  • In this week's episode, Matt and Ryan take a look at the fifth studio album by Sly and the Family Stome called There's a Riot Goin' On. Released in 1971, the album's recording was dominated by the band's frontman Sly Stone during a time of drug use and group tensions. The recording shifted away from the optimistic sound of their previous records and embraced a darker more challenging sound. The album centered its lyrically around themes of apathy and disillusionment of Sly's rise to fame and the political climate of the time. In 1999, the album was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.Check out what the guys have to say about the record. If you like the podcast, please give us a five-star rating and share it with a friend. If you have a recommendation for a future episode, email us at [email protected] Media Linkshttps://bsky.app/profile/ttheylisten.bsky.socialhttps://www.instagram.com/ttheylisten/https://www.facebook.com/ttheylistenhttps://www.threads.net/@ttheylistenRyan’s Vinyl Collectionhttps://www.discogs.com/user/rjk3168/collectionTime Stamps 00:00 Intro01:17 Last Week Recap03:21 There's A Riot Goin' On Overview09:42 Luv N' Haight15:16 Just Like A Baby20:16 Poet27:08 Family Affair 33:06 Africa Talks to You (The Asphalt Jungle)39:51 There's a Riot Goin' On 42:26 Ways To Support The Show 45:53 Brave & Strong50:27 (You Caught Me) Smilin'55:19 Time 01:00:21 Spaced Cowboy 01:06:01 Runnin' Away01:10:53 Thank You for Talkin' to Me, Africa 01:16:36 Overall Thoughts, Ratings and Next Album Recommendations 01:24:06 Next Week's Review01:26:02 Outro
