Today's episode is a companion to our recent deep dive on the informed homemaker which is all about making sense of what is happening in the world and our culture with eyes of faith through a Biblical worldview lens. Of course going right to the source and studying scripture itself is the best policy, but what about companion resources such as devotionals, Bible focused podcasts, Bible study books, online sermons, other Christian publications, YouTube channels, etc? How to we know who to trust? Is there a way to tell whether or not a preacher or publication is biblically sound? That is what we are discussing today as we look at the example of a group of believers from the New Testament called the Bereans.

Has the news got you angry, worried, or ready to opt out of society? As part of our season-long exploration of courageous homemaking we are going to tackle the topic of world news, events and culture. How do we navigate all of that responsibly without fear, fighting or checking out completely and what does all of this have to do with courageous homemaking?
The Rise and Triumph of the Modern Self, Carl R Trueman *note, Trueman wrote a more concise, less academic version of this book called, Strange New World The God Who is There, Francis SchaefferTotal Truth, Nancy Pearcey
My discussion partner today is Isa Ryan, a homemaker and writer who grew up with a very progressive paradigm and no concept of biblical femininity. As a follower of Christ, she now champions God's design for men, women and the family in her writing and her interactions on social media.
Join us as we look at what it means to be an informed homemaker and why it matters.

One of the ways we can express love in our homemaking is to prioritize the family table. Slowing down long enough to gather and break bread together provides the family an opportunity to connect every day. In this episode we will look at things to consider regarding expectations and purpose as well as tips and ideas for setting the table and the mood and what to talk about once you are there.

In today's Monday Motivation I'm riffing on the popular Charlotte Mason idea of Mother Cultureâą and applying it to the homemaker. Mother Cultureâą stresses the importance of cultivating your own soul and mind with the express purpose of having something good, true and beautiful to offer those in your care.

Homemaker Culture, as I have experienced it over the past 30+ years, involves claiming small windows of time amidst our busy days to cultivate a rich reading life, religious life, artful life and creative life. This episode will focus on the creative life, with some practical suggestions to help you begin to pursue Homemaker Culture.

"There are homes in which there is nothing remarkable in the way of grandeur or elegance, yet the very atmosphere as you enter it is filled with sweetness like, 'the smell of a field that the Lord hath blessed'. It is the aroma of love, the love of Christ shed abroad in human hearts." ~JR Miller

We have an opportunity, homemakers, to cultivate a particular spiritual and relational fragrance in our homes. Will it be a sweet aroma or an offensive stench? In today's Monday Motivation, I'm sharing my summer memories of creating from my grandmother's scrap box and how I carried that practice into my own home when my children were growing up. Whether to fill time on a rainy afternoon, keep little hands busy during travel or in waiting rooms, a Busy Box for your kids or grandkids will certainly spark creativity. Just remember, it's not really about the end result, it's the process and the memory you are making of being creative together.

Hereâs what Tina had to say about Aleciaâs practice of the art of home: "Alecia makes her home a place where children are nurtured in the love of Christ and pointed to what is true, good, and beautiful. She is a welcoming hostess who intentionally uses her home as a place where souls can find rest, and be met with the love of Christ."
