In this episode, author Oleg Veretskiy joins Ukrainian wine exporter Tanya Kagitina. Neither had any idea the turn their lives would take on Feb. 24, 2022. In this podcast, we explore how Tanya and her sister pivoted their lives to support the country's struggle for freedom. Tanya is joined by Pierce Press author, Oleg Veretskiy, who likewise gave up his real estate and writing career to volunteer and fundraise for non-lethal aid to the Ukrainian military.
How, Tanya is one of “The Odesa Sisters” who with her sister Antonina, runs an impressive sewing operation in Odesa, Ukraine, constructing high quality winter uniforms, sleeping bags, medical uniforms, adaptive underwear for injured soldiers, and other essential clothing items. Tatyana also serves as an interpreter for Ukrainian author & volunteer Oleg Veretskiy and assists in his projects supporting frontline Ukrainian military units.
Tatyana & Antonina are currently crowdfunding for 123 sets of winter uniforms for Ukrainian soldiers at $125 each. If you’d like to contribute, you can PayPal any amount to Tanya via the links on Oleg's website. The need is urgent, as battlefield temperatures are dropping daily. -

Our new author, Oleg Veretskiy has made the time to come on our livestream to answer your questions and talk about his writing and his work supporting the frontline in Ukraine. We hope you’ll join us for this special opportunity to gain insight into the life of this committed volunteer and writer in Ukraine, Oleg Veretskiy.
With this episode, we're celebrating a successful Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign and thanking our backers for helping us raise $9,000 for translation and production costs. Were reserving any pledges received through the end of the campaign on Sept. 26 for additional language translations – Ukrainian, Japanese, and Polish have been requested so far.
Be Oleg’s publishing partner – click here to pledge & help fund the next translation! Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign ends September 26.
If you would like to support Oleg & his team in their mission to help Ukrainians in the de-occupied territories and Ukrainian soldiers fighting for freedom, the verified PayPal account is [email protected]. Additional donation options, click HERE.
Oleg Veretskiy had just published the first novel in his magical realism trilogy, “Tales of the Wandering Mists: A Fairy Tale,” when Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in Feb. 2022. After getting to know him, we decided that all proceeds after production costs should go to Oleg, who has suspended his career to support Ukraine’s fight for freedom; the publisher will not retain any profits for this first book in The Tales of the Wandering Mists trilogy.
Despite the stress and disruption from the war, the reception of his first book continues to buoy Oleg. “I really like the feedback that my readers send me,” he admits. “Some of them ended up as refugees in Europe and the US, and the book has a therapeutic effect on them. When I think about this, I feel goosebumps.”
We are deeply grateful for helping us realize this meaningful project.

"The simplest definition of 'author platform' is your ability to sell books based on your network of people." - Joel Pitney, Launch My Book
This episode of Face The Book TV focuses on the core elements of an author platform - website, mailing list, social media - in that order. You can also leverage assets that you may already have - your expertise, your friends & colleagues, and to some extent, your social media.
With mindful, regular cultivation, a well built-out author platform can set you up for booming book sales by the time your publication date rolls around. You can start building your platform any time, but doing it before you even start writing is highly recommended.

To see a falcon materialize from the sky in a colossal burst of power in pursuit of prey and to realize the falconer’s role, is to enter a new understanding of the natural world, one that takes you to the “edges of existence,” as falconer John Szabo has put it.
In this pilot episode of our series “The Edge of Wild,” Master Falconer Shawn Hayes will show us how hunting game with a bird of prey is as rewarding as it is challenging. Shawn’s expertise is flying “true” falcons like Gyrfalcons, Prairie Falcons, and Peregrines, which display stunning aerobatics during hunting.
“Shawn Hayes is one of the most impressive falconers I know,” writes Tim Gallagher in the March 21 issue of Audubon Magazine. And coming from renowned Cornell ornithologist & falconer Tim Gallagher, that’s saying something!Generally reclusive, Shawn Hayes has dedicated his life to the practice of training and caring for falcons, both in his native California and around the world in places like Japan, Pakistan, and Hungary. He was recently profiled in the Patagonia film “Game Hawker, A Wild Journey to Falconry,” and in the March issue of Audubon Magazine, in an article by Tim Gallagher, "The Aspiring Ascent of Master Falconer Shawn Hayes."

“You can’t forge a relationship with a peregrine through learned helplessness, you can only force one, and it will always be tenuous. There is always the possibility the bird will rediscover the strength of his heart.” – Rebecca K. O’Connor -
Before you ask Aunt Nancy to edit your precious manuscript, consider choosing an experienced, professional editor who will have the skills to refine the readability, and ultimately, the marketability of your book.
Professional book editor Megan Harris joins host Charlotte Pierce to discuss best practices for hiring a professional editor. She'll dive into some of the important issues writers face in creating and refining manuscripts and finding the right editor for their projects. You may need more than one editor, explains Megan, depending on the stage of your book project. If you're in the concept phase or have a rough draft, a development editor can steer you in the right direction. A talented copy editor will notice if your character's eye color changes mid-manuscript. A meticulous proofreader will catch glaring errors that you've passed over hundreds of times.
