Itâs been a minute! Jacob and Scott are back after a six-month hiatus with the first episode of Season 3. After a fairly brief catch-up, they donât waste much time before diving into the deep end and discussing the collective response to the war between Israel and Palestine. How do we keep our hearts open, how do we stay connected to compassion and love in the face of such monstrous actions?
The friends talk about how difficult it is to stay centered in love when invitations all around us are calling on us to hate. They discuss how they navigate these waters and what practices help them to remember their hearts. Itâs a doozy of an episode after so much time away and highlights the honesty and vulnerability weâve come to expect from and appreciate about them both.

In this conversation, Jacob and Scott talk about giving and receiving feedback, and how easy it is to get triggered by someoneâs experience of you, and to shut down to feedback even from those closest to you. They discuss the importance of looking at what you value in your life â in both an embodied and aspirational sense â and giving energy to creating more alignment with your values. Values are foundational and the more we consider them, the more likely we are to live meaningful, fulfilling lives. The friends also talk about how complex getting honest with yourself can be, and sometimes in our eagerness to eliminate what we see as unhealthy and untrue may actually be a true part of our nature.

In this conversation, Jacob and Scott talk about Scottâs rough entrance into New Orleans and his attempts to jibe with the Mardi Gras vibe, even though drunken crowds are decidedly not his thing. They discuss the importance of honoring where you are, and at the same time not being bound to stories about yourself that may prevent you from moving forward. The friends talk about the witness again, that place within each of us that only observes the mind and its thoughts, without becoming attached to any of them.
They leave listeners with a question to consider, in general, and especially when we find ourselves in a circumstance weâre not excited about: what do I need right now?

In this conversation, Jacob and Scott talk about the ways in which theyâve been navigating despair and overwhelm in recent months. For Jacob, keeping steady with his daily journaling practice has been a consistent source of grounding. For Scott, remembering to bear witness rather than become the thoughts of his despairing mind has helped create a bit more peace. The friends talk about accepting rather than resisting what is, and moving forward and creating change from this place of acceptance. As well, they remind us that we all have an inner knowing that will (if we let listen) guide us to choices and practices that are likely to serve our growth and healing.

In this conversation â the 50th episode of Hey Jacob, Hi Scott! â Jacob and Scott talk about the importance of community, and the power within each of us to create community in our lives, whether in person or online. Sometimes, when weâre in compassionate communion with others, we are most able to find our way back to ourselves. They talk about integrating rituals into our lives, especially during the times of year that tend to be most difficult. Jacob offers up some great ideas for easy rituals that can be integrated at any time. The friends speak to how difficult the holiday season can be for many, and to remember the importance of the mantra, âthis too shall pass.â Sometimes thatâs the one thing we can hold onto when weâre going through a funk.

In this conversation, Scott talks about the funk heâs been in, the loneliness heâs been feeling, and how his mind has had the reins for days and is hellbent on making him miserable. The friends talk about feeling destabilized and how difficult it can be sometimes, even if youâve got all the tools, to work your way back to a more grounded place. They discuss holding space for lifeâs many contradictions, and that truth can live in exact opposite perspectives. They talk about how, as teachers, they approach discussing the times theyâre struggling: whether to share while youâre in the midst of the struggle or to wait until you have some insights on the other side of it.

In this conversation, Jacob and Scott talk about the shift from "Can I âŠ?" (or "Why can't I ...?")to "How can IâŠ?" â and the way in which the latter question automatically assumes a yes and invites into play our creativity and imagination. They talk about conditioned responses versus authentic responses, and how one necessary component of self-growth is bringing awareness to the ways in which weâve been conditioned, followed by concrete actions that represent what is most true for us. The friends also invite us all to look at the ways in which we can integrate healing actions into our days in bite-sized increments, trusting that even five minutes of intentional action each day will add up to sizable payoffs in time.

In this conversation, Jacob and Scott take a deep dive into creating more abundance in our lives â financial, spiritual, creative, emotional, and every other type of abundance we seek to call forth. They talk about their current experiences doing the daily practices from The Abundance Book, by John Randolph Price, and how beneficial resting in the boundless energy of abundance can be for even five minutes a day. They describe their shared understanding that the Source energy within us all is the foundation and the supply for unlimited abundance, and their belief that this energy is working on our behalf. Though some of the ideas may seem a bit woo-woo, Jacob and Scott bring a clear groundedness to the topic of abundance and offer up practices that can help shift you from a scarcity to an abundant mentality.

In this conversation, nearly six weeks after their last episode, Jacob and Scott catch up on their final weeks of summer and talk about rituals for heading into the Autumn Equinox. Jacob takes us through his recent plant medicine journey in the City of Rocks in Idaho, detailing some wildly profound experiences within which are lessons for us all. The friends talk about the importance of transcending expectations and assumptions, about others and about our own lives, thereby centering us more readily in the present moment. Jacob shares some of the healing heâs created in his relationship with money and how much more available to abundance heâs become.

In this conversation, Jacob and Scott talk about what it means to hold space for others â and yourself â in an honest way, and how doing so elicits not only more depth of connection but also a more authentic and heart-centered response. They also discuss the importance of owning our hypocrisy, as Scott shares a story about his own blatant hypocrisy related to podcast reviews and ratings. They take a deep dive into their understanding of the soul, and the importance of connecting to the ever-present peacefulness of that soul-centered place within yourself, while at the same time honoring your very human humanity.

In this conversation, Jacob and Scott talk about the difference between trying to fix yourself and working to accept yourself, quirks and all. They discuss how the self-help culture makes it easy to get lost in the desire to change ourselves, when what serves us better is acknowledging who we really are, with compassion and love. They talk about the benefit of teachers, as long as they recognize the power to create healing lives within the students, and dependence upon a teacher or guru is not only unnecessary but likely harmful. The friends dive into the Enneagram a bit (as Scott tries to figure out his type) and acknowledge whether itâs with the Enneagram, astrology, Meyerâs-Briggs, or any other system of understanding oneself, the aim is to create more acceptance and healing around whatever personality traits are yours to work with. Oh, and they talk about envy and the other less desirable aspects of the human mind.
âI was a neurotic for years. I was anxious and depressed and selfish. Everyone kept telling me to change.
I resented them, and I agreed with them, and I wanted to change, but simply couldn't, no matter how hard I tried.
What hurt the most was that, like the others, my best friend kept insisting that I change. So I felt powerless and trapped.
Then, one day, he said to me, "Don't change. I love you just as you are."
Those words were music to my ears: "Don't change. Don't change. Don't change . . . I love you as you are."
I relaxed. I came alive. And suddenly I changed!
Now I know that I couldn't really change until I found someone who would love me whether I changed or not.â - Anthony DeMello

In this episode, Jacob and Scott talk about the time weâre living through as an actual apocalypse, or an âunveiling,â as the word used to be defined. They ask the question, whether we see the world as crumbling or as flourishing, who do you want to be within it? How do you want to show up in your life, no matter how life around you is showing up?
The friends talk about the overturning of Roe v Wade, how that is affecting them, and the ways in which we humans are entirely too comfortable wanting to control others when we ourselves would never want to be controlled in the same ways.
Jacob gets forceful (for him) in his plea to all of us to live into choices that create more peace and grounding in our lives. Itâs not enough to want it without doing anything to create the âitâ you want. As usual, thereâs lots of heart and many laughs throughout the conversation.

In this conversation, Jacob and Scott talk about their relationships with prayer, and how and why they use it in their lives. From there, they take a deep dive into miracles, with practical ideas about how to stay open to the possibility of and create miracles in your life. They discuss the power of listening to and acting on those internal nudges and whispers that can be easy to ignore and making a practice of asking for what youâd like to happen or receive in your life. This is an especially high-energy and uplifting conversation and one that will likely have you feeling more empowered to create the changes youâve been seeking to create.

In this conversation, Jacob and Scott talk about guns in America, the situation with endless mass shootings, and what paths, if any, there are to healing the current divide regarding gun control. They discuss how to take care of ourselves when the world feels especially brutal, and how to hold space for one anotherâs humanity when weâre in complete disagreement with their convictions. In this conversation, Jacob and Scott talk about chewing mastic gum to open your nasal passages and strengthen your jawline (yes, itâs a thing). They talk about the pressures of purpose and the liberation that comes from seeing oneâs purpose as whatever it is thatâs happening at the moment, even if thatâs only washing dishes or brushing your teeth. They discuss the importance of focusing on your inner self and inner circle when the insanity of the outside world feels especially out of control and unbearable. And they reflect on moments in their lives that completely changed their experience of this reality when it was no longer possible to see the world, or their worlds, the same way.

In this conversation, Jacob and Scott talk about what depression can look and feel like for the two of them, and what they do when theyâre feeling depressed and/or hopeless. They discuss bringing radical acceptance to the experience of being human and seeing how different life can feel when weâre not acting in a constant state of resistance to what is. The friends talk about the power of choice in our lives, and checking in with and listening to the body when it comes to making decisions. Scott ends the episode with a guided meditation that takes listeners into the love of their hearts and the peace of their souls.

In this conversation, Jacob and Scott talk about Scottâs experience with the current New Mexico wildfires and holding space for beauty within tragedy and heartbreak. The friends share their views on abortion and the cognitive dissonance we can all feel when discussing our convictions regarding controversial topics. How can we stay aligned with compassion when being confronted with the opposing views of others? We donât have to compromise our convictions in order to love people who donât share them. In this conversation, Jacob and Scott talk about empaths and highly sensitive people and the need for regular âhygieneâ in order to balance out our empathic nature. In this conversation, Jacob and Scott talk about what do to with feelings of hopelessness, and how to know, not that itâs always possible, whether youâre rooted in deep acceptance or deep denial (They can look the same.). They discuss the âcome-downâ from transformative experiences and how tricky it can be to integrate a powerful event into your day-to-day reality, and how much self-grace is necessary while doing so. The friends responded to a listenerâs question about worthiness, lack, and feeling less than, focusing on the distinctive voices of the heart, mind, and soul.
A question to consider: How would your life look and feel different if you were to accept that every single thing about you is a natural reflection of the human experience?
****
Many spiritual people are involved in a radical denial of what is happening.
They want to transcend it, get rid of it, get out of it, get away from it. Thereâs nothing wrong with that feeling, but the approach doesnât work because itâs escapism in spiritual clothing. Itâs wearing spiritual clothing and spiritual concepts, but it is really no different than a drunk in the gutter who doesnât want to feel the pain anymore. When you abide and accept everything completely, you automatically go beyond.
