The season of good cheer is upon us. A time of merry-making with friends and family, a time of carol singing with fellow bards, a time of anxious reflection on the tensile strength of ones belt and whether it can contain the inevitable expansion wrought by all those delicious mince pies and sausage rolls. Indiana Joneses will be watched. Brussels sprouts will be boiled. Many dinners will be eaten.
Andy treats us to his own renditions of some Christmas folk songs found off the beaten track. While Ed shares a recording of Carolan's Concerto on the tin whistle from one of the Westward Ho Heroes. And, as St Stephen's day approaches, the guys discuss The Hawkin' Twang tried and trusted method of hunting that pesky wren. Will they catch it this year in Mitchelstown? Does another Christmas miracle await? The answer to these and many other questions will probably be "one more pint please."

It's almost a year since the guys started the podcast and it looks like they have finally stumbled into their first full-blown Get Folked scandal: Andy has been operating a computer for over 20 years without obtaining a European Computer Drivers License. Honestly, this could sink them. Ed (a fully qualified European Computer Driving License holder) would be well advised to cut all ties with Andy, lest the fallout attach its stink to his stank.
But amidst all this controversy, Andy and Ed find time to share their respective cultural wanderings of this past week. Ed reflects on the awesome power of the G, C, and D Chords on the guitar when played as the stars of drunkenness, overly-aggressive dancing, and a session align. While Andy reveals insights into the world of contemporary hip-hop and provides tips on how best to torpedo a conversation which you would really like to join, but later wish you hadn't.
As usual, there's lots to learn this week on The Get Folked Podcast. It's just slightly unclear by whom.

"Better late than never" is the line for The Get Folked Podcast this week as Ed causes a 24 hour delay in recording, but rest assured dear listener that he has a very good excuse for his tardiness. "What excuse?" you might ask. Well, if a four-day-long naked sauna excursion doesn't qualify as a good excuse then . . . . . . mistakes may have been made.

When does help become a hindrance? In this latest installment of The Get Folked Podcast Andy makes full use of his place in the capital of culture that is Berlin as he recounts his experience this past week at one of the greatest live performances he has ever attended. "Songs From The Holy Well" performed by Dee Mulrooney at The English Theatre Berlin and featuring Damien Dempsey, Wallis Bird, Nina Hynes, Sean Mulrooney and, of course, Growler, provides the central topic for the guys this week.
So, what did Ed do on this episode? The same thing anyone else would do when presented with this amount of insanely talented people, he sat back and listened. Well, mostly. He finds it difficult to stop talking for any extended period of time.

Ed discovers that he has become an old man as he questions the morality of using full-beam headlights around other drivers now that the evenings have closed in. This is serious old-man stuff. But his journey to old age has also been one of artistic discovery involving disappointing revelations about his facial features and at least one enthusiastically naked man.
Andy recounts being offered cosmetic surgery as a means to stave off being mistaken for a woman and fills the vacuum left by this week’s lack of music clips with some good old fashioned Riddles and a curated collection of "Would you Rather" scenarios to confound us all.

You'll be happy to know that this week's episode thankfully contains no talk of Arnold Schwarzenegger (well, maybe just a teeny tiny little bit), and it also has a brand new song from singer-songwriter Al Reddan which, for the first time on The Get Folked Podcast, is played in full.
This past week has also led Andrew to explore his recent attraction to old men while Ed's family cinema experience leaves something to be desired. And, while it may come as a shocking revelation to discover that Andy and Ed were naughty boys in school, it might not surprise you to be told that a flatulating friend is something that a teenage boy will always find to be very funny.

Another look at Numerology is on the cards this week as Andy and Ed speculate on whether or not the universe sits in judgement of us mere mortals. Does she know? Does she care?
And sticking with the theme of tackling the big questions: What do you get when you remove the crotch from a Unitard? Avant-garde fashion immortality? Possibly. Frost bite . . . down there? Probably. A criminal record? Most likely.
As usual, the guys also compare notes on who did the worst job at explaining something complicated to their kids this past week (all while providing fresh mental scars of course). It's close, so we'll leave it to our infinitely fair-minded audience to call it. And though it comes in the latter half of the episode, Andy treats us all to his alluring rendition of Katie Daly.

Ed returns to work this week and, for the first time in a long time, does not mention the treehouse on the podcast (except for in this blurb which totally doesn't count).
In one of their many digressions Andy and Ed hypothesize about how many 9-year-olds would be needed to take each of them down in, what would be for a little while at least, the world's cutest fight to the death.
Andy's week was objectively cooler than Ed's with some daytime clubbing, a visit to the party bridge, and some bean stew being just some of the highlights as he plugs an upcoming gig for "Nancy Boys" to mark Madonna Bar's 40th Birthday on Friday the 20th.

What's in a name? There seems to be a lot as Andy and Ed revisit the subject of band names, displaying what might worryingly be considered, at least for two song writers, a distinct lack of imagination. But this isn't all that's going on with your two favourite podcasters.
Ed reminisces about a memorable Sunday afternoon from his adolescence when a blunder by the censors at Ireland's national broadcaster allowed 1970s Barbara Bach into the unsuspecting and pleasantly surprised kitchens of Ireland in all her glory. Also dominating Ed's week in a way that nothing else can, the treehouse . . . . always the treehouse.
Andy finds ever more musicians to rub shoulders with in the artistic milieu of Berlin including Irish band The Murder Capital, but he also takes the opportunity (on two occasions) to mix it up with the young people of the city and see if he still has what it takes. These efforts result in a bad back and a suspiciously empty dance floor. Damn those pesky kids!

What do Chat GPT, Croatian Kayaking, Swing Dancing, and Man-Eating Donkeys have in common? Join us for Episode 36 of the Get Folked Podcast and find out.
Car trouble can't stop Ed from exploring the delights on offer in The Bodhrán pub in Mitchelstown where he finds the folk generous in their offers of drink, urinal chats, and even flamenco dancing (sort of), while offers of cheese are conspicuously absent. He even gets to see his potential future self in that night's musical act but was so mesmerised that he forgot to get music clips or the band's name (insert eye-roll here).
Thankfully, Andy brings music clips of "George and His New Heartaches" from his visit to a Swing Dance event in Berlin's Templehofer Feld to keep the Podcast's tether to music intact. He also employs Chat GPT for some help in his house-keeping with results that are . . . . ambiguous at best, but don't take my written word for it, press that play button and take my spoken word for it instead.

And so, after logging over 3000 minutes of untethered rambling, Ed and Andy put on their professional boots and thread the boards with heads held high.
Housekeeping is researched and shared between the pair with a few more factual insights into the carnal comings and goings of crows, basic Math get's explained to both gentlemen and Matthias Hohner is given the credit he deserves for blessing the earth with melodic wonders and giving lost 80'S kids a voice
Live folk music from a van parked at the top of O'Connell street sees Ed entertained in Limerick... and that's even before he hears what Snuggles and the Sandbox have to offer, while Andrew happens upon a Spati concert and the release of some new fat beats from the Hip Hop scene.
An altogether well packaged episode, complete with secret track for those who stick around to the bitter end. We were so close!

Andy's whirlwind tour of Europe continues as he broadcasts this week from Poland. A brief stop-off in Berlin beforehand allows him time to bring us all a sample of some musical talent which caught his ear in the form of Italian folk singer Johnny Ursi (Link to his Instagram below), whose version of a well loved Irish ballad draws admiration from Andy and Ed.
Rounding out the episode the animal kingdom provides the guys with ever more fodder for wonderment and discussion as Ed brings house-keeping to the centre stage with an awful lot of mostly useless information. Not falling into the category of useless information however; a compare and contrast on Mosquitos and Midges, the results might surprise you.
Other than that, an upcoming cultural experience for Ed will, alas, have happened in the past for you dear listener by the time you hear this episode as he can't quite get the hang of what it means to promote an event with the Festival in a Van visiting Limerick on Sunday the 11th of August. He tries to make up for this fumble with a new music clip from the band's latest song as they work their way towards album completion one percent at a time.
