On June 2, 2022—in front of a live audience at Temple Kol Ami in West Bloomfield,
Michigan—rabbis from three denominations discussed what the Jewish tradition tells us on key church-state separation issues, including reproductive rights and public funding of private
religious schools. The panelists were Rabbi Brent Gutmann (Reform) of Temple Kol Ami, Rabbi Asher Lopatin (Modern Orthodox) of Kehillat Etz Chayim and AJC of Detroit, and Rabbi Blair Nosanwisch (Conservative) of Adat Shalom Synagogue. Moderated by Nomi Joyrich, Michigan Coordinator of the Jews for a Secular Democracy initiative. -

New York Jews For A Secular Democracy Cohort welcomes Policy Counsel from the New York Civil Liberties Union Ali Bohm. Ali speaks on a bill requiring hospitals to disclose which services they deny based on religious preference.
We also welcome David Golvner of Yaffed who discussed the lack of access to secular education in Othordox Yeshivot.

The Legal Director and Senior Counsel at the American Humanist Association (AHA) and an Attorney Consultant at the Nonhuman Rights Project (NHRP). Monica serves as the Executive Director of the Humanist Legal Society and the Vice President of Humanist Global Charity.
- Served as lead counsel in over 30 federal cases, including before the U.S. Supreme Court, and the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Fourth, Fifth, Ninth, Tenth, and Eleventh Circuits.
- Presented oral arguments before the U.S. Supreme Court, as well as the Courts of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit (twice), Fifth Circuit, Ninth Circuit, and Eleventh Circuit.
