Before we go to Switzerland in 2025, we've got to go back to the last time they won: 1988, in Dublin Ireland. The Eurovangelists dive into a VERY 80s ESC with special guest Danielle Radford of MaxFun's Tights and Fights, and is there ever a bounty of Irish postcards and oversized shoulder pads to enjoy. Jeremy is bored to tears by his countrymen, Dimitry sees one of his all-time faves, Oscar can't get enough of his uncles at the wedding, and Danielle is fascinated by one word: Mangup.

You can't talk about Switzerland in Eurovision without going back to the very first year of the ESC: 1956. This week we're talking about the winner of that first contest, Lys Assia, and her long history with the contest with our special returning guest, Tobias Larsson of the Eurovision deep dive blog, Tobson och alla bidragen (https://allaeurovisionsbidrag.blogspot.com/). Jeremy finds The Simpsons in an unexpected place, Dimitry sees himself in the youths of 2013, Tobias breaks down the timing of horny song records in Eurovision, and Oscar just sees another Disney Princess.

We've mentioned pre-parties on the show before, but what are they exactly? This week, we're joined by Eurovision fan and organizer of the MancHagen pre-party, James Penrose, who tells us everything we need to know about the history of pre-parties, how they get started, and maybe a detail or two about MancHagen. Jeremy worries over an American in Manchester, Dimitry covets a vintage cassette, James is still waiting for the mail, and Oscar experiences a week of shocking revelations.
MancHagen is April 10th through the 13th, with dozens of Eurovision acts, past and present, drag artists, songwriter panels, fashion runways and more! Proceeds from the show go to support Doctors Without Borders and selected LGBT charities in the UK and elsewhere. Tickets are available here: https://www.manchagen.uk/tickets

It's the MaxFunDrive, so we had to bring back our fellow MaxFun host and first ever guest (and first ever returning guest), Dr. Ella Hubber of Let's Learn Everything! We take a listen to EIGHT internal selections from all over the continent, and once more get authentic British despair at the state of this year's entry. Jeremy wishes he was in the booth, Dimitry catches Cyprus in a lie, Ella's heard the milkshake might not just be a state of mind, and Oscar thinks we might be in the year of the breakdown.

We've finally reached the end of the national final season of this year's ESC, but not without a Super Saturday sized helping of drama! We've got our takes on Croatia's Dora, San Marino's San Marino Song Contest, Portugal's Festival de Cancao and Sweden's Melodifestivalen, and not all of them turned out quite how people expected. Jeremy's ready to have his life destroyed, Dimitry longs for a little more of that schlager-y goodness, and Oscar can't stop laughing at one of this week's winners.

The national finals keep right on rolling as we discuss Serbia's Pesma za Evroviziju, Denmark's Melodi Grand Prix, and Germany's Chefsache 2025. On top of that, we take a listen to the internal selections from Australia and the Netherlands and see what we think about their chances this year. Jeremy slanders Dimitry's good name, Dimitry has a bone to pick with Stefan Raab, and Oscar's suffering from hallululululucinations.

At last, a break from the incessant national finals of early February: just Armenia's Depi Evratesil and Iceland's Songvakeppnin this week, along with Azerbaijan's internal selection and revisiting Lucio Corsi from Italy, now that Olly's turned down the offer to go to the grand final. There are plenty of songs left to come, but we also wonder: what's the theme of this year's contest? Jeremy coaches male singers on finding the woman inside, Dimitry demands justice for Birgo, and Oscar has thoughts on the greatest Eurovision lewks of all time.

It's a super-duper Saturday this weekend, because not only do we cover Poland's Polish Qualifications, Estonia's Eesti Laul, Norway's Melodi Grand Prix and Lithuania's Eurovizija.LT, but we also make time for the granddaddy of all song competitions, Italy's Sanremo. It's a packed weekend of competition, but it also means there's five NEW songs in the Eurovision class of 2025. Jeremy can't get enough wind machines, Dimitry loves a popcorn superhero, and Oscar wishes those Italians would just slow it down a little.

Didn't get enough national finals last weekend? Well this time we've got FIVE national finals to talk about, starting with Ireland's Eurosong. After that, it's Ukraine's Vidbir, Latvia's Supernova, Malta's MESC, with Finland's UMK to round things out. Five finals means five new competitors in this year's ESC, and some of them have us thinking we might have heard a winner. Jeremy has the weight of the Soviet space program on his mind, Dimitry pours one out for his space grandma, and Oscar's got one Maltese song on lo-lo-loop.

Four national finals in one weekend? That's a Super Saturday, Eurovision fans, and it's the first of three in a row. We're talking about Greece's Ethnikos Telekos, Slovenia's EMA, Spain's Benidorm Fest, and Belgium's Eurosong, which means we have FOUR new Eurovision songs as well! We also talk about a particular impression by Slovenian artist Klemen, and despite his best intentions, how he missed the mark. Jeremy has no time for earnestness in 2025, Dimitry just isn't feeling his beloved Benidorm any more, and Oscar knows a 90s jam when he hears it.

National Final Season is about to start its crazy downhill decent towards Eurovision, and we've got the latest one before we're inundated with them. Luxembourg put on another great show with fantastic guest artists, and some very solid competitors as well. Jeremy celebrates a short king, Dimitry makes yet another impassioned speech against recency bias, and Oscar is a little put off by the strategizing.

We finally tackle what might be our second most common fan question, which is: why is Australia in Eurovision? The short answer is they're really good at it, but we've got the full answer, plus Australian commentary courtesy of Lachlan, the president of OGAE Australia, to give us all the inside info on the Aussie acts of the last decade. Jeremy doesn't want tomorrow, Dimitry is weightless in his love for Kate Miller-Heidke, Lachlan is close personal friends with legends, and Oscar is Montaigne all the way.

Can you believe it's been a whole year since our first episode? We kind of can't either, but it's true: we've reached our Eurovangeversary! We look back at the past year, answer a few postcards, and challenge each other to a few games, so come join the party. Jeremy's haunting his fellow hosts with the ghost of episodes past, Dimitry has a bone to pick with the ESC 250(s), and Oscar wants us to defend some titles.

It's officially 2025, which means it's national final season for Eurovision. Dimitry's put together a batch of the most compelling national finals based on accessibility, show quality, and of course, DRAMA. Happy New Year! We've reached our second national final of the 2025 Eurovision season, and it's Albania's venerable Festivali i Këngës, now in its 63rd year. We're excited for this year's revamp thanks to new director of FIK, Elhaida Dani, and we talk about our favorites and least favorites from the final night of performances. Jeremy's pleasantly surprised by a Williamsburg hipster, Dimitry urges singers to once again stay in their lane, and Oscar's got some fashion suggestions for a fellow host.

Montenegro is officially back in the Eurovision game, and the Eurovangelists are rarin' to chat about their national final, MonteSong 2024. We go over all of our favorite entries and ones that maybe weren't quite ready for the big show. Jeremy's been stung by an unknown villainess, Dimitry reveals the power of 13 people, and Oscar continues to be our Power Rangers expert.
12/4 UPDATE: The winner of MonteSong 2024 (who we won't spoil for anyone going into this episode fresh) has withdrawn from competition. We'll update you more fully next week when we will likely know who Montenegro has selected in their place, but you can check our social media accounts for more information.
