  • Self-Tapes: The Tinder Of Casting

Gary Turner is an actor on stage and screen, known for playing Carlos Diaz in Emmerdale and more recently voicing a variety of characters in the Doctor Who Podcast Series.

We get talking about how doing drama saved us from bullying; how idolised award winning actors leaves the rest of us behind, this leads to some hot takes on some iconic performers, and a hot take of my own about the industry.

  • Are you telling the right story?

Conor is a working-class Actor, Motion Capture Artist, Theatre Practitioner and a fully qualified Daoist Flow Yoga Teacher.

He is an Associate Artist of the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain and regularly facilitates for The Old Vic on their School's Club programme, delivering bespoke workshops to schools from areas with poor arts provisions.

Conor and I talk about sooooo much, but some of the industry observations highlighted are actors neutralising their accents; who’s teaching our future artists, and are they qualified? We also touch upon the genius that is Rory Kinnear. There’s plenty more to unpack, brimming with inspiration.

  • 3 Star Richards

Paul Richards is a drummer/drum teacher, comedy writer/performer (for theatre), playwright and novelist based in Cambridge. 42, lanky, can’t grow a beard.

As a writer/performer he has taken countless (well, 34) shows to the Edinburgh Fringe, tours the UK frequently going through quite a lot of cars and has had some quite nice reviews in the process. He talks very fast, usually about his love of Ginsters slices and often tries to justify it all as theatre. His 2018 play won an award, with his 2019 (but still touring…) show, Harvey Greenfield is Running Late picking up national acclaim. The feature film version finally went into production in 2021, with Paul once again taking the title role alongside Mr Motivator, Liz Barker (Blue Peter), Norman Lovet (Red Dwarf) and many others.

Amy grew up in Australia, to an Aussie mum and an English dad who had come over with the ten-pound tourists.

Since graduating with a B.A. (Hons) in Classics from Monash University, Amy’s diverse career has led to touring Australia with Tony Bones Entertainment, working onstage and off at Main Street Theater, (in American Theatre's 'Top 20 Children’s Theatres in the U.S.A.'), and creating/performing several original plays.

Amy has been developing their debut full length play We Never Get Off at Sloane Square, based on Helen DeWitt’s novel The Last Samurai. It was supported by the Park Theatre Script Accelerator, with a forthcoming four-week run TBC.

  • There's no inspiration without breath

Holly Renaut has had an international career in theatre, film and voice over, both as a performer and as a highly regarded dialect and acting coach, working with hundreds of performers all over the world individually and in production, most recently coaching Chiwetel Ejiofor and Naomie Harris in the Man Who Fell to Earth.

A native of Canada, she has performed and toured in 6 different countries, including two summer shows at the RSC outdoor venue, voiced countless characters, ads, and video games including Nintendo’s Metroid Dread, and most recently guest-starred in the upcoming series Land of Women.

We talk about what it’s like working in different countries, receiving some ‘free advice’ at a Shakespeare conference, her excellent Accent Challenge and what it’s like to get cast in a high profile project, and then have your scenes left on the cutting room floor.

  • "An Artful Bush Behind You"

Naomi Cooper-Davis is a comedic character actor that has appeared in Peep Show, Netflix's Sandman & Coronation Street among many other projects on screen. We talk about: how we rebel in some auditions; bad casting experiences to do with ethnic ignorance and even have time for a little history lesson as the questioning format goes out the window, due to having too much fun.

Naomi can currently be seen playing 'The Smarts' in the new MoneySuperSeven Ads, part of a re-branding campaign for MoneySuperMarket.

Stephanie is an Australian actor, a devised theatre practitioner and all round movement artist. Definitely one of the most interesting artists I’ve interviewed having had and a variety of training in performance.
