Peyton Corrigan, an Ecuador Fall 2017 alumna, shares her experience in the Amazon Jungle. For over 10 years, our semester, summer, and some of our study tours go into the Amazon Jungle to serve at Jungle Kids for Christ (JKC). JKC is a school that was started to help children from the Amazon Jungle break the cycle of abuse, addiction, and one-parent family homes (sometimes absent parents). The education; and more importantly the gospel taught at JKC impacts each child's future. Each year, JKC serves approximately 250 children ranging from pre-K through high school students. The jungle missions trip is an integral part of our Ecuador program and leaves an imprint on each of our student's hearts. For more information on JKC visit their website here: junglekidsforchrist.org

Join us as we speak with Dr. Micah Hughes about the newest Living and Learning program: Baltimore Urban Studies. Affectionately known as the âBUS,â this experiential learning program is designed to teach, mentor, and train college students in spiritual formation and public health while providing urban global health internships. Baltimore is a dynamic and culturally rich city that represents the tension of the intersection between historic abandonment and revitalization.
The foundation of the BUS began twenty years ago at Wheaton College in Illinois. Starting in 2001, BUS co-directors Dr. Micah Hughes and Rev Danté Upshaw had the privilege of working together to encourage, equip, and challenge students to engage in global urban learning.
In this conversation, youâll hear more about this backstory and how it has informed the program today. As the Academic Director, Micah will also give us a helpful overview of the college courses offered during this experiential âstudy awayâ semester.
Learn more about the BUS on our website and on Instagram at @baltimore.urban.studies

We value discipleship at Living & Learning and have made it a priority to incorporate it into each of our programs.
One way we integrate discipleship is through the Resident Coordinator position. Our Resident Coordinators disciple students throughout the semester by meeting and building relationships with the students. The L&LI Resident Coordinators listen to, care for, and mentor students as they experience a new culture and context. Christina Garibay (aka CK), worked as a Resident Coordinator in Ecuador for three years. CK talks about how discipleship happens and the ways that students are impacted during the semester.
