Plug in, charge up, connect, download, et cetera - it's time to get technological.
NO ENCORE hacks into the mainframe to deliver a veritable information superhighway of music that deals with the positive and negative impacts of technology on us mere mortals.
It's the Top 5 brainchild of Tandem Felix avatar David Tapley, who makes his much-welcome return to the show. Dave Hanratty and Sonic Architect Adam are also present, because surely no artificial intelligence program could ever replace them. At least we hope it couldn't.
Plenty to discuss in the news this week, too, including the latest 'Best Irish Songs Ever' list, Tapley's impending trip to the Aviva Stadium to see Taylor Swift, and the loudest gig we didn't attend.
Don't forget, you can get this and every new NO ENCORE episode 24 hours early and ad-free, AND additional bonus audio content by signing up to Patreon.com/NOENCORE.
ACT ONE (6:49): Shifty Shellshock RIP, Rammstein travel across Dublin, the Irish Independent provokes list-based frustration, Taylor Swift makes further headlines that we somehow cannot ignore, and M.I.A. gets into the conspiracy theory fashion game - it's the news.

This month, Sonic Architect Adam returns to normal recording proceedings and welcomes Molly King to the studio. Molly is the head of development for Other Voices, an annual music festival that takes place in Dingle, County Kerry every winter, bringing together some of the world's biggest acts, as well as the finest Ireland has to offer for a weekend of very special live performances across their Music Trail. The most notable location for these performances is Saint James' Church, which has played host to acts such as Hozier, Kae Tempest, Amy Winehouse, Mark Lanegan, Conor Oberst, Kodaline, Griff, Dermot Kennedy, Fontaines D.C., The National and many, many more. Almost all of their performances and live streams are on their YouTube channel at the link below.
In this episode, Adam and Molly discuss the challenges of running a festival, how the re-brand came about and what it represents now, as well as some of Molly's fondest memories in Other Voices over the years, and both of their thoughts on why Other Voices is so highly-regarded not just in Ireland but worldwide as an annual must-attend event.

NO ENCORE returns bring an opposing approach to a pandemic-era Top 5 with a list of cover songs that for whatever reason have eclipsed their original form, and who better to join take you on this voyage than your faithful host Dave Hanratty, trusty Sonic Architect Adam, and reigning NE Quiz Champion Zara Hedderman.
Listeners of the show will know Zara best for her aforementioned accolade, or for her freelance writing on Pitchfork and The Guardian amongst others, or from her regular appearances on RTÉ's Arena (sometimes alongside Dave, much to her chagrin).
On this episode, however, she brings with her a list of her favourite re-imaginings of songs and will take us through what makes them better than their past form.
And if that's not enough of a hook for the episode, there's some ABSOLUTE FILTH in the news section.
Don't forget, you can get this and every new NO ENCORE episode 24 hours early and ad-free, AND additional bonus audio content by signing up to Patreon.com/NOENCORE.
ACT ONE (6:17): Joe Alwyn opens up on the Taylor Swift break-up, Scooter Braun rides off into the sunset of retirement from talent management, a new study shows how our playlist decisions affect how people perform in the bedroom, Guns N' Roses axe-man Duff McKagan asserts his influence on a cartoon heavyweight, and Zara finally turns the quiz tables on Dave - it's the news.

NO ENCORE smashes it straight into the top corner this week by handing the coveted co-host debut cap to Fernando Torres enthusiast Carl Kinsella.
You may know Carl from his former work at JOE, or his current 'Surrealing in the Years' column at The Journal. You may know him from Twitter. You may simply know him as a friend.
In any case, former colleague Dave Hanratty and new friend Sonic Architect Adam are delighted to bring Carl off the training pitch and into your hearts for a proper football special in honour of EURO 2024 kicking off.
On this episode, Carl navigates a timeline of his personal relationship with the beautiful game and music itself, as he details the songs that we may not necessarily associate with football, yet have nonetheless made a lasting tactical impact on his life.

ACT ONE (8:56): A busy news round-up takes in casting rumours for the Beatles movies, Kate Hudson's bid for rock biopic glory, Kneecap-related controversy, Ray J getting strangely philosophical, Ed Sheeran's big statement, and a stark warning from Daniel O'Donnell.

This month, Sonic Architect Adam logs into Zoom for the first time in what feels like a lifetime to connect with Joe Furlong, bassist and musical director to stars such as Sorcha Richardson, James Vincent McMorrow, the star-studded Turning Pirate gigs that you may remember from Vicar Street, and now Hibernacle, a musical collaboration retreat-come-festival that celebrates the finest the country has to offer.
In this episode you'll hear Joe and Adam discuss what large-scale touring is like and how to deal with the change in lifestyle post-tour, what it takes to become a musical director and how Joe's move to Berlin in recent years has (or hasn't) effected his work, among many other topics.

Well if it isn't our old friend, the LEITMOTIF.
Kind of amazing we haven't done this one before so fair play to debuting guest co-host Seán Connolly - a man you may know from online broadcasting behemoth The TRY Channel, where he puts in a Herculean shift both in front of and behind the camera - for suggesting it.
But what is a leitmotif? Why, it's a musical theme associated with a character in media such as films, television, and video games, of course. As such, the boys duel it out accordingly, shouting out their favourite individual pop culture signatures from the rooftops.
Beforehand, a busy news section awaits. Also waiting for you - our latest episode of the NO ENCORE Album Club. Head on over to Patreon.com/noencore to sign up and listen.
ACT ONE (3:03): Steve Albini RIP, Kendrick vs Drake goes into overdrive, Macklemore continues to be a hero, and the 'Bambie Thug and Eurovision' debate finally arrives at its inevitable conclusion - it's the news.

Join us for the final pre-summer edition of Before The ENCORE, where we aim to direct sunshine in the form of music industry conversations straight into your ears so you can put on the sunglasses of knowledge and wear them with pride.
This month, Sonic Architect Adam is joined by producer and violinist formerly based in Dublin, now London, Molly Mansukhani. You might be familiar with her work alongside Kayleigh Noble, JaXson, Tara Devi, V-Sensei or from her time spent in Diffusion Lab as an intern under former-guest Chris Bubenzer before going freelance.
In this episode, Adam and Molly talk about what it is to be a producer, the skills involved, the highlights, the learnings and the many twists and turns they both had to take before realising that production was the final destination, as well as a chance meeting at the RTÉ Choice Music Prize just gone that catalysed this recording.

NO ENCORE is back with a trip into the world of music-themed fakery... in the form of real songs written for fictional purposes.
'Solo artist of the written word' Sarah McKenna Barry joins Dave and Adam this week, with songs and musical numbers penned exclusively to reside in the world of film and TV on the agenda.
And, following on from our Taylor Swift bonus episode, there's still no escaping music's newest billionaire.

It's a special bonus episode of NO ENCORE in honour of Taylor Swift releasing 11th studio album The Tortured Poets Department and everyone having an online meltdown about it.
One such major talking point emerged via American publication Paste Magazine, which opted to withhold the name of the writer when publishing its review of The Tortured Poets Department.
The move provoked a lively reaction and a lot of debate, from critics, commentators, and hardcore Swifties alike.
On this episode, Dave Hanratty speaks with Paste's Music Editor Matt Mitchell to learn about what went into the decision-making process, and hear Matt's take on the state of music criticism in 2024, particularly with regard to the online hardcore fan bases that seek to police it.
Dave also sits down with Clare Martin, Assistant Comedy Editor at Paste, who reviewed Taylor Swift's Lover album in 2019 and subsequently received threats of violence because of it. Clare reflects on her experience, and gives her thoughts on Paste's call to anonymise their latest critique of the biggest name in music today.

NO ENCORE goes Hollywood once more as Dave Hanratty and Sonic Architect Adam go to the cinemathèque, take in the previews, and then leave before the film starts.
It's a celebration of the most arresting needle drops featured in movie trailers - blockbuster events and arthouse affairs inclusive.
Elsewhere, a quiet week leads to a pretty one-sided news section. At least Dave now knows how to correctly pronounce 'Coachella', if nothing else...

Cody Rhodes may have finished his story, but it's a fresh chapter in the NO ENCORE saga this week as 'The Donegal Dynamo' Hugh Carr makes his podcast return.
Hugh is just back from a trip to Philadelphia - the "best week of his life", apparently - where he took in many live professional wrestling shows, including the Granddaddy of Them All, the Showcase of the Immortals; WrestleMania.
In that infectious spirit, this week's Top 5 concerns the history of that humble grappling event, specifically the many live music performances that have taken place under its stadium-sized roof. And oh boy, have there been some shockers.
We tasked Hugh with giving us a mix of the good and the bad, but it seems that only the most headline-making terrible ones came to his mind. Enjoy?
Hit up our Patreon for exclusive access to bonus content including the debut episode of the NO ENCORE Album Club, out now!
ACT ONE (5:35): Dave gives his verdict on the new Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross film score, J. Cole loses all credibility in record time, Chechnya has a speeding problem, St. Vincent makes a valid point, The Libertines and The Doors finally unite kinda-sorta, and can we stop being weird about Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson? It's this week's music news.
ACT TWO (52:35): Hugh recaps his Philly jaunt, before laying the smack down on his Top 5 Bad WrestleMania Music Performances.
