  • The fellas took a little field trip this week to visit a friend of the brand and Baltic’s New York City Showroom Manager, Remi Martin.

Baltic has become a darling amongst beginner and veteran watch enthusiasts alike. Baltic’s founder, Etienne Malec, debuted their first timepieces in 2017 and have not looked back since. As their current catalog stands, the brand boasts an 11 individual collections and nearly 50 watches — it’s not a stretch to say that Baltic can no longer be considered a “microbrand,” “small Indie” or however you want to label them as.

After joining the Baltic team in 2023, Remi Martin quickly became the number one prospect to grow the brand’s roots in New York City. Now holding the title as Showroom Manager for Baltic’s New York boutique, Remi’s responsibilities range from taking walk-in appointments to holistically creating a community surrounding Baltic in the great New York area.

With WindUp NYC around the corner and our penchant for stone dial watches, we sit down with Remi at the Baltic showroom to talk about their latest release, the rising trend of stone dial watches and the growing status of microbrands in the watch industry.

  • The fellas are back at Analog:Shift HQ and this time they tackle a question that has been asked since collecting vintage watches became as popular as it is today — does box & papers matter?

It’s an interesting topic considering the amount of clients and collectors that lead with that inquiry. Thomas, Josh and Sam provide their opinions and attempt to see both sides of seeking out the additional factory ephemera, or foregoing it all together.

They raise some interesting points in regard to collector arch, presentation, storage and how box and papers play a role in the watch’s market value. So we leave the question to you
does having the extra goodies actually matter?

  • Accutron boasts an incredible legacy of innovation, forward-thinking design and ‘firsts’ in the watch industry, and beyond.. However it seems that legacy is lost on many — even for the “watch nerds” in the back. So we decided to get a couple of well-qualified gentlemen in the same room to break down Accutron’s significance and impact on the world.

In episode 4 of Talking:Shift, Thomas Calara is joined by our founder, James Lamdin, and Accutron’s Sales Manager, Richard Callamaras to shed light on the brand’s legacy. And this isnt any ol’ room either — we were on location to shoot at the Bulova Accutron archive museum at the top of the Empire State Building!

Richard Callamaras is more than what his title says on his business card. Richard is a brand historian, passionate enthusiast and scholar when it comes to all things Bulova and Accutron. This conversation is filled with plenty of historical nuggets, approaches to collecting, insight in regard to current trends we’re seeing in watches today, and of course, a look at the Accutron’s Legacy collection!

  • Talking:Shift is back, and this week the boys are joined by writer extraordinaire and the face of our Deep Dive video series, Samuel Colchamiro, to create a 4 watch collection with a $40K budget. They decide to spice, or better yet, “sport” things up by using a fantasy draft format outlined by these specific categories — Work, Rest, Play and
 Vacay.

Between their different preferences in wristwatch aesthetics and lifestyle choices, as well as the given total spend constraint, each collection ends up being diverse, intriguing, and an accurate representation of each participant.

Were there disagreements? Of course. But in the end, the fellas kept it cordial with some having more money left on the table than others.

As for who had the best collection? Let us know in the comments below and give us your own 4 watch collection!

  • Talking:Shift is back and this time Thomas Calara and Josh Coates dig into the concept of ‘Dressy Sport Watches’ aka DSW’s. They discuss their own DSW ideology and what specific features are a must — dial aesthetics, case thickness, water resistance, etc. Prior to listing their own examples, they set a handful of rules for one another, and as expected, rules were broken.

Did the fellas get it right? Are you into the idea of a Dressy Sport Watch? Let us know in the comments below what your collection of DSW's looks like and if we missed any pieces that fit the bill!

  • We’d like to welcome you all to Talking:Shift; a casual chat about watches, collecting and anything else that drives the conversation! And what better way to introduce our latest video series than to dig into this year’s new novelties from Watches & Wonders 2024!

Thomas Calara, one of our Contributing Editors here at A:S, as well as Josh Coates, our Vintage Timepiece Specialist sat down with Stephen Watson, one half of the Watches of Switzerland coverage team who was on the ground in Geneva, Switzerland to cover all of the horological madness.

Stephen Watson is an industry veteran currently serving as the Editor-In-Chief for Modern Luxury's Watches International and contributing as a social media consultant, writer, and video producer for Watches of Switzerland. In addition to numerous bylines in Revolution Mag and Watch Journal, Stephen has made a name for himself in the fashion industry with stints as the Fashion Director of Men's Vogue and Associate Fashion Editor of Vogue. Needless to say, Stephen is more than qualified to chat all-things Watches & Wonders.
