Today's guest on 5-Minute Parenting is Michelle Lazurek, a multi-genre award-winning author and mother, who shares her wisdom on leaving a legacy of faith to our children. Michelle's insights and personal experiences shed light on practical ways parents can cultivate a lasting impact on their children's spiritual journey.

    Key Takeaways:

    1. Differentiate Sunday from the everyday: Help children discern between worldly values and spiritual truths. Emphasize the importance of being part of a local church community and integrating faith into everyday life.

    2. Be the example: Parents need to lead by example, demonstrating a commitment to spiritual growth and a genuine faith journey. Children absorb and emulate what they see in their parents, making it crucial to be intentional about living out and sharing one's faith.

    3. Let them be them: Allow children to explore their faith and individuality without imposing expectations. Encourage open communication, address their doubts, and empower them to make their own choices in their spiritual journey.

I'm grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this important conversation and hope that these insights provide meaningful guidance to all the parents out there. Let's continue to support each other as we navigate the beautiful yet challenging journey of parenting.

She's a dedicated educator, an accomplished author, and a passionate advocate for child development and education. She's a former special education teacher, a school administrator, and university professor. Holly now writes full time, and she creates resources supporting parents and educators. Her Dilly Duck and Friends series features three award-winning children's picture books, and it highlights the themes of kindness, teamwork, and environmental awareness.

Here are some of the key takeaways from the episode:

Here are 3 key takeaways for parents navigating the education landscape for their children:

    1. Flexibility in Education: Explore various schooling options - public, private, homeschooling - based on your child's unique needs and interests.

    2. Supportive Environment: Consider how the school's values align with your family's beliefs to provide a nurturing and conducive learning environment.

    3. Empowerment Through Preparation: The need to equip our children with a strong biblical foundation so they can stand firm against the current anti-Christian culture.

With summer break just around the corner, it's time to start planning some exciting activities for your kids. In this week's episode of 5-Minute Parenting, we discussed the importance of creating a bucket list of summer activities for your children. Whether it's encouraging them to try a new sport, embarking on a road trip, or embracing outdoor adventures, there are endless possibilities to make this summer an unforgettable one for your family.

Here are some ideas to consider adding to your bucket list:

    1. Encourage them to try a new sport - surfing, joining a local baseball game, or any physical activity where they can get exercise and meet new friends.

    2. Plan a road trip or day trips to nearby cities, state parks, or theme parks.

    3. Foster a love for reading and creative writing by visiting local libraries, joining summer reading programs, and encouraging journaling or blogging.

    4. Get creative with arts and crafts, DIY projects, cooking classes, or even gardening to develop practical life skills.

    5. Embrace outdoor adventures such as hiking, camping, fishing, biking, or picnics at the local park.

    6. Encourage learning about different cultures or languages by exploring local museums, attending cultural festivals, or joining online classes.

    7. Teens may want to take on a summer job, perhaps at a local cafe, bookstores or even start a small online business which will give them experience handling money and people.

    8. Volunteer at a charity or animal shelter to give back to the community, fostering personal growth and empathy in your child.

Remember to involve your children in creating the bucket list to ensure they have a summer filled with activities they are passionate about. Explore classes at your local YMCA or summer activities at their school to supplement your list and make this summer one to remember.

These ideas came from a free list at this website. It's a great site for free downloads and resources for purchase.

Today, I again put on my teacher hat as we discuss ADHD accommodations in public schools for children. It's important for parents to understand how public schools typically make accommodations for ADHD students. In public schools, these accommodations are known as 504 plans, which are designed to offer support for ADHD students.

    Some typical accommodations include:

    1. Presentation & Organizational accommodations may involve highlighted text, audiobooks, pre-made outlines, and visual schedules.

    2. Response accommodations can change how students complete classroom work - such as verbal testing or using technology for assignments.

    3. Environmental accommodations can include changes to the classroom setting, such as quieter testing environments or the use of fidget toys.

    4. Timing accommodations allow for more time on tests or additional rest breaks to support ADHD students throughout the day.

It's crucial for parents to advocate for their child's needs in school. Remember, having ADHD does not mean your child won't succeed in life. With the right support and accommodations, they can thrive academically! Stay tuned next week as I break down some accommodations for different age levels on 5-Minute Parenting podcast. #ADHD #504Plan #accommodations
