it would quickly become an unjust nightmare for many prisoners and their families, as they were caught up in a system that seemed to have no way out. What exactly was the IPP system, and how did it come to be? What impact has it had on prisoners and their families, and how did it change the landscape of the UK prison system?

Friday, the 23rd of February 1968, was a cold, frost covered morning, when 67 year old Maurice Goodman, known as Morris, happened upon a figure lying on the ground on Carmichael Lane, in front of some lockup garages, not too far from Langside Place in Glasgow, Scotland. But a sight like that wasn't too uncommon after ballroom nights. Maybe someone had had a bit too much to drink, and passed out outside. But as Maurice stepped closer, intending to wake the person, he realised that this was not the case.
Maurice stood there, looking at the naked and terribly pale body of a young woman lying on her back. He nudged the body with his foot, and it was then, that he realised the woman had passed away.
Recoiling in horror, Maurice ran back home to Carmichael Place to call the police. There is an expectation that the criminal justice system is there to protect society and to punish offenders for the crimes they have committed. But what about when their crimes are so horrendous, so damaging, and so perverse, that you can barely stand to hear about them. Is a term of imprisonment really enough? Does the safety offered by concrete walls, and three-square meals a day protect society, or does it shield the offender from those who feel like they deserve a taste of their own medicine?
In today’s episode, we cover the life and crimes of Richard Huckle, one of the UKs worst known child sex offenders. But Richard’s story doesn’t belong only to him. It is also the tale of Paul Fitzgerald - a man whose name might never have been known, had he not served up his own form of jailhouse justice. His actions were wrong by the standard of the law, but when you learn about Richard’s history – will you still feel the same way?

"I remember when they were younger, they would always say they were scared of monsters and I would say there’s ‘no such thing’. How wrong I was.”
These are the haunting words of Angela Smith, the grandmother of Lacey, and John Paul Bennet, and mother of Terri Harris, three of the victims in today's harrowing case.
On the 19th of September 2021, police would receive not one, but two calls, which would bring to light a series of events that would shock the UK. This is the story, of the Killamarsh Murders.
At exactly 7.26 that morning, the police received a call from a mother, expressing concern for her adult son’s safety. She told the operator that her son had told her he was suffering from self-inflicted stab wounds, and she requested that police perform a wellness check. Minutes later, at exactly 7.38 am, the police received another call. The man on the line stated, in what was reported as an unusually nonchalant manner, “I just need to report a crime, basically I need the police and an ambulance now because I’ve just killed four people.” When the man identified himself and his address, the operator was able to link the two separate calls, both of which told very different stories. The man identified himself as Damien Bendall.

Banaz Mahmod, was a young woman, living in the United Kingdom, whilst being simultaneously imprisoned by the strict beliefs of her culture. After a childhood spent in a war-torn country, her family escaped for a safer life in the UK. But, western culture clashed deeply with her community, and she was torn between honouring her family, and honouring herself.Ultimately, choosing herself, meant choosing to go against her family. For them, there was no greater shame, and only one adequate punishment. Death.

In broad daylight, on a warm summer afternoon in 2016, British politician, and MP for Batley and Spen, Jo Cox, was murdered in cold-blood. Horrified witnesses at the scene, scrambled at the sound of gunshots, and the sight of an unknown attacker with a sawn-off rifle, and knife in hand. Jo Cox’s death stunned the nation, and sent shockwaves through Britain's political circle.
As investigators begin to gather evidence that would explain the horrific murder of a beloved politician, wife, and mother of two, the nation is left with a pressing question–what could have possibly led a man with seemingly no history of violence to brutally murder a female MP that he had never met? The answers to that question were more troubling than anyone could have imagined.

“Hello there, this is the gunman from Birtley last night, er, my name is Raoul Moat...um, what I’m phoning about is to tell you exactly why I have done what I have done right? Now my girlfriend has been having an affair behind my back with one of your officers, this gentleman that I shot last night...I am hunting for officers now.”
This was the 999 call from mass killer, Raoul Moat, while he was on the run. To understand how he came to be making this call, we must first go back to long before Raoul’s life even began. Raoul’s father's life, his mother's life, and his own childhood, are all inextricably woven into the journey to him becoming a brutal, and ruthless killer.

When 31-year-old, Gareth Williams, began to miss work, his colleagues, and family became concerned. Gareth had always been reliable, and kept to his routines. But on August 23, 2010, when the police were asked to do a welfare check, they entered Gareth’s London flat, and made a shocking discovery. The police found Gareth dead, zipped up, and locked inside a duffle bag. Authorities ruled Gareth Williams’ death a tragic accident, but conspiracy theories about how Gareth Williams died quickly began to circulate, with some believing that his work as an MI6 spy, and double-life may offer clues into his mysterious death. Years later, Gareth’s death remains unsolved, leading friends and family to wonder: was it suicide? Or was Gareth Williams murdered? And if so, by who? And more importantly, why?

We all know the justice system exists to protect the public against criminals and their heinous crimes. But what if these laws, and regulations, suddenly contradict their purpose, and work in favour of the offender?
Anyone can assume that based on a lack of evidence or proof of their innocence that an accused person is not guilty. But what if that same person eventually confesses to the crime - You’d naturally assume that the criminal would be charged, and sentenced appropriately right?
But in the case of Julie Hogg, who was murdered in 1989, her killer was able to retain his freedom, despite admitting what he had done. The horrible reason behind this, is a law introduced in the 12th century – that of double jeopardy.
Julie's parents took up the fight for justice in the name of their loving daughter. Her mother stated, “I will never ever give up… never. To my dying day and as long as I am drawing breath, and as long as there is someone to listen, I will keep on going”. Eventually, it would take more than 15 years to change the “double jeopardy” law. But was it too late for their daughter’s killer?

In the early morning hours of the 29th of March 2014, a person walking through Castle Park, in Colchester, noticed a man lying unusually still in the grass to the side of the path. They could hear a kind of gurgling noise, and as they approached, they were horrified to discover, the man was completely covered in blood, from the top of his head, to the bottom of his legs...

When the naked body of 6-year-old Rikki Neave, was found near his Peterborough home, on the 29th of November, 1994, his abusive mother was initially seen as a suspect… but the case quickly went cold when she was eventually acquitted.
It would take more than 25 years, before someone was again charged with the murder of the 6-year-old, and the killer is finally unmasked.

On the 13th of March, 2002, something mysterious was found in Exmoor. It had been a chilly, windy, Wednesday morning, when a park ranger began his rounds of the Moorland national park. He soon came across a pile of bin bags that had been thrown close to the road. This wasn’t unusual however, as people would often dump rubbish, and sometimes even animal remains along this stretch. The ranger got to his job of clearing up the bags and assumed they were the remains of some kind of pet. After completing his rounds, he proceeded to the Devon and Somerset, Stag Hounds Kennels, where the bones were going to be safely incinerated.
But once the bags were opened and searched, a shocking discovery was made - these were the severely decomposed remains of a human body... But who was this person? And how had they ended up there?

Just before Christmas, 2000, a horrific discovery was made by the edge of the river Thames in London—The severed torso of a woman... It did not take long for the police to identify the victim as 24-year-old Zoe Parker, but to this day, we still do not know who took her life.

Fourteen-year-old schoolgirl, Tracey Meade, went missing in January 1992, after telling her mother she was going to stay at her Aunt's. The two-week search for the teenager ended in tragedy, when her body was found in the Grand Union Canal.
Three decades later, Tracey's murder remains unsolved...

Fourteen-year-old, Sarah Benford, has not been seen since she disappeared from a care home in Northampton, on April 6th, 2000. Nor has her body ever been discovered.
Today, more than 20-years later, investigators are still trying to find out, what happened to Sarah.

On a cold and foggy evening on December the 23rd, 1992, 14-year Johanna Young left her home in Watton, Norfolk, never to be seen again—at least not alive.
Three days later, Johanna's body was discovered in a water-filled marl pit. Despite massive investigation and several arrests, nobody has ever been charged with her murder.

Natalie Putt was just 17 years old when she allegedly walked out of her home on September 1, 2003, in Dudley in the West Midlands—and was never seen again.
Despite extensive searches for the young mother, no clues of her whereabouts or her possible killer have ever been found.

At the time of her disappearance Natalie was 5'1" tall, slim build, with black shoulder-length hair and a Midlands accent. She was wearing a white hooded sweatshirt, tight cream trousers, large gold hooped earrings, white trainers, and an engraved pendant.
