New York based artist Kadar Brock creates paintings through performative acts of erasure and self-reflection, using laborious processes to layer multiple compositions and merge them through eradication. Kadar will be one of the artists at the Hayama Artist Residency in Hayama, Japan in June 2024.

Ben Tanaka (also Shearon) was born in Germany, grew up in northern Spain, yet claims to be British. He retired from formal work in 2022 and since then he has been trying to figure out what to do with himself. He has been running RetireJapan since 2013 to help people living in Japan learn more about personal finance, investing, retirement, and life in Japan. He also helps his wife run a medium-sized English school and writes various things. For fun, he is enthusiastic about losing at jiu-jitsu and wants to spend more time on Miyakojima.

Dexter Wimberly is an American curator based in Japan who has organized exhibitions in galleries and institutions around the world including the Museum of Arts and Design in New York City; The Green Family Art Foundation in Dallas, Texas; The Harvey B. Gantt Center in Charlotte, North Carolina; KOKI Arts in Tokyo, Japan; BODE in Berlin, Germany; and The Third Line in Dubai, UAE. His exhibitions have been reviewed and featured in publications including The New York Times and Artforum; and have received support from The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, and The Kinkade Family Foundation. Wimberly is a Senior Critic at New York Academy of Art, and the founder and director of the Hayama Artist Residency in Japan. He is also the co-founder and CEO of the online education platform, CreativeStudy. Prior to his curatorial career, Wimberly was the managing partner of the New York-based advertising and marketing agency August Bishop, representing a diverse array of clients including Adidas, The Coca-Cola Company, and HBO.

Jonathan Hewitt was a founding member of adidas Japan, with revenues growing from zero to a billion dollars, and his role oversaw all areas of retail, finance, operations and e-commerce. Previously, during a joint role between adidas Japan and Executive Director of Salomon Taylor Made Japan, Jonathan executed the take private strategy that established the industry benchmark in Japan.
He has also developed detailed retail growth and brand protection strategies and was Managing Director at Under Armour Japan and Executive Vice President at Coach Japan.
Jonathan is a professional photographer and author of three books about life and work in Japan.

Peter Lyon introduced the world to Japan’s “drifting” scene before we even knew what drifting was and has been at the heart of automotive subculture in Japan since 1988.
He’s a motor journalist and has been racing cars since 2001, mainly in the Mazda MX-5 4-hour race in Japan, with his team capturing 2nd place twice. In 2009, he created the Lexus IS-F racing team with ex-Indy 500 racer Hideshi Matsuda and Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi to compete at Germany’s Nurburgring race track. They came 1st in class in their first 4-hour race before competing in the 2010 Nurburgring 24-hour race, an event in which his team placed 4th in class.
His articles and photographs have appeared in well-known magazines worldwide including Top Gear, Autocar, Car and Driver, Auto Express, GQ Japan and Forbes.
He’s also authored two books and hosts a car show on Japan’s national NHK TV network.

Dan Formless’ rapid rise in the business support and start-up arena saw him become the youngest ever CEO of a British chamber of commerce at 25 years old. He left to focus on his lifelong passions: music and filmmaking. Embracing the growth of live-streaming, he created opportunities to work with numerous internationally-renowned artists and music brands. Dan founded independent East London radio station Hoxton FM (2011), Forward Movement hybrid studio (2019) and this year his own record label, Saboteurs Sanctuary.

Judah Armani is Founder of InHouse Records, operating in multiple UK and USA prisons, Head of the Social Impact Challenge Lab at the Royal College of Art and a Research Fellow at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts, London.
Judah has pioneered new ways in which design education, particularly service design education and practice, can be deployed to transform the lives and education of those serving prison sentences. He established InHouse Records, which is a fully functioning record label operating in seven UK and three USA prisons, along with Aux Magazine, a publication that is primarily educational but also engaging and entertaining. It is distributed in 48 prisons in the UK and USA. Graduates of the InHouse programme have a re-offending rate of less than 1%.

Victoria Cantons is now one of the major names in the art world. About Andrew
Andrew Ramroop is a Savile Row tailor. His international client list includes famous politicians, movie stars, captains of industry and royalty.
Andrew is Trinidadian and became an apprentice to a local tailor when he was 13. He moved to London when he was 17 to work on Savile Row. He graduated from the London College of Fashion and eventually became the first Black person to own a Tailoring House on Savile Row, Maurice Sedwell.
Andrew is keen to pass on his skills to the next generation of tailors and has been heavily involved in creating bespoke training initiatives for them. He was awarded an OBE in 2009, for his work in tailoring and training, and was the UK’s Black Business Person of the Year in 2017.

Described as “the art world's enfant terrible," Kenny has weaved his way through various roles as a self-taught artist, writer, curator, father and, most recently, NFT pioneer. Always on the outside, yet embedded within the inside, Kenny is a self-confessed walking contradiction. He is the ultimate disrupter and is full of generosity, always seeking ways to forge new paths for emerging artists.

About Kenny:
Kenny Schachter has been curating contemporary art exhibits in museums and galleries and teaching (art history and economics) for more than thirty years; presently in the graduate department of the University of Zurich (appointed to advisory board January 2021) professorships at the School of Visual Arts (NY) and New York University. He has lectured internationally, been the recipient of a Rockefeller supported grant in Mexico, and contributed to books on Paul Thek, Zaha Hadid, Vito Acconci and Sigmar Polke/Gerhard Richter.
Schachter has a regular column on Artnet.com in addition to writing widely for various international publications, including most recently New York Magazine and The Times Magazine (UK). He had a retrospective of his art at Joel Mesler’s Rental Gallery in New York in the summer of 2018, curated an exhibit at Simon Lee Gallery in London, fall 2018 and a one-person show at Kantor Gallery, LA, February 2019. He recently participated in a two-person show with Eva Beresin at Galerie Charim in Vienna (both in May 2021). Schachter also participated in Art Basel 2021 in Switzerland and Miami with Nagel Draxler Gallery.
Schachter is presently the subject of a documentary being produced and directed by Chris Smith (Tiger King/Fyre Festival), and a Hulu/ABC NFT film, and has been profiled in The New York Times Magazine (cover story, September, 1996), and London's Observer, Independent and Telegraph. After having made digital art for decades, Schachter has spearheaded the traditional art world’s adaptation of Non-Fungible Tokens in 2020-1 by lecturing from Yale to the Hirschhorn Museum and written 12 feature articles for Artnet on the subject. In 2021, he curated wide-ranging NFTism exhibitions (a term he trademarked) at Nagel Draxler in Cologne, Institut in London. Kenny is currently based in New York.
About James:
James is a multipotentialite: a lawyer, executive coach, painter, music producer and podcaster. He studied at the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge and the Royal College of Art. He holds two board positions in Tokyo and also lectures law part-time in Japan’s top-ranking universities.
He is Senior Legal Counsel at one of Japan’s best-known institutions. He uses his fine art background to approach the corporate world through a creative corporate design lens. In the art world, he regularly holds exhibitions in Tokyo and London and you will often hear his music played on radio stations such as BBC Radio One.
James is accredited as an Associate Certified Coach by the International Coaching Federation and a mediator by the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution.
James is British and is of Trinidadian origin.
