  • The latest cult making headline is a fascinating mixture of TikTok, popular dancers and a church and the fallout is playing out real time.

It is also alleged that ‘cults’ grew during COVID and some spread anti-vaccination ideas.

It’s easy to be judgy about people who get caught up in a cult, and make generalisations about who is most likely to be lured.

But you may be surprised about who is most likely to join a cult and why. In this episode, one Antoinette is considering joining a dance cult, while the other shares her journey when a cult tried to recruit her.

  • The Antoinettes have hit the six month probation mark as workmates so it’s time they give one another a performance review for your listening pleasure.

And while they’re at it, they are going to unpack common pitfalls women experience when navigating the workplace - from negotiating pay rises to dealing with sexist behaviour.

You’ll hear from other listeners who share horror pay negotiation stories. And don’t worry fellas, there are tips in here for you too, especially if your name is Keith!

  • There are more billionaires than ever before. This comes at a time when the poor are getting poorer. In ‘Loot’ comedian Maya Rudolph‘s character gives away all her billions and helps save the world and her soul.

So why don’t we do this IRL and banish billionaires? Cutting their economic and political power is a popular idea among plebs like us, but how could it be done? And would innovation and employment suffer as a result?

This week we put the likes of Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Gina Reinhart and even Taylor Swift on the chopping block - and you may be surprised by which Antoinette takes the biggest swing and which comes to the defence of the seriously cashed up.

  • Big news and a significant win this week in Antoinette Lattouf v Australian Broadcasting Corporation. The development is being beamed over TV and online here and abroad, but how does it feel to be at the centre of such a public legal feud? And is Antoinette celebrating this win? Azure Antoinette takes over as journalist in charge, and for once is the one handing out the tissues to her co-host.

  • There have been widespread and prominent failures of western media in its coverage of the October 7 attacks and the unfolding genocide in Gaza. From the meek reportage of the killing of journalists in Gaza, the circulation of unchecked war propaganda to punishing and muzzling of journalists who raise concerns about unfair reporting.

Truth is often seen as a casualty of war, but has audience trust also been obliterated? Can it ever be regained?

For months, millions have watched the annihilation of Palestinian civilians live streamed on their phones, as legacy media outlets face internal battles on how to cover incessant tge violence, political inaction against the backdrop intense pressure from lobbyists.

The Antoinettes examine the failures of 'objectivity' and if it should be replaced with 'moral clarity'. And one Antoinette questions if she needs to 'break up' with the media once and for all.

  • The default patient in medical research has typically been a white, heterosexual man from Pennsylvania. Let’s call him Andrew. So where does that leave everyone else in medicine?

There’s increasing evidence of the way women’s symptoms and conditions are downplayed or ignored in healthcare. But move over medical misogyny - medical gaslighting is here not only to borrow therapy speak, but to broaden the even more overlooked populations in healthcare. This includes POC, the poor, people with disability, LGBTQI+ and the elderly.

This episode will explore what is needed to address medical gaslighting -- systemically -- but also what individuals can do.

The Antoinettes also share their recent experiences of gaslighting, although one Antoinette has been so effectively gaslit, she struggles to remember it happening to her!

  • What was meant to be a funny hosting gig, spiralled when one of The Antoinettes joined two renowned feminists and television pranksters The Inspired Unemployed. Let's talk about it.

Before the Daily Mail uses the over the top cliche, we want to get there first - Antoinette Lattouf has 'broken her silence' over the prank that didn't go as planned. (insert dramatic music!)

WTF happened? Was it really a shock that some audience members weren't happy? And what do you do when intention doesn't align with impact? This episode unpacks it all. One Antoinette is open and reflective, the other is still in hysterics. The Antoinettes explore public apologies, a woman's margin for error and if comedy and prank shows only have space for blokey men.

  • Commissioned poet and the more teary half of The Antoinettes - Azure - studio recorded the poem she wrote and performed at the No More Violence Against Women rallies in Melbourne and Sydney.

It's a rallying cry for boys to be raised to respect women. It's a plea for the killing of women from shopping centres to refugee camps to stop,

Azure also shares her experiences as a three time sexual assault survivor, and how violence even kills those who are still alive. It is heartfelt. It is passionate. It is urgent (even if it doesn't rhyme).

  • We are living through a golden age of public protest. So, what do protests achieve, if anything? In many arenas, it seems inequities and injustices are getting worse, not better. Recent anti-protest laws are also making mass assembly harder.

Tens of thousands of Australians took to the streets demanding #NoMore violence against women. University students in cities across Australia set up encampments in solidarity with American counterparts who have been arrested and demonised for demanding their universities divest from Israel.

Given activists often don’t get to see the change they’re fighting for within their lifetime, what does ‘success’ look like? One Antoinette is hopeful and proud of Generation Z, the other Antoinette is teary, weary and doesn’t have faith that progress is attainable.

  • In a special live recording, The Antoinettes talk terrorism and somehow manage to punctuate this dark terrain with plenty of laughs.

In the immediate aftermath of Sydney’s two violent, public attacks, the masses are quick to think (and ask) is this terrorism?

Authorities quickly labelled one attacker a terrorist, but the other had mental health issues and according to his father “just wanted a girlfriend”.

How do we define terrorism, and who does it apply to? What role does the media play in stocking fears and perpetuating stereotypes?

And why is it that some perpetrators and some crimes -- like violent attacks on women -- get exempt from such a label?

This episode will explore what the law says, media tropes, racism and if authorities politicise and weaponise “terrorism”.

Live from the Racial Justice conference, we ask all the tough and troubling questions and still give the audience something to chuckle about.

  • The troubled and polarised times we live in, and the rise of social media, have created what feels like an age of endless conflict. Rather than fearing or avoiding disagreement, do we need to embrace conflict and try to get really good at it?

Conflict is entirely necessary for intellectual, emotional, and even moral growth, but technology and social media has changed how we fight and who we fight with.

Drawing on their own conflicts (with each other!) and others, The Antoinettes hash out their own trials, tribulations and triumphs in the argy-bargy arena.

And naturally, there are disagreements and conflicting ideas as they navigate this age-old primal instinct.

  • What do Johnny Depp, the former Disability Discrimination Commissioner and our very own Azure Antoinette have in common? They’ve all had run-ins with travel authorities because of their dogs.

Getting from A to B is a freedom most people take for granted. But for people living with disabilities, Australia still lags behind other western nations, in its accessibility.

No matter how high profile you are or how many times it makes headlines, airlines keep stuffing up their treatment of people with disability -- from the Australian of the Year Dylan Alcott, to the former Disability Discrimination Commissioner and even our own Azure Antoinette whose service dog was just denied travel by two airlines after not being allowed in the country for more than two years..

The United Nations declares it a basic human right to grant persons with disabilities to liberty of movement.

Why does Australia continue to get it wrong given 1 in 5 Aussies live with disability? And how do we compare to other OECD nations?

This episode explores the impact of ableism on dignity and freedom but also the economic loss when companies and governments don't get it right and why Azure is still mad at Johnny Depp.

  • All is not well in the house of the mouse. There's a vicious and public fight over Walt Disney Co.'s board, and late last year its share price hit an almost decade low. Did Disney 'go woke and go broke' as culture warrior rhyming wordsmiths like to suggest?
An 82-year-old billionaire who is vying for a seat on Disney's board has criticised Disney’s “woke” film strategy with ‘Black Panther's’ all black cast and ‘Marvels’ all female cast.

So is Disney’s fairytale shine finally dimming? In this episode, The Antoinettes take the opportunity to unpack and poke fun at problematic fairytale Disney classics (and their even more frightening book origin stories). One Antoinette, who is a stepmother, gets pretty mad, although she promises she's not evil.

Are modern adaptations of Disney classics worth doing (culturally and financially?)

Or do we just need new stories and ideas (think Encanto and Coco) rather than reviving old ones and igniting boring culture wars?

  • Fast fashion is very alluring. It’s cheap, accessible and appears to come in endless designs, sizes and colours. We’re looking at you Shein, Temu, Zara, H&M, ASOS and the like.

However, the cost to the environment, people, and animals is catastrophic.

It dries up water sources and pollutes rivers and streams given 85% of all textiles go to dumps each year. Australia is now the second highest consumer of textiles per person in the world, after the USA.

In this episode, one Antoinette makes a damning confession about her relationship with fast fashion.

The Antoinettes explore the levers currently available to slow down fast fashion -- including a world first ‘fast fashion’ tax in France -- and whether it's enough.

  • 'Trigger warning - this episode contains references to violence, colonialism, racism and trauma which some individuals may find distressing.’

For more than 160 days, we’ve watched human rights atrocities in Gaza live streamed on our phones. Can we unsee what we’re witnessing? In addition to grappling with vicarious trauma from an endless stream of images of death, injury and starving of Palestinian children and other civilians -- there’s growing anger at western leaders for not doing more to stop the carnage.

There’s a significant shift in public opinion not only about the senselessness and brutality of the IDF’s ongoing actions, but also the role western leaders and sections of the media have played in allowing it to flourish. The latest conflict has also called into question the strength and purpose of international law, which has been all but ignored.

How do we ever recover from this? Or is it important that we don't?

The Antoinettes have many thoughts, a heap of feelings, as they struggle with a way forward.

  • Despite the attempted insurrection, being impeached (twice), loads of current lawsuits against him, Donald Trump is the Republican candidate and could be President again. Should anyone be surprised? Is he the leader the U.S needs? And do we need to accept that Trump is simply an authentic reflection of modern America?

In this episode of The Antoinettes, one Antoinette argues that political mayhem is the only way forward, while the American Antoinette has a very different, very personal take.

She’s diving head first into every possible health and wellness fad in an attempt to feel better. The other Antoinette thinks the wellness industry is pseudoscience nonsense that should be ignored. But is it impossible to ignore or write off an industry worth $5.6 trillion (which is greater than Germany’s GDP!).

  • International Women’s Day has been sanitised and corporatised beyond recognition. Is it time to put the prosecco down and return IWD to its revolutionary roots? Some believe it’s important to celebrate how far women have come, while others argue there’s little worth applauding given the glacial changes and a fixation on middle class women’s woes.

In this episode, The Antoinettes hash out whether the time has come to axe IWD altogether.

  • Taylor Swift is on Australian shores and fans are losing their minds over the 11 time Grammy Award winning star. While her admirers are loud and proud, those who don’t understand or buy into the hysteria are often too scared to say that in public. It ranges from a fear of being called a bad feminist, and for others, a fear of being beaten to death with a Taylor Swift friendship bracelet.

In this episode The Antoinettes discuss the mega Swift brand, whether being a ‘light touch’ feminism progressive is enough, and exclusively reveal a new, and probably real conspiracy theory about Taylor Swift and skincare.
