In the film, our heroes stage a prison break to get to the Wacken m usic festival where they hope to win the money to save their lead guitarist’s farm. Complicating things are a vengeful prison guard and a record executive whose name seems to almost be Mephistopheles.

Jason and Tony chat with with Kier-La Janisse. Janisse is a film writer, publisher, producer, acquisitions executive for Severin Films and an Adjunct Associate Professor in the School of Communication and Creative Arts at Deakin University. She is the author of several books including House of Psychotic Women: An Autobiographical Topography of Female Neurosis in Horror and Exploitation Films (2012/2022); and a prolific editor. She wrote, directed and produced the award-winning documentary Woodlands Dark and Days Bewitched: A History of Folk Horror (2021), and produced the acclaimed blu-ray box sets All the Haunts Be Ours: A Compendium of Folk Horror (2021) and The Sensual World of Black Emanuelle (2023), and now her newest release is ALL THE HAUNTS BE OURS: VOLUME 2. This week we have a look at the 1992 British film Ghostwatch. This is Episode #445! Ghostwatch is a British mockumentary supernatural horror television film, first broadcast on BBC1 on Halloween night, 1992. Written by Stephen Volk, and directed by Lesley Manning, the drama was produced for the BBC anthology series Screen One by Richard Broke, Ruth Baumgarten and Derek Nelson. The narrative presents itself as a live television broadcast. Many elements of the story would be present in later works like Paranormal Activity and The Blair Witch Project.

This week we have a look at the 2024 film Salem’s Lot. This is Episode #444! 'Salem's Lot is a 2024 American supernatural horror film written and directed by Gary Dauberman, based on the 1975 novel by Stephen King. The film stars Lewis Pullman, Makenzie Leigh, Alfre Woodard, John Benjamin Hickey, Bill Camp, Jordan Preston Carter, Nicholas Crovetti, Spencer Treat Clark, William Sadler, and Pilou Asbæk. It is the first feature film adaptation of the book, preceded by miniseries versions from 1979 and 2004. The plot centers on a writer who returns to his hometown of Jerusalem's Lot in search of inspiration, only to discover the presence of a vampire. The film was announced in 2019 and shot in 2021, with additional photography in 2022. The film's release was delayed multiple times.'Salem's Lot had its world premiere as the opening film at the Beyond Fest on September 25, 2024, and was released on Max on October 3, 2024. The film received mixed reviews from critics.

His books include Bloodsucker City, Whiskey Stories and Braddock’s Falls; he’s currently in post on his black and white arthouse feature drama Mandromeda, and is about to shoot his next film, The Stickfighter.

Joined by her sister Olivia, who documents the process, strange things begin to happen as the house's layout begins to change, and the two find themselves trapped inside an inescapable, nightmarish puzzle box.

Black Sunday (Italian: La maschera del demonio, lit. 'The mask of the demon') is a 1960 Italian gothic horror film directed by Mario Bava in his official directorial debut, and starring Barbara Steele, John Richardson, Andrea Checchi, Ivo Garrani, Arturo Dominici and Enrico Oliveri. Loosely based on Nikolai Gogol's short story "Viy", the film takes place in Moldavia and tells the story of a witch who is put to death by her brother, only to return two centuries later to seek revenge upon his descendants.

Tonight we’re chatting with Leslie Lutz, author of the new book SWEETEST DARKNESS from Holiday House. SWEETEST DARKNESS is a supernatural horror novel in which a teenage psychic is drawn deep into the honeycomb of an abandoned hotel—and into a cat-and-mouse game with a predatory entity. This is Dark Americana, from the crumbling Hollywood glamor of the Alvarado Hotel, to the neon-lit diner where the final showdown happens, to the shining horizon of the Chihuahuan Desert just outside town. It’s a horror set in a moody Southwestern landscape. Leslie Lutz is a young adult author whose poetry and prose have been widely published and whose debut YA thriller, FRACTURED TIDE, was voted best of 2020 by Suspense Magazine and was a Junior Library Guild Gold Standard pick. She lives in the Pacific Northwest with her husband and daughter, along with three cats and two spoiled chickens.

Tonight we’re chatting with Director Patricio Valladares and Screenwriter Barry Keating of the new film INVOKING YELL. Patricio Valladares’ films have been showcased at festivals like Sitges, Fantasía, and Frightfest. In 2022, he directed three feature films, including the sequel to "Hidden in the Woods" for Germany and "Invoking Yell", acquired by Welcome Villain for release. Barry Keating has written 9 produced feature films, and has worked with genre icons such as Robert Englund (A Night On Elm Street), Ken Foree (Dawn of The Dead), Franco Nero (Die Hard 2) and the late Julian Sands (Naked Lunch) in one of his final roles.Set in 1997 in the south of Chile, INVOKING YELL is a love letter to black metal that follows a trio of metalhead twenty-something girls who venture into the woods to shoot the demo tape for their black metal band, Invoking Yell. However, things take a sinister turn as they document their disturbing and unorthodox process of recording paranormal phenomena to be used in the album’s final track.INVOKING YELL will be released on 9/20 and available via Fandango at home and AppleTV. It marks the fifth collaboration between Barry Keating and Patricio Valladares.

Libby is a Shamus and Black Orchid award winner and author of the acclaimed novel The Big Rewind. About the book: Upstate New York. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is a 2024 American dark fantasy comedy horror film directed by Tim Burton from a screenplay by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. A sequel to Beetlejuice (1988) and the second film of the Beetlejuice franchise, the film stars Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O'Hara reprising their roles alongside new cast members Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci, Jenna Ortega, and Willem Dafoe. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice opened the 81st Venice International Film Festival on August 28, 2024, and was theatrically released overseas on September 4, 2024, and in the United States by Warner Bros. Pictures two days later. The film has received generally positive reviews from critics and grossed $147 million worldwide on a $100 million budget.
