  • Recently, we shared a post on Instagram that explained why I don’t love the idea of taking away recess as a punishment for not completing work. We got a lot of engagement on this post,

    We heard a lot of feedback from our followers asking if we had a solution, so I decided to do a podcast episode about the benefits of recess and why it should not be taken away as a punishment. Today I'm diving into the positive impacts of recess.

    I believe recess is just as important as academic subjects. Movement is necessary for kids to regulate their nervous system and they need to be able to do that throughout the day. If you don't give children an opportunity to get active and use energy, they won't have a chance to regulate their nervous system.

    I love focusing on positive rewards with kids. One of the ideas I share in this episode is instead of taking away recess, try incentivizing extra recess, free time at the end of the day, or other special privileges when they complete their work.

    For example, if students last 10-15 minutes of your school day, you can reward them with free time as long as their work is complete. Kids who have not finished their work or who didn’t follow the rules as expected will need to finish their work or have reflection time instead.

    This way as a natural consequence, the kids will lose that time- without losing the recess time that is essential to their ability to regulate.

Since we saw him last, he's been on a hit Netflix show and is selling out shows. We have NYC teacher, stand-up comedian, and Educate & Rejuvenate Summer 2024 keynote speaker, Gaspare Randazzo!

    Gaspare Randazzo is a teacher in his 11th year in the classroom. When he's not in the classroom, you can find Gaspare doing stand up comedy where he talks about his life as a teacher and his experiences dealing with students from all walks of life. His stories range from students hating him and wanting to punch him in the face to them loving him and bringing him school lunch trays to eat during every period. You may know him from Instagram, TikTok, Co-Host of "The Social Studies Podcast with Joe Dombroski and Gaspare Randazzo" or from the Netflix show, The Trust.

    And in case you haven't heard, Gaspare is one of the keynote speakers for this summer's Educate and Rejuvenate alongside Kristina Kuzmic.

    We had such a fun conversation on today's episode. Gaspare shares insights into his experience on Netflix's hit reality show, "The Trust,". Gaspare provides behind-the-scenes insight, dives into the show's editing process, the emotional experience of being on a reality show, the audition process and so much more.

  • This is the first episode I've recorded by myself here since the Self-Love Challenge! That means it's almost been a month since I've been in the studio to record a new episode. I'm so excited! Today we are talking all about how to make your goals easy with minimum baselines.

    We touched on making goals easy during the Self Love Challenge and when I was doing one of the calls with the Club and VIP challengers. One of the concepts that our community wanted to discuss more was around the concept of minimum baselines and making it EASY, so we're diving into it today.

    How many times have you said you’ll start something, but then it doesn’t happen? Chances are you weren’t specific about what you wanted to do and when, making it easy for us to skip it. Or you expected to jump from 0 to 60. Doing this makes your goals harder not easier, so it's easier to not keep your goals.

    MINIMUM BASELINES are a great way to clarify what we want and implement habit stacking, a crucial component to creating lasting habits.

    We also want to make completing the routine easy, even on the busiest days. This is where we want to make a minimum baseline for each routine step. The point of a minimum baseline is to set the bar low for what is acceptable for the habit, making success easy.  So often, we feel the need for things like this to be significant every time to be meaningful. But it’s more about building habits and routines than anything else.

    This is just one of the ideas we dive into today. If you want to make your goals easy, one way to do that is by making it super basic and easy to where it almost feels silly and pointless.
