Georgiana Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire, was one of the first modern celebrities. If she lived today, she would have millions of social media followers and probably her own fashion line or fragrance. As well as being a leader of society, she was also a talented political operator and extremely intelligent, with an interest in chemistry and mineralogy that was unusual for women of her time and class. On the surface, she had it all: looks, money, title - but in reality she was often stressed and unhappy.

This is the ‘minisode’ - ideal if you don’t feel like listening to the full length version. Athelflaed was a fascinating woman who lived in late 9th Century England. Her father Alfred the Great and her nephew Athelstan get much of the credit for the foundation of the nation of England, however Athelflaed also played an important role in this.
