There was little doubt about the excitement in the building as the New York Giants erupted and knocked off the Colts, 45-33, to grab their first home win of the season in their MetLife Stadium finale.
We'll examine several factors that caused this outburst and consider how these factors can be valued moving forward.
One thing the team knows for sure is that they'll need to upgrade their starting quarterback position next year. What avenues might they try? And what are their other priorities as they face Philadelphia before starting the offseason?

Drew Lock directed a most unexpected explosion that ended the New York Giants' team-record 10-game slide in a 45-33 win over the Colts. He became the first QB in franchise history to throw for 300+ yards and four TDs and running for a touchdown.
The sixth-year pro finished 17-of-23 for 309 yards in a career-best performance. He wasn't sacked and hit only once behind the team's ninth starting offensive line configuration of the season.
Malik Nabers caught seven passes for 171 yards and two TDs, allowing him to eclipse 100 receptions and 1,000 yards as a rookie. He and RB Tyrone Tracy became the third rookie duo in league history to each post 1,000 yards from scrimmage in a season.
The Giants (3-13) earned their first home victory of the season after losing in their first eight tries.

How can the New York Giants avoid going winless at home for only the second time in their history? The 1974 squad (2-12) finished 0-7 during its second and final season at the Yale Bowl, their first temporary home while Giants Stadium was being built.
QB Drew Lock will make his second consecutive start after he was cleared to play with a sore shoulder that prompted him to undergo an MRI. WR Malik Nabers (toe/hip) missed practice again, and his status has been cloudy going into Sunday's game against the Indianapolis Colts (7-8).
The Giants (2-13) must contend with the NFL's eighth-ranked rushing attack, led by Jonathan Taylor (1,129 yards, 8 TDs) and QB Anthony Richardson (499 yards, 6 TDs). Richardson has completed just 48% of these throws with eight TDs and 12 INTs. The Colts go into the weekend requiring losses by the Chargers and Broncos (both play Saturday) to remain alive in the AFC playoff picture.
Paul Dottino analyzes the matchup's significant battles in the latest Big Blue Breakdown podcast episode.

A day that started well for the New York Giants ended with them losing a team-record 10th straight game. What twists and turns sealed their fate, and how did they somehow cough up an early lead?
They couldn't even find a way to deal with prosperity. The New York Giants opened the scoring with a 70-yard touchdown drive, then allowed 34 consecutive points in suffering a team-record 10th straight loss, 34-7, in Atlanta.
Jessie Bates and Matthew Judon each returned an interception for a TD in support of rookie quarterback Michael Penix Jr. as the Falcons (8-7) kept their playoff hopes alive.
Late in the second quarter, quarterback Drew Lock fumbled on a strip-sack near midfield as the Giants (2-13) tried to overcome a 17-7 deficit.
Malik Nabers finished with seven catches for 68 yards and set the team's single-season rookie mark with 97 receptions - Saquan Barkley (2018) and Odell Beckham Jr. (2014) each snared 91. Nabers has 969 receiving yards.

What can the New York Giants do to avoid setting a club record with a tenth straight defeat while playing spoiler against Atlanta, which is still hunting a playoff bid?
They will do their best to rattle rookie quarterback Micheal Penix Jr., who is making his first NFL start as the replacement for benched veteran Kirk Cousins.
The first-round pick is expected to lean on the powerful running duo of Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier while not losing sight of highly productive wide receiver Drake London.
Giants quarterback Tommy DeVito entered concussion protocol during last weekend's loss to Baltimore. So Drew Lock will begin his second tenure as the starter after his first chance was shortened by heel and elbow injuries.
Paul Dottino analyzes the matchup's significant battles in the latest Big Blue Breakdown podcast episode.

A Giant Issue: Cut the Cancer Out
Coach Gene Clemons is back discussing the new rumors that it may be either Joe Schoen or Brian Daboll that could be fired at the end of the season but not necessarily both. He discusses why he feels that would be a mistake. He also talks about how the performance of Michael Penix Jr. has no bearing on Joe Schoen based on the team actively trying to lose.

The New York Giants are taking a franchise record nine-game losing streak on the road to Atlanta. How can they turn things around against rookie QB Michael Penix Jr., who will make his first NFL start? Will Brian Burns and Co. make sure he remembers this game as a loss?
New York Giants QB Drew Lock has recovered from a sore heel and elbow, allowing him to regain the starting job from Tommy DeVito, who is progressing through the NFL's concussion protocol.
Lock's performance has been mixed thus far, although the team has lost both of his starts (part of the current nine-game slide). He may succeed against the Falcons, who have allowed 27 TD passes - the fourth-most in the league.
Lock remains one of several players on the depth chart trying to enhance their value going into the offseason. Who are the others, and what must they show?

The New York Giants simply were undermanned and Lamar Jackson made them pay by throwing for 290 yards and five touchdowns as Baltimore rolled to a 35-14 victory at MetLife Stadium.
So that's the Giants' ninth straight loss, tying a franchise record, as they fell to 0-8 at home.
For all practical purposes, the Ravens seized control of the game on a nine-play, 80-yard drive, capped by Jackson's 20-yard TD pass to Rashod Bateman to grab a 21-7 lead with 32 seconds left in the first half.
Giants rookie Malik Nabers caught 10 passes for 82 yards, including a 23-yard score in the fourth quarter - his fourth touchdown and his first since Week 3 in Cleveland. He made a crafty adjustment on the hurried pass from Tim Boyle, who took over for starter Tommy DeVito (concussion protocol) just before halftime.

Perhaps the injury-riddled New York Giants could stock their sideline with cans of Popeye's spinach ... unless anyone has a better idea as they try to snap their eight-game losing streak.
New York (2-11) has never lost more than nine straight games during an NFL season. The Baltimore Ravens (8-5) are coming off a bye, refocused after dropping two of their last three games and somewhat bruising their aspirations of a deep postseason run.
Giants quarterback Tommy DeVito, in for the injured Drew Lock, will try to take advantage of the league's lowest-ranked passing defense while being mindful that playing keep-away from Baltimore's high-scoring offense (third in the NFL) led by QB Lamar Jackson and RB Derrick Henry.
Paul Dottino breaks down the significant battles within the matchup in the latest episode of “Big Blue Breakdown” podcast.

Another week and another injury-riddled lineup. This is starting to become the norm for the New York Giants as they enter the final month of their season.
Quarterback Drew Lock, who started the past two games, has been fitted with a boot and will be no higher than the backup to Tommy DeVito - who yielded the ball after one start because of a sore throwing forearm - for Sunday's home game against Baltimore.
What can DeVito do with his second chance to start this year to help his cause going into the offseason? Who else can improve their stock against one of the NFL's top contenders? The Giants finished last week's game with half of their expected starting lineup unavailable because of injuries, which means the opportunities are aplenty.
Big Blue Breakdown host Paul Dottino responds to fans' questions and comments.

A Giant Issue: Oh GaNo!
The New York Giants were really close to pulling off a win that would have sent the fanbase, media, and content creators into a contradictory tailspin. Coach Gene Clemons discusses that, gives props to the fact that the team is still fighting, and talks about why the team should look at Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll as a package deal.

Saints defensive lineman Bryan Bresee blocked Graham Gano's 35-yard field goal attempt with 11 seconds remaining to send the New York Giants to their eighth consecutive defeat, 14-11, at MetLife Stadium.
The Giants (2-11) were flagged 12 times for 112 yards, including a second-quarter holding penalty that wiped out Ihmir Smith-Marsette's 56-yard punt return for a TD and an unnecessary roughness flag that erased a 48-yard field goal early in the fourth.
Quarterback Drew Lock, making his second straight start, rallied the Giants into scoring position three times in the final quarter but settled for Tyrone Tracy's 1-yard TD plunge and conversion pass to Malik Nabers to make it a three-point game with 4:11 left.
Big Blue Breakdown host Paul Dottino examines the ups and downs of Big Blue's performance.

A Giant Issue: This Is What The Money Is For!
Coach Gene Clemons discusses the massive amount of critical players that are on the injury report. He warns fans not to be mad because this is what they need to do to secure the first pick. He also explains that this is why the team pays backup quarterbacks good money and this is why Lock is being paid so people should not feel bad for him.

Who do the New York Giants need to step up if they are going to end their seven-game losing streak? Which units have an advantage against the Saints, another team that has been put through the grinder this season?
Quarterback Drew Lock will have another chance to enhance his value to the New York Giants (2-10) when he makes his second straight start on Sunday against the visiting New Orleans Saints (4-8).
Both teams have struggled this season, the Giants having lost seven straight, a number mirrored earlier by the Saints before they knocked off Atlanta on Nov. 19. If that's not enough, several key starters on both sides will be missing because of injuries.
All-Pro defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence II (elbow), the anchor of the Giants' defensive line is out for the season. Fellow defenders Rakeem Nunez-Roches, Bobby Okereke, and Deonte Banks are banged up and have been declared out of the game.
The Saints are without three of their four top players on offense: receivers Chris Olave (concussion) and Rashid Shaheed (knee surgery) and TE/utilityman Taysom Hill (knee).
Paul Dottino breaks down all these questions in the latest episode of “Big Blue Breakdown” podcast.

The New York Giants say they have plenty of fight left in them despite going into this weekend's game against the Saints. Which players have the most to gain, and what do they have to show the coaching staff?
Drew Lock will make his second consecutive start at quarterback for the New York Giants, partially because Tommy DeVito is still rehabbing a sore throwing forearm. Lock already took a small step forward in the loss to Dallas; what does he have to prove against New Orleans to keep building his case as part of the team's future?
Coach Brian Daboll said he wants to see how Lock—who is on a one-year contract—performs with a full week of regular practice under his belt, understanding that the veteran was only able to participate in a walk-through the day before the team flew to face the Cowboys.
Daboll is also expected to get a lengthy look at several backups now that the injury bug has affected a few positions on both offense and defense.
Big Blue Breakdown host Paul Dottino looks at the latest Giants happenings and their potential impact.
