In this episode of 'Jokes and the Gym', Rudy Tyburczy (that's me) shares his experiences from a recent trip (to the home of the omelette - Denver), reflects on the Oscars (they were fine), family time, and the joy of reconnecting with his cats (better than the Oscars). He discusses the importance of community, the role of comedy in his life, and his journey as a personal trainer. Rudy also explores the impact of AI on creativity and invites listeners to join him in a fitness journey for season two of the podcast. Thanks for writing most of this for me, AI!

This week, I'm dusting off my tie-dye and taking you on a nostalgia trip to the Oregon Country Fair! As I've just completed this year's application for Fair, I'm reminiscing about past OCF performances ā yes, there were awkward silences and jokes about patchouli that face-planted. But that's comedy! And there's so much more to love about doing comedy in such a unique environment where you really have no idea what's going to happen.
I even get sentimental reflecting on past Fair chats with guests (from episodes 30-33) Jorah, Devin, Nitai, and Eugene. Join us for laughs, lessons, and maybe a cringe or two as my friends and I relive our Fair-est moments. It's kinda like a comedy show and a family reunion in a digital yurt. Ya know?
A couple topics we discuss are:
Practical advice
Savoring it
Experiencing what matters to you
Surrounding yourself with love
Cultivating Humility
To Grock
āThe truest form of success is inner peaceā
What does it mean to arrive?
Appreciating growth
I donāt need to arrive, Iāve been arriving everyday
cinnabon
getting tired of being comfortable
spiraling
Gene's new gooey center
Accepting things about yourself
Feeling the pain
Concretization
This will pass
What would this look like if it were fun?

Go Birds and Welcome to the podcast! In Episode 59 happening right after Sooper Bowl 59, I revisit conversations with three wonderful guests, with a guest spot from a former guest and Eagles fan Tess Barker talking about the origin and roots of her Eagles fandom.
We also chat with comics Gwen Gray, Luke Miller, and Billy Wayne Davis in an episode resembling a opener-feature-headliner comedy show, at least in theory. But in actuality it happens in your earholes or kitchen or whatever. Topics we cover are:
Not putting so much pressure on everything
Not worrying about what others are thinking
Drinking
Driving
How health impacts comedy
Being Fun for 90 or 30 minutes
When Twitter was a thing...
"Most of yall aren't depressed, you're hungover"
How Billy Wayne got healthier
Grandma Wisdom from Billy Wayne Davis
And much more!
Thanks for stoppin by and...

This week has really snuck up on me, and life keeps on lifin. And still, we podcast. We are happy to podcast, and we planned for podcast.
And in this week's podcast, we talk about the value of mentors (I even got to chat with someone whose work I've admired and learned from for a while), how scheduling and planning can be a game changer, and whether or not I'm doing much of it while filming my "Exercise of the Day" video series on TikTok and IG.
And then I revisit three guests - Dan Telfer, Kelly Brassbridge, and Sabrena Contreras! What a delight it was to listen to some of their insights and our convos this week. I hope you enjoy hearing from them. I quite did!Find me, Rudy, on ig @jokesandthegym and @rudytyburczy

And stick around to revisit parts of three wonderful conversations with Sanjay Manaktala, Isaac Paris, and Derek Sheen to hear some of what they've learned about comedy. Their answers might surprise you! Or they might not.Find me, Rudy, on ig @jokesandthegym and @rudytyburczy

What sentence did I say to change the trajectory of my entire year? And how can picking something to focus on throughout the year can give shape and meaning to otherwise arbitrary periods of time?
In this year-ender of Jokes and the Gym (53 straight weeks!!), I wax poetic about goals, gaining reflection, setting intention for the year, and other really hilarious stuff. I wonder how self-talk influences identity, ponder the notion of becoming a clean comedian, and overall just try to pump myself up for the new year. What a riot!
I also re-listen to answers from Tess Barker, Chad Sharpe, and Ben Kronberg to the question, "What advice would you give your younger comedy self?" Their answers might surprise you! Or maybe not...
I hope you enjoy this episode! I had fun making it!

This is the first of what will be a series of episodes where I compile responses to the question I ask to end each of my episodes, "What advice would you give your early comedy self?"
Hear what:
-Brian Netzel (@thebriannetzel) would tell his early comedy self to put down;
-Albert Escobedo (@albertmescobedo) has learned he doesn't need as much of;
-Leigh Anne Jasheway (accidentalcomic.com) doesn't need to focus on;
-Turner Sparks (@turnersparks) learned about what an audience wants far too late;
-Laura Sanders (@yaylaurasanders) wishes her younger self wouldn't have focused on;
-Andy Andrist (@andyandrist) wishes he knew about sticking to times;
-Adam Palmeter (@adampalmeter) thinks treading lightly would have helped him with;
-Kellen Terrett (@drterrett) and I wish for you, our listener (Mike!);
-Sam Miller (@sammillercomedian) would tell his younger self to steal to make himself good at comedy;
and
-Curt Neill (@curtneill) wished he realized so much sooner.

In this the 50th (!!) episode of Jokes and the Gym with Rudy Tyburczy, I am delighted to chat with my friend, the hilarious, the prolific, the hardest working man in his house, Kyle Kinane.
In this convo, notorious non-worker-outer Kyle asks about ways to start and maintain motivation for working out, even if you donāt have a gym membership or very much fancy equipment. Stick around to hear what no-equipment two-exercise workout routine designed to improve strength and energy piqued Kyleās interest.
And as a new cat dad, Kyle introduces us to his beautiful boys, and they even make an appearance or two that you can hear throughout. We also touch on many things comedy, making tough movie choices, and how crowdwork can be effectively used and the surprising truth about what it means to like it.

For this episode, I reflect on the amazing conversation I had with Matt Braunger recently. Matt is a hilarious comedian with multiple albums and podcasts over the years, and we had a wonderful conversation talking about comedy, how he stays healthy, and so much more!
But you won't be hearing any of it.
Because I messed up the recording. I fumbled it. When I played it back, I had not recorded any of his audio. And so we won't be listening to that conversation. Sorry about that. Instead, it's just me talking for a little while. Which is also fine. I like talking, and I talk about things I've learned throughout this year of being a podcaster and personal trainer, and the challenges of balancing being a host or a human. And there might even be a joke or two in there.
So yeah, thanks for hanging out this week, and I promise next week won't be lost to the ages! It's episode 50 - the big 5-0! - and I chat with Kyle Kinane, friend of Matt Braunger!

Jokes! Gym! Jamie! Colson!
In this engaging conversation, my fellow comedian Jamie Colson shares her experiences with pets, fitness, comedy, and hot tubs! From the challenges of cohabitating with a dog and cat to her fitness journey involving Pokemon Go, Jamie's humor comes through as she discusses her love for hot tubs and the comfort they bring.
Our conversation also touches on personal growth, learning new skills, and the culinary challenges she faces, particularly with cooking eggs. We also share a bit about our recent body swap performance, which had been a long-time goal of mine (to become someone else).
Jamie touches on the importance of motivation and structure in life, and I share some tips from previous guests on how to scaffold a bit of that into your life. Finally, Jamie dives into some of her favorite music and podcasts, highlighting how these enrich her daily experiences. We also unpack some of the nuances of perfection versus flawlessness, the impact of podcasts on our lives, and the realities of adult entertainment content.

Nathan! Hart! This conversation with Eugene comedian Nathan Hart, upon his return from more than a month on the road across the States during this wild election, was a great opportunity to hear about what brings us together more than what divides us. For Nathan, that's comedy. Hear about election night in Nashville, or Friday at The Fest in Florida, from the voice of a comic who's doing whatever he can to find opportunities to do standup.
Hear how Planet Fitness can be a haven on the road, and just what he did to stay fresh in his Subaru, which had a few rough patches of its own. From a below freezing night in Wyoming, to a stop at the Grand Canyon, Nathan was often tested in ways he didn't expect.
I hope you enjoy hearing about Nathan's trip across the States and run-ins with comedy and fitness as much as I did!

Jes Anderson is a comedian and mom and human in Seattle! I had a delightful time talking with her. She discusses the balance between her day job and comedy, her experience in a comedy competition, and the driving factors behind picking up that first mic.
A former crossfit coach and gym manager, she talks about some crossfit misconceptions, and her current relationship with the gym, which she enters three times a week and even uses a heavy piece of equipment in. She shares some of her secrets for tricking herself into exercising, and how exercise has changed for her over time.
We also touch on some comedy drama she was a part of as owner and booker of The Comedy Bar in Seattle, audience expectations, and the challenges of navigating sensitive topics. We talk about the vibrant comedy scene in Seattle, and the podcast she co-hosts with friend of the program Sam Miller, The Tarp Report, because they love tarps so much.

Hey everybody! We got another Tom Rhodes banger this week! Tom and I got cut off early last week so he offered to have another chat, even though the last one was great. What a guy. If youāre not familiar with Tom Rhodes, heās had an epic comedy career: heās hosted and starred in TV shows, toured the globe, performed on every continent (except Antarctica), and is the host of a long-running podcast (āTom Rhodes Smart Campā). Heās also a dear friend who has met my mother and with whom I share a love of Ja Rule.
In this convo (part deux!), we discuss even more of his international experiences, including the time he performed for a Saudi prince and his āharemā in the Seychelles (and the important lesson he learned about skincare on that trip).
Normally I donāt spend much time speaking with guests about politics, but we even spend some time at the intersection of comedy and politics in this chat, and Tom gives his input on a certain recent event at MSG, and why he considers (the website formerly known as) Twitter a āhate faucetā.
We explore some of the challenges and joys of international comedy and audiences, Tom shares his evolution as a comedy writer, and what he is constantly looking for in order to be able to create fresh material over the years. We also talk about a dear friend and touch on what it means to be a good friend, not only to others but to yourself, and how to continue to grow over the years.
With all the stuff going on out there, itās hard not to get down sometimes, but hopefully after listening to this conversation, you too will be saying āHooray for Humanityā!

In this conversation, I'm happy to speak with the legendary Tom Rhodes! He tours all over the globe, has a successful podcast - Tom Rhodes Smart Camp - and has had specials and albums spanning platforms and decades. Tom and I have known each other for a while, and he's always been such positive influence on me and my comedy life, and just as a friend.
Tom and I discuss his time as an international comedian, and whether that was something he set out to become or not. We also dive into what brought him to Oregon, and you might be surprised to find out what country Tom compares Oregon to. We discuss how that same heartbreak lead him to another newfound love - hot yoga, and what it has done for his mind and his body. And plenty more.
Unfortunately, our conversation gets cut a little short this week, but it really ends on a great note...and...we might even have another conversation lined up for you for next week, so stay tuned!
