President Biden will meet with Democratic governors later today as he attempts to solidify support among his party’s top leaders after last week’s debate. This as Rep. Lloyd Doggett of Texas has become the first Democrat in Congress to publicly call for Mr. Biden to step down as his party’s nominee for president. While you and I can do very little to change our leaders or resolve the political turmoil of these days, we can contribute directly to our national “soul.”

The Supreme Court ruled yesterday that Donald Trump is entitled to “a presumptive immunity from prosecution for all his official acts.” However, it added that a president “enjoys no immunity for unofficial acts, and not everything the president does is official.” However, here’s the foundational issue no court or law can resolve unilaterally: whether the actions of a president—or anyone else—are moral. So where does a culture’s morality come from?

A poll released yesterday indicated that 72 percent of registered voters do not believe Joe Biden has the mental and cognitive health to serve as president; 49 percent said the same of Donald Trump. However, Americans can take heart that no matter who ends up winning the election this November, the only king of our nation is the law, which subjects the office of presidency to the powers of Congress and our courts. Similarly, Christians can take heart that Christ is our king, not our president, and his rule is perfect in glory and grace.

President Biden and former President Trump held a ninety-minute debate last night at CNN’s Atlanta studios. Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court issued four significant rulings. Approval of the Court has sunk to historic lows, as has public opinion regarding the presidency. Why is this issue so critical to our future? To wrap up our week-long exploration of why God would allow suffering in the innocent, we examine the role trust plays in how our secular society views God’s people and how Satan uses sin in the clergy to undermine God’s message of love.

Tonight’s televised presidential debate between Trump and Biden is the earliest such event in US history. Since roughly 10 percent of US voters are still undecided, tonight’s event could prove especially pivotal. In continuing this week’s discussion on how God could allow the innocent to suffer, we look at the subjective correlation between voters’ personalities and their chosen candidates along with the origins of the postmodern idealogy of “your truth” and “my truth.”

A spokesperson for Donald Trump said Mr. Trump is “knowingly going into a hostile environment” for tomorrow night’s presidential debate. Mr. Trump’s campaign is warning of a “three against one” ambush that can only favor President Biden. Of course, if the debate were being hosted on a network and by moderators known for conservative bias, Mr. Biden’s campaign might be issuing similar statements. Let’s apply this discussion to our question this week: Why does God allow innocent suffering, especially at the hands of those who claim to represent him?

Callie Weems, 23, died last Friday helping to save the life of another victim after a gunman opened fire at a store in Fordyce, AR. She had a ten-month-old daughter. Today’s article continues our discussion on why an all-knowing, all-loving, all-powerful Father sometimes allows innocent victims to suffer. If believers must account for the evil perpetrated by Christians, skeptics must account for the sacrificial deeds of believers like Callie Weems. But what of other storms in this life?

Yesterday morning, a Gateway Church elder asked the congregation to pray for Morris’s accuser and her family, the entire Morris family, and Gateway Church staff members. There have been many recent examples of the “clergy abuse scandal” that are reaching across our secularized culture. Today we start by asking ourselves the hard question, “If God is all-powerful and all-knowing, why won’t he protect the innocent?” We’ll continue the painful yet essential conversation tomorrow.

Autocracies around the world caused last year to see the highest number of state-based conflicts in the world since 1946. Russia is attempting to erase evangelical churches in occupied Ukraine, while Iran and China are accelerating their nuclear programs. However, those living in democracies are expressing dissatisfaction with their mode of governance, namely with those in leadership. Today we look at why that is and how a holy posture toward the Lord is key to unlocking an amicable future.

The terrorist group Hezbollah ramped up its attacks on Israel last week to their most intense level since the war began, then resumed them again Tuesday afternoon. If Hezbollah launches an all-out war with Israel, the IDF would respond in a way that would devastate Lebanon as well. Why, then would Hezbollah’s leaders want a war that can only harm the people they claim to serve? And what can the American people learn from this situation?

At a ceremony marking the 12th anniversary of the DACA program, President Biden announced an executive action that is estimated to shield upwards of half a million immigrants from deportation. As Christians, how should we respond? And how closely does the truth of what the executive action might accomplish mirror the perception that accompanies it?

Robert Morris, senior pastor of Gateway Church, stands accused by a woman of sexually abusing her as a child. Dr. Tony Evans, pastor of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship, recently announced he was stepping down from his pastoral duties for a “healing and restoration” time. We should remember that private sin never stays private and that the enemy will use our failings as publicly as he can to damage as many people as he can.

The Southern Baptist Convention’s annual meeting adopted a resolution on in vitro fertilization last week, voting to “reaffirm the unconditional value and right to life of every human being, including those in an embryonic stage.” The vote was widely understood to “condemn” or “oppose” the practice, but the discussion has more to it than that. Today we dive into three positions on IVF and the cultural issue behind this debate.

On Thursday, the Supreme Court ruled unanimously against a challenge that would have made it more difficult for people to receive the abortion drug mifepristone. But while their decision may be disappointing to those who believe life starts at conception, the reasoning behind the Court’s conclusion is important to consider. Today, we discuss the Court’s ruling and how we can use it as a reminder that our calling to stand for life with truth, love, and empathy remains unchanged and unaffected.

Yahya Sinwar, Hamas’s military leader in Gaza, told Hamas officials recently, “We have the Israelis right where we want them.” There has been a steep jump in antisemitic attacks around the world since the Nova Music Festival attack in Israel. Much of this is fueled by outrage over Palestinian casualties resulting from the IDF’s attempts to eradicate Hamas in Gaza. But here’s what those who hate Israel don’t understand: Hamas’s leader wants Palestinians to die.

Apple announced that Apple Intelligence will soon utilize AI to understand you and respond to your needs. The company’s stock surged over 7 percent to a record high yesterday on the news. But what about protecting your personal data and privacy? It all comes down to trust. Our instinct is to not trust that which we do not understand, but when it comes to our trust in God, we can have faith that his love for us is enough.

Jesse Morgan is the pastor of Green Pond Bible Church in Rockaway, New Jersey. He and his family were on the first week of his sabbatical, vacationing in Maine, when tragedy struck their six-year-old daughter Lucy. She had just accepted Christ one month earlier. When crisis strikes in our lives, the only preparation you have is the work you’ve done yesterday to prepare. And when we are prepared for what might come, our faith and faithfulness become a transformationally powerful witness to our lost world.

Israeli special forces raided two buildings in central Gaza on Saturday, rescuing four hostages. People in the war-torn region are responding today in three ways. How we interpret events depends largely on the ways they affect us personally. Today we discuss why we see the world through such a personal prism and five steps to culture-changing compassion.

Earlier this week, President Joe Biden issued an executive order aimed at reducing the influx of illegal immigrants and getting the southern border under some semblance of control. While debate continues surrounding its approach and what it will accomplish, the more pertinent question for us today is how God would have us respond. So what does the Bible say about illegal immigration and how should we think and act on this issue?
