Horror Weekly Episode #316
After our monthly holiday binge, itâs time to get back to normal. Well, âNormalâ is relative with us, but you get the gist. Weâve got a very cool mix of winners and losers for you this week, With one big high, one big low, and some decent films in the middle.
Weâll start out with âWerewolves,â a fun film with a crazy premise that really goes off the logic rails. Weâll find out that âItâs Whatâs Insideâ was an overlooked gem from last year. Weâll do an indie release next, with the ridiculous âThe Yorkie Werewolfâ and then a low-budget-ish comedic creature feature, âInvisible Raptor.â Then weâll finish up with the talky sex-drama âSwap,â which pretends to be a vampire movie in the last ten minutes.
And, of course, we have more excellent short films for you!

Horror Weekly Episode #313
Weâre continuing our December of Holiday Horror with five more holiday-themed scare classics.
Weâll begin with an odd home invasion kind of story with 2020âs âHosts,â then weâll find that âThereâs Something in the Barnâ from 2023. Weâll deal with grief and isolation with âThe Melancholy Fantasticâ from 2011, then visit âThe Dorm That Dripped Bloodâ from 1982. Then weâll go way back in time to watch how âThe Curse of the Cat Peopleâ from 1944 plays out. Yes, all of these have a holiday tie-in of some sort.
And, of course, we have five excellent short films for you, although they arenât all particularly holiday-themed.

Horror Weekly Episode #312
Weâre continuing our December of Holiday Horror with five more holiday-themed scare classics. Weâll open on the hilariously low-budget, yet still somehow awesome, âCadaver Christmasâ from 2011, and then have a fancy dinner with the family in âMercy Christmasâ from 2017. Then weâll stop and go âBlack Fridayâ (2021) shopping. Weâll then travel to France to get a strange German gift in âThe Advent Calendarâ (2021). Lastly, weâll do an old classic, the 1951 version of âA Christmas Carol,â aka âScrooge.â
And, of course, we have five excellent short films for you, although they arenât particularly holiday-themed.

Horror Weekly Episode #310
Back in December 2022, we thought it would be fun to watch an entire month of Christmas and Holiday themed horror movies. It was easy, and we had a lot of fun doing it. Then, this year, we wondered⊠could we do it again? Are there even that many Christmas-themed horror movies out there? Oh Yeah. That many and more.
So this will be the first of several weeks of nothing but holiday-themed horror for you. Weâll start off with 2022âs âViolent Night,â have some fun with âSlay Bellesâ from 2018, get all paranoid with âIt Cuts Deepâ from 2020, sleep through a 2019 anthology, âDeathcember,â and then go shopping in âWhile She Was Outâ from 2008.
And, of course, we have five excellent short films for you. Not particularly holiday themed.
The latest issue of âHorror Monthlyâ is now on sale, and itâs our biggest issue yet, with 43 reviews plus a short story, this time by Brian.

Horror Weekly Issue #307
This week, weâve mostly got new films plus one weird oldie. Weâll begin with âBlack Cab,â a creepy ghost story. The indie anthology âDating Horror Storiesâ warns us how things can go wrong in relationships. Weâll next move on to the silly âCarved,â which would have been a mood-setter if weâd watched it before Halloween. âCurse of the Sin Eaterâ made us wonder if weâd try taking the deal, and âThe Funhouseâ (1981) which was surprisingly forgettable.

Podcast 300
Three hundred episodes. Plus One MORE.
When we first decided to do a podcast, we thought that one about Alfred Hitchcock's films would be fun. Partway through the second episode, we realized that he only made about 50 films, and we wanted to do something more ongoing. We decided to make more generically about horror films in general.
We chose well; with over 1700 films reviewed so far, there is no end in sightâ they just keep making more horror films, and there are still plenty of oldies that we havenât seen. There are so many new films coming out (especially this month and next) that we have to prioritize and choose among the new releases. There just arenât enough days in the week for all the terror!
But still⊠there are more things in the world than just horror. Weâve noticed that while watching our movies, we both really enjoyed the old movies a lot. Iâve even written books about them. Weâve decided that we like doing âHorror Weeklyâ so much that we want to branch out and do a more unlimited podcast about older films.
Say hello to âClassics Weekly,â a brand-new Podcast/Newsletter devoted to classic films. Our first episode, devoted to âCasablanca,â will drop sometime next week. Itâll all be very similar in format to Horror Weekly, but since itâs only one film each week, weâll be able to go more in-depth with trivia and commentary. Itâll be fun. Sign up for the newsletter or subscribe to the podcast at https://www.classicsweekly.com
Anyway, this time around, weâve got a slight focus on âhome invasionâ films. Weâd been sitting on the most recent two âThe Strangersâ films for a few weeks due to that prioritizing I mentioned, but then âSunset Supermanâ (2024) released this week, and they all just went together so well that we had to include the three films together. Weâve also got âLyviaâs House,â a tale of romance and gaslighting, as well as âMother Nocturna,â a new release about mental illness, depression, and family.
