As we continue our March Madness question: "what makes a great film?", we round out our Final Four this week with the final competitor: the soundtrack. Since we have already done a LMAPL of our favorite soundtracks, we switch-it-up a little and focus on songs playing during the opening or closing credits of a film that really "set the tone". There is a week to our playlist below. Thanks for listening!

With half of the field accounted for, this week we introduce competitor number three for our March Madness '25 question, "What makes a great film?", the cast and subsequent casting. Per usual, we both have different ideas about what really sets a cast apart from the competition. Jack tends to lean more toward the cast as written while Josh focuses more on the actors chosen to play the part. Josh goes for two wins in a row...

For week two of March Madness '25, we introduce the next competitor in "What Make a Great Film?": Plot. We have our own ideas about what constitutes a great plot but ultimately come to a consensus. We even have a heated discussion about the Academy along the way. Thanks for listening!

March Madness takes over the podcast this month! We have created a tournament to determine what truly makes a film great. Our first entry to make the final four, is practical effects. We talk about some of our favorite films to contain them. We both have a thing for a winner...

There are no two opposing forces that play more into shaping who we are and what we like than love and hate. In this episode, we attempt to create a playlist that best captures the essence of what defines both. Of course, we put our own spin on it, so everything is on-brand. Which one of us is in charge of love, and which one handles hate? All will be revealed in time. The E on this podcast is for explicit lyrical content.
We've included a link to the playlist below. Thanks for listening!

Blind rankings: you see them all over social media, including podcasts. This week, we join the party with our attempt to blind rank Rotten Tomatoes' best horror films of all time - with a twist. Instead of attempting to emulate THEIR list, we take the options they've given us and create our own list. How similar will the finished lists be? You might be surprised.

Controversial. Quirky. Classic. Clunky. The Sonic the Hedgehog series of video games is robust and has a past that is all over the place. This week, we look at the whole series and pick out the games we think to be the ones to play. If you've not played a game in the franchise in a minute and wonder where to start, we've done the research for you. Thanks for listening!

Our first episode was entitled "Villains!". Since then, we've covered anti-heroes and sidekicks. We decided it was time to unleash upon the world our favorite super heroes, but with a twist in the form of our newest format. What does it take to make our Rushmore of super heroes?
There's only one way to find out.

What happens when two of your favorite musical acts gets together and makes a song? Hopefully it's a good thing. In this episode, we talk through the songs that we hold as our favorite collaborative efforts between artists we know and love. With our musical taste, you know the playlist (link below) will be eclectic and epic!

In our first Assemble Your Crew of Season Three, we look at which characters, fictional and otherwise we think would be the best to build a house. This one has a great mix, and might be the best crew we've made to date!
-
In this episode, we conjure up our choices for the best spirits from another realm. One unhappy phantom appears on both lists, only in different forms. Whom from those that have gone on before will top our list?
-
We start off season three with a bang as we talk about our favorite monsters across all media. There are some standard tropes and a couple of wild cards that really make the list pop. The discussion as we get toward the top of the list gets really heated!

Season two is in the books! If you haven't listened to every episode yet, this week will let you know the top ten we think you should give a listen to. We also give a preview of some of the topics we will be covering in 2025.
Happy New Year, everyone. See you next week when we start season three!

Every year, Spotify gives us the gift of seeing what we've listened to the most every year. This week, we take the top songs on our individual top 100 playlists, and combine them together for this season's last Let's Make A (Play)List. This list is guaranteed to have a lot of bangers and to definitely be all over the place.

Many actors have played the role of Ol' Saint Nick over the years. Some are iconic, others, not so much. This week, we look at our favorite Santa's from both television and film. With the both of us involved, you can be sure our personal flair will be thrown in for good measure.

Holiday films are great and all, but what should you watch when it's "the most wonderful time of the year" and you aren't feeling the usual fare? This week we talk about the films we associate with Christmas and the holidays that have limited or no tie to the season, but fit right in.
HAPPY FIFTIETH EPISODE OF SEASON TWO TO US!

Can you believe it's already December? Since it's the holiday season, we are giving you two-for-one (play)lists this month! Starting it off right, we skip all of the well-known commercial and traditional Christmas songs, and hit you with some that you probably haven't heard before. With Josh and Jack making selections, you know it will be eclectic, irreverent, and everything in between.

Sometimes the theme makes the show. This week we discuss our favorite theme songs from episodic television. This is definitely something we will revisit in the future as it was a VERY DIFFICULT EXERCISE to only pick five songs to represent our choices.
-
Most people have done escape rooms. They're a great way to pass the time and work on "getting out" with friends or co-workers. Some of the more "extreme" escape rooms are horror-themed, and well, that fits our aesthetic, so this week we are creating a crew of characters from non-horror-themed media and real life to attempt a run and escape of said type of room. Jack and Josh both approach this exercise differently (what did you expect?). Will that work to the crew's benefit or detriment?

We spend a lot of time on this podcast talking about films with a PG-13 rating or above, but what about those with a more accessible rating? This week, we discuss what we believe to be the best animated films for the family to sit down and watch together. One franchise *may* end up with more than one entry on our combined list...but if that's the case, you know it's probably worth it!
