    Dr Silke Achermann is the Director of the History of Science Museum at the University of Oxford, having been appointed in 2014 as the first female museum director at Oxford University. She is also co-founding director of the Oxford Centre for the History of Science, Medicine, and Technology and holds a Professorial Fellowship at Linacre College. In 2013 she was the first woman to be elected President of the Scientific Instrument Commission of the International Union of History and Philosophy of Science and Technology, a post she held until 2017. Ackermann is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries, a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Scientific Instrument Makers, and a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers.

    Captain Augusto Salgado graduated from the Portuguese Naval Academy in 1983. He is a Captain of the Portuguese Navy, and has a PhD in Maritime History by the Faculdade de Letras, Lisbon. He is a researcher at CINAV – PT Naval Research Centre and member of the Academia de Marinha and of the Portuguese Military History Commission. He teaches Maritime History (XVI to XX centuries) at the Portuguese Navy Academy (Escola Naval) and in post-graduated courses. His field of study is the Portuguese Naval History (mainly 16th century onward) and has published three books and several papers on this subject. In 2011 he won the award Prémio do Mar – Rei D. Carlos 2011 (Cascais). He is also a keen underwater archaeology enthusiast since 1996 and underwater photographer for over 30 years. He is the co-coordinator of the project “The U-35 operations in the Algarve” that won the National Archaeology Society (UK) award “Adopt a Wreck Award 2015” and of the Research Program – HistArC: Maritime History and Archaeology of the Conflicts.

    Farida Alhusseini is the Director of the Islamic Arts Biennale at the Diriyah Biennale Foundation (DBF). Having joined DBF in 2021, her role was instrumental in launching the inaugural edition of the Islamic Arts Biennale, which achieved a record number of visitors. She holds a BA in Social Anthropology and Middle Eastern Civilizations from the University of Toronto and an MA in Narrative Environments from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, London.

    Dr Abdul Rahman Azzam read history at Oxford where he obtained his BA and Dphil. Between 2007-2017, he worked as Director of Communications and Cultural Advisor to Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser Al-Missned, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation (QF). In 2012, he led the partnership between QF and the British Library to digitize over three million documents. He was a member of the Joint Advisory Board of Northwestern University, as well as the Qatar National Library. Previously, he was the Managing Director of The Islamic Texts Society, as well as the founder of Hood Hood Books. He is the author of Saladin: The Triumph of the Sunni Revival, The Other Exile, and The Return of Sebastian. He was Senior Expert Advisor on AlMadar ("The Orbit"), a special initiative by the Diriyah Biennale Foundation (DBF) that promotes collaboration and dialogue between institutions with significant collections of Islamic art around the world, and inaugurated at the first edition of the Islamic Arts Biennale in 2023.

    Masa Al-Kutoubi is AlMadar Lead at the DBF's Islamic Arts Biennale and brings over 15 years of experience in art advisory and consultancy, having previously served as Head of Sales and Art Specialist at Christie’s. She advises private, corporate, and government clients across the GCC on integrating art and culture into their business strategies, focusing on collections, artist patronage, and large-scale cultural initiatives. She has played key roles in major exhibitions, including Desert X AlUla 2020 and the Diriyah Contemporary Art Biennale 2022. In 2023, she led the team for the inaugural Islamic Arts Biennale, creating AlMadar (“the Orbit”), one of the seven unique components of the Islamic Arts Biennale that promotes collaboration and dialogue between institutions with significant collections of Islamic art around the world.

    His Excellency Rakan Altouq is the Vice Chairman of the Diriyah Biennale Foundation and assistant minister of culture of Saudi Arabia.

    Dr Julian Raby is a co-director of the Diriyah Islamic Art Biennale and the Director Emeritus of the National Museum of Asian Art of the Smithsonian Institution, Washington DC (formerly known as the Freer Gallery of Art and the Arthur M Sackler Gallery). He served as director of these museums from 2002 until 2017, and previously, he was a university lecturer in Islamic Art & Architecture at the University of Oxford from 1979 until 2006.
