Episode # 009: This is the final part of a series in which I explore the root causes behind depression and the mindsets that can contribute to it, and in the end Iâm going to delve into ways to overcome and deal with depression in a healthy and effective way. In this episode I get my boots to the ground and talk with other people suffering from depression and discuss how to distinguish between ADHD and depression. I also talk about how ADHD could be the underpinnings of depression.I reveal coping strategies for RSD, emotional dysregulation, low self-esteem and social isolation that have worked in my life. I do deep with my on the spot guests about their experience with suicidal ideation and I am grateful for their open vulnerability. Suicide is a very real and scary thing and it happens more often than you might think because people just donât feel safe talking about it. There is hope by reaching out and getting connected to ways to manage through community and medication. Together we can gain more clarity on how we can help fight this and bring it into the light.

In this episode I talk about the impact of the LA fires and how you can contribute the most to make an impact. I canât imagine what these folks are going through and just how depressing that might be.I also talk about how depression continues to affect me even while making this episode in hopes that talking about it will help. I take a look at the connection between upbringing and parenting styles can make a hard situation that much more difficult. How to manage a child who could have depression, what to look for and the differences between it and ADHD. These techniques can be used to explore our own depression by giving ourselves much needed compassion and understanding.

In this episode I go deeper into Naturopath Jodi Gozzardâs expertise on the science of stress, toxicity, brain waves and gene mutation getting closer to the root cause of depression. Along this enlightening journey of discovery I go out and ask my audience how stress and toxicity has impacted them in their daily lives and how they manage it. I get an indepth look at just how deep these things can go and that there is hope in finding a solution but you have to get to the root. My hope is that this sheds light onto a subject that doesnât get talked about as much as it should and has become a silent epidemic.

In this episode I talk about my experience with depression and some of the ways that have helped me to get better with it. That it has been a lifelong battle for me, yet through talking about it there is light at the end of the tunnel.I examine the chemical aspects of what can contribute to depression including dopamine, serotonin and cortisol. Through my research, I take a peek into Naturopath Jodi Gozzardâs expertise on the subjects of allergies, gut health and diet and how they can have a real impact on emotional well-being. I hope that this sheds light onto a subject that doesnât get talked about as much as it should and has become a silent epidemic.

Episode #5: I talk with the founder and president of the Menâs ADHD support group on Facebook Marc Alvomodar about how he got involved in such a much-needed platform. Marc describes how he always knew that he was a little bit different and how he was âliving in distraction.â How being diagnosed at sixteen with ADHD and severe depression helped forge his desire to help others by getting into coaching. Marc was shocked to find that dedicated safe spaces for men to come and share openly about their struggles with ADHD were virtually nonexistent.Marc recalls the journey from just an idea to now being one of the largest menâs ADHD support groups reaching over 20,000 members. He also talks about his experience growing up in the hispanic community with ADHD and they are still largely underserved. We also talk about depression, and he describes it as a mind that is âwired against him.â With the tools he learned to harness he was able to rewire his brain and transform into a more energetic and enthusiastic person. Looking back, Marc expresses how he is grateful for that time and how it inspires him to âbe the voice that I wanted to hear at that time.â

We also talk about our shared struggles and what solutions have worked for us. Russ talks about how his passion for helping has led him to develop Coaching by Community in what he calls âIn service of the doing.â Making coaching affordable and gamifying it so that it really attacks the core of what we struggle with. The value of being in a group helps to keep you accountable and on track with your goals.We also talk about how mediation and mindfulness has really helped to maintain an emotional balance.
