Retailers are getting swept into the black vortex that are tariff headlines from the Trump administration. Big names such as Walmart (WMT), Target (TGT), Gap (GAP), and Abercrombie & Fitch (ANF) have warned about the impact of tariffs this year on profits. In the meantime, shoppers are growing concerned about what they will be paying for spring and summer apparel once tariffs kick in. The reality is that consumers may resist the higher prices, sending retailers off to offer profit-busting discounts and earnings warnings. Luxury goods companies are by no means immune to the challenges as their results have been powered by international shoppers and a wealthy class feasting on strong stock market gains (until now). Is there any reason to be optimistic about the sector? Yahoo Finance Executive Editor Brian Sozzi sits down on the Opening Bid podcast with noted fashion designer Rebecca Minkoff for her perspective on the state of retail. Minkoff created her company from the ground floor in the mid-2000s and has seen some of the highest of the highs and lowest of the lows in retail. Minkoff is also the author of the new book Fearless: The New Rules for Unlocking Creativity, Courage, and Success, where she aims to impart leadership wisdom to the next generation of female entrepreneurs.

Sometimes figuring out the best way to invest your money is to look back at your mistakes and those of others. The reality is there is no one person that could accurately pick winning stocks day in and day out, or even over time. That may not be the vibe you hear in certain areas of investing such as on X or TikTok, or in the financial blogosphere. Investing remains tough, with so much information coming at you literally around the clock. The only way to get better is to be disciplined and live in a constant state of learning. Do those things, and you may have a better-than-average chance at wealth-building success. Yahoo Finance Executive Editor Brian Sozzi sits down on the Opening Bid podcast with money manager and longtime financial blogger Barry Ritholtz to discuss his new book called: How Not to Invest: The Ideas, Numbers and Behaviors That Destroy Wealth – and How to Avoid Them. Ritholtz is the co-founder and chairman of Ritholtz Wealth Management and has seen his fair share of investing mistakes over decades. In many cases, he has written about them on his blog as if to chronicle history’s biggest investing mistakes. The two discuss his new book and the biggest issues facing markets right now.

Many mall-based retailers are struggling amid the shift to online shopping. Build-a-Bear (BBW), founded in 1997, isn't one of them. The retailer is making money, opening new stores, and has seen its stock price surge 2,200% in the past five years. So what’s the company’s secret ingredient? Yahoo Finance Executive Editor Brian Sozzi sits down on the Opening Bid podcast with Build-a-Bear CEO Sharon Price John. John has been one of the longest-serving CEOs of a public company, leading Build-a-Bear since 2013. During that stretch, she has pushed the mall-based retail chain to close to 600 locations worldwide. The company is doubling down on international store openings and innovative new stuffed animals. Despite the efforts, the company could see its profits clipped by the Trump administration’s tariffs. Build-a-Bear gets close to 50% of its costs of goods sold from China. Will the toymaker be forced to jack up prices on cash-strapped consumers? John shares her perspective.

Tariffs, inflation and recession fears and slowing economic data have dominated investor attention in March. And all of these topics could dominate the minds of investors come April, too! Yahoo Finance executive editor Brian Sozzi sits down on the Opening Bid podcast with IBM (IBM) vice chairman Gary Cohn. Cohn served as the director of the National Economic Council during the first Trump administration. The former top executive at Goldman Sachs is seen as a key bridge between the current Trump administration and Wall Street. Cohn hasn’t hidden his differing view on tariffs compared to Trump, believing tariffs are a form of tax that cause inflation. Cohn weighs in on the potential economic impact of reciprocal tariffs on Trump’s self proclaimed April 2 ‘Liberation Day’, and if the country is moving closer to a recession. Given his view on AI from his work for IBM, Cohn also shares perspective on the tech space as important stocks such as Nvidia (NVDA) trade under pressure.

Nvidia (NVDA) CEO Jensen Huang has had a month, as one would say. He provided more details on powerful new AI chips, such as Blackwell Ultra and Vera Rubin at its big annual GTC conference, chips that could help take civilization to a whole other level of productivity. At the same time, he moved to alter the narrative that DeepSeek's advances in AI equaled bad news for demand for Nvidia's chips. And to top it all off, he held a meeting with top quantum computing CEOs to make peace after sending the sector reeling earlier this year. Despite the flurry of headlines, Nvidia’s stock is still going in reverse. In fact, the stock has been lagging for the entire year. What gives? Yahoo Finance executive editor Brian Sozzi talks with BofA semiconductor analyst Vivek Arya about what’s weighing on Nvidia’s super hot stock, and why. Arya attended GTC and shares his firsthand account on what he learned on the ground. Arya is also fresh off upgrading shares of ailing chip-maker Intel (INTC) amid the appointment of a new CEO in Lip-Bu Tan. Sozzi and Arya discuss that big call and the state of the semiconductor industry.

Much has been said about Chipotle (CMG) and Starbucks (SBUX) in restaurant circles over the past year. Chipotle finds itself with a new CEO in Scott Boatwright, who is looking to ramp store growth to a new level. And as he said on Yahoo Finance’s Opening Bid podcast, possibly bring more robots into its kitchens!

Nvidia had a little bit of everything for investors at its annual GTC event on Tuesday afternoon. For one, there was great theater such as CEO Jensen Huang donning his trademark black leather jacket while giving out t-shirts from a t-shirt blaster. There were also a lot of large numbers tossed around, especially a prediction of the AI infrastructure buildout reaching $1 trillion by 2028. The company even took the wraps off a host of more powerful chips to hit the market in the next few years in Blackwell Ultra and Rubin. Yet, Nvidia’s stock declined 2% by the close of trading despite what was a reaffirmation of the Nvidia growth story. So what gives here with the world’s most important stock? Yahoo Finance executive editor Brian Sozzi sits down on the Opening Bid podcast with EMJ Capital founder Eric Jackson. Jackson shares his latest thinking on Nvidia and whether the bull run is poised to return…and when.

The stock market has broken down this month as investors digest tariff and recession fears. Some of the most popular stocks such as Nvidia, Palantir and Tesla have cratered. Crypto has lost its post Trump election bid. And safe-haven stocks like healthcare have performed well. When stability will return to these top momentum names is unclear. Yahoo Finance executive editor Brian Sozzi talks with EvercoreISI technical strategist Rich Ross. Ross has more than 30 years experience in studying the deepest areas of the market from a technical perspective. This experience is poised to pay off for Ross as he aims to dissect opportunities for the firm’s clients amidst March’s tariff-driven sell-off. He shares with Sozzi some of his top trading ideas from the rubble and provides good rules of thumb for chart watchers.

More than two months into the year, one thing is abundantly clear: the Trump administration is going to make things very interesting for investors the next four years. Team Trump has wasted no time slapping additional tariffs on China, and likely new ones soon on Canada and Mexico. Levies on the European Union could be next. The tariff barrage has consumers growing concerned about higher prices for goods and services. Markets are worried about the impact to Corporate America. This as geopolitical risk to stocks is elevated amid an uncertain conclusion to the Ukraine/Russia war. A government shutdown is a real possibility soon, too. Yahoo Finance executive editor Brian Sozzi sits down on the Opening Bid podcast with one of the most prominent names in government, Republican Senator from Texas Ted Cruz. Cruz sits at the intersection of many of these issues. Texas is a major trader partner with Mexico and Canada. He has led one of the fastest growing states in the country in part because of big tech expansions. Cruz weighs in on the Trump administration’s policies and shares his economic outlook.

Markets are having a terrible year, there is no other way to hide it. Once hot tech stocks like Tesla (TSLA) have turned into laggards and investors have rotated into defensive names in the healthcare and consumer staples space. Yahoo Finance Executive Editor Brian Sozzi talks with Edward Jones CEO Penny Pennington. Pennington joined Edward Jones as a financial advisor in 2000 just before the tech stock meltdown, rising the ranks to lead the financial services giant in 2019. It’s a critical time to be a leader atop a giant wealth manager. For starters, the new Trump administration has injected major volatility into all sorts of markets around the world. Stocks in the US have cratered, especially momentum names such as Nvidia (NVDA) and Palantir (PLTR). At the same time, baby boomers are reaching retirement age each day. That brings with it a host of new challenges from planning for post-work investing to transferring wealth to offspring. Pennington shares her perspective on these huge drivers of the wealth management industry.

Tariffs stand to hammer the profits of many consumer products companies in 2025. Execs at these companies are actively moving production out of China and into other Asian regions to contain costs. But the hit to profits from tariffs will be felt no matter what for companies that already have slim profit margins. Yahoo Finance executive editor Brian Sozzi chats with Newell Brands CEO Chris Peterson. Peterson has been hard at work since taking over as CEO in 2023 restructuring the consumer products giant, which makes everything from Rubbermaid food containers to Graco baby carriages. A lot of the work by Peterson is coming under the spotlight as president Trump aims to slap Mexico, Canada and China with tariffs. Newell Brands has been moving production back to the US from China. It has one of the largest US manufacturing footprints amongst its competitors. Still, tariffs are likely to weigh on the company’s profit margins as it continues to do a chunk of business in China and Mexico. This as the lower income consumer that buys a lot of its products are being more cautious in their spending after years of inflation.

The 2025 Toy Fair has come and gone from New York City. The annual event where toymakers show off their latest innovations for the year ahead saw several fun releases: Lego dropped a new Bluey set, Mattel (MAT) has gone all in on Masters of the Universe, and Hasbro (HAS) has released new interchangeable Nerf blasters. The event is set against the backdrop of tariffs from President Trump on China, which could hammer toymaker profits this year. So, how bad a hit are investors looking at here? Brian Sozzi sits down on the Opening Bid podcast with Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks. The Street gave Hasbro high marks recently for aggressive cost-cutting, which has more room to go — the company aims to slash $1 billion in costs by 2027. Its previous goal was $750 million. But Trump's tariffs could reduce American consumers' spending power by $46 billion to $78 billion every year they are in place, estimates the National Retail Federation (NRF). Nearly 80% of US toys are manufactured in China, according to industry trade group the Toy Association. Cocks shares how Hasbro plans to navigate tariffs and a growing cautiousness among consumers.

Nvidia mania has returned to markets. Shares of the $3.2 trillion market cap chipmaker reversed losses and were up nearly 3% in early trading on Thursday as investors digested a host of Nvidia earnings headlines. In its earnings release on Wednesday evening, Nvidia said it expects gross profit margins of 70.6% to 71% in the first quarter as it contends with the production ramp-up of its new Blackwell chip. That initially drove concern in the markets about peak AI demand, and perhaps peak Nvidia hype. Nvidia execs sought to push back on the bears on its earnings call. "We're going to have to continue to scale as demand is quite high, and customers are anxious and impatient to get their Blackwell systems," Nvidia founder and CEO Jensen Huang said. Huang teased several new powerful chips set to be unveiled at the company's March 17 GTC conference. In a special Nvidia themed episode of Opening Bid, Yahoo Finance executive editor Brian Sozzi sits with EMJ Capital founder Eric Jackson and a16z general Partner Anjney Midha to dive into multiple areas of Nvidia. Jackson shares his views on Nvidia as a trade, while Midha unveiled a powerful force likely to drive Nvidia’s business for the next decade.

Robinhood (HOOD) has been on one of the more blistering paces of innovation from the fintech space the last twelve months. The overarching goal? Make the platform way more than a place for a 22-year-old to trade GameStop. Think of a one-stop shop for stocks, crypto, retirement, and even credit cards. Brian Sozzi sits down on the Opening Bid podcast with the person leading the charge at Robinhood on these fronts, co-founder and CEO Vlad Tenev. The company has expanded into event contracts with a successful debut for the election — although efforts to wade into the Super Bowl were frowned upon by lawmakers. In January, the platform provider debuted futures and index options trading. The company has since released Robinhood Legend, billed as a sleeker platform that targets more sophisticated traders. Robinhood Legend allows up to eight charts open in a single window, and it could elevate various technical indicators such as Bollinger Bands. This as the Trump administration eyes stablecoin frameworks this year and explores the potential of a bitcoin reserve — both of which could be major tailwinds to Robinhood and competitors such as Coinbase.

Nvidia earnings are coming in just a few short days, and you can feel the anticipation in the markets. If Nvidia can issue upbeat guidance, it could go a long way to shaking off DeepSeek concerns that rocked the market a few weeks ago. The market has taken a few punches this month in the form of non-stop headlines from the Trump administration. Concerns about policy chaos and tariffs has some investors wondering if the froth in the market needs to simmer down before putting new money to work. Yahoo Finance Executive Editor Brian Sozzi sits down on the Opening Bid podcast with Russell Investments president and CIO Kate El-Hillow. Russell Investments has more than $330 billion in assets under management. El-Hillow thinks the AI trade remains one of the better ones to bet on, but there are other ways to do so besides current trending names. While the AI trades have remained generally solid in 2025, they have fluctuated at times amid rising concerns about Trump tariffs. El-Hillow says tariff risk is a real risk to markets and the bottom lines of companies. And what ends up happening with tariffs could influence the Federal Reserve, which, of course, will have ramifications for investors.

Bausch + Lomb said this month it had explored taking the company private with a third-party buyer. No deal was reached as a consortium of private equity firms TPG and Blackstone reportedly backed out. Bausch + Lomb (BLCO) said it would not pursue a transaction at this time. But it reiterated a view that a full separation from Bausch Health Companies (BHC) is still the goal. Bausch Health Companies owns 88.4% of Bausch + Lomb. So what’s next for the the healthcare icon? Yahoo Finance Executive Editor Brian Sozzi chats with Bausch + Lomb chairman and CEO Brent Saunders. Saunders is known as one of the biggest dealmakers in the pharmaceutical industry of the past 15 years. Saunders returned to Bausch + Lomb as CEO in March 2023. In May 2013, he was also the CEO of Bausch + Lomb, responsible for its $8.7 billion sale to Valeant Pharmaceuticals. He then took over as the CEO of Forest Laboratories. By February 2014, Saunders orchestrated a sale of the company to Actavis for $25 billion. He assumed the CEO position. From there in November 2014, he pulled off a $70 billion acquisition of Allergan and became its CEO. It's there where Saunders' star quickly rose in media circles, overseeing the commercial success of botox and doing battle with feared activist investor Carl Icahn. Saunders then sold Allergan to Abbvie (ABBV) for $63 billion in a deal that closed in May 2020. He says no deal is imminent for Bausch + Lomb.
