Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear. I’m Fred Fishkin. Fourth of July related searches are among the top trends reported by Google. For food…grilled pineapple slices and grilled halibut are trending. That sounds pretty healthy. But…says Google’s Charity Mhende…
“Interestingly enough, in the past five years, searches for hot dog eating contest have surpassed searches for baseball game during the week of fourth of July.”
No surprise that Taylor Swift is leading the way again when it comes to music. And on TV…on top…is Bridgerton…
“Bridgerton has come back for another season so people across the country were searching for things like does Colin forgive Penelope as well as do Eloise and Penelope make up.”
Bridgerton was followed by The Boys and House of the Dragon. You can find more on the latest at google.com/trends.

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear. I’m Fred Fishkin. Larry O’Connor was still in high school when he started a little business because he wasn’t happy with some mail order computer printer ribbons. The year was 1988 and he was 14. Within a year…he had an 800 number and was selling memory upgrades for Apple computers. In 1993…he named his company Other World Computing. And he is still at it today. We’re going to tell you about some of the latest products in upcoming reports. But first…you should know why OWC continues to grow and win fans..
“We’re here for our customers and we’re here because of our customers and we appreciate that opportunity each and every day. We’re very grateful and thankful for that. And we have a lot of fun doing what we’re doing.”

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear. I’m Fred Fishkin. More Techstination recommended summer reading…this time from The Atlantic staff writer James Parker. He is out with a collection of odes titled Get Me Through the Next Five Minutes. It’s the kind of book you can pick up and read bit by bit at any time. But you may be tempted as I was…to just keep on going. The odes are that entertaining…from the Ode to Electricity , to Ode to Naps, to Ode to Squirrels, Parker’s observations are fun and often thought provoking… and he invites readers to write odes of their own..
“If you trust your own perceptions. I think that’s really important. And look after it. And then, I think, this stuff will come at you and you’ll find yourself able to write about it in a different way than you imagined.”
One can only hope. The title again.. Odes to Being Alive. Get Me Through the Next Five Minutes.

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear. I’m Fred Fishkin. What’s different about the S600 speakerphone from AnkerWork? Plenty. It is rechargeable and has a top that flips over to serve as a Qi wireless phone charger….a great sounding speaker…and surround microphones. But the big deal the the S600’s ability to identify your voice….to block out other voices and noises around you. Anker’s Brett White says it uses AI to eliminate those distractions…
“Babies crying, dogs barking, doobells ringing…to where you can pretty much have an open environment like we’re sitting in right now and have all of this commotion happening around you and the S600 will be trained to only key in and listen to your voice and to only send out your voice.”
Does it work? You bet. Learn more at www.ankerwork.com.

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear. I’m Fred Fishkin. Kids love tech….but they don’t have to be parked in front of screens all of the time. Some of our favorite screen free toys include the Dog-E One in a Million Robot Dog from WowWee. A six year old we know still loves to play with hers all these months after the holiday season. WowWee has a winner. The same is true for the Tonie Box….the screen free story telling speaker….that’s rechargeable for road trips…is always fun with new Tonies arriving all of the time to keep kids entertained. Parents and grandparents can narrate their own stories for kids to play too. And Tamagotchi is coming back with new virtual pets…Angel Festival and Monster Carnival. They are the second wave of the Tamagotchi Uni line and will arrive July 13th.

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear. I’m Fred Fishkin. The OnePlus Watch 2 has arrived …delivering multi-day battery life in a Wear OS device. That alone is a pretty big deal. And while there is no option for a stand alone cellular connection, there is dual frequency GPS tracking and an AMOLED display. The OnePlus Watch 2 is nicely styled…but some may find it large for smaller wrists. We’ve seen the price at OnePlus.com as low as 270 dollars….with free Buds 3 headphones and fifty dollars off when you trade in any watch in any condition. If you are looking for a smart watch and a decent pair of ear buds…that is a deal worth pursuing. OnePlus is a Chinese manufacturer that has been delivering some impressive devices to consumers for more than a decade.
