Why are food companies keeping dangerous dyes in American products while offering healthier options in other countries?
Ever wonder why Fruit Loops look different in Canada than they do in the US? Here's the disturbing truth: major food companies are deliberately using harmful artificial dyes in American children's cereals while selling safer versions in other countries. Let's break down exactly why this matters for your family's health. In this episode, I'm diving into the explosive "Cancel Kellogg's" campaign and the scientific evidence that food companies don't want you to see. We're talking about petroleum-derived food dyes that have been linked to ADHD, behavioral issues, and learning problems in children - dyes that haven't been properly reviewed by the FDA in over 40 YEARS.
Here's what we're covering:
The real reason these artificial dyes are still in our food (spoiler: it's not because they're safe)Why food companies make safer versions for other countries but won't do the same for US kidsThe shocking levels of artificial dyes in popular cereals (hint: it's WAY more than you think)How to read labels to spot these sneaky ingredientsThe groundbreaking California law that could change everythingWhat you can actually DO about this issue (including a specific bill you can support right now)Whether you're a parent, educator, or just someone who cares about food safety, this episode will arm you with the knowledge you need to protect yourself and your loved ones. Plus, I'm sharing exactly how to make your voice heard in this fight for safer food.
Because here's the truth: pissed-off moms are how we change this. And I'm going to show you exactly how to channel that anger into action.

If you or someone you love is navigating chronic health issues, this episode is for you. Unfortunately, that probably means it's for all of you. Chronic health issues like autoimmune disorders, infertility, and more are normalized in this country. But that doesn't mean they're normal.
How Kelly came to be known as the Glyphosate Girl What is Glyphosate anyway? What are the negative health impacts of Glyphosate? How Glyphosate is destroying the environmentWhat can we actually do about this problem? (Hint, hint: it all comes back to regenerative agriculture) Read the shownotes here
Today, I'm joined by Kelly Ryerson, the Glyphosate Girl, to learn all about Glyphosate. From simple questions like "what IS Glyphosate?" to more complicated ones like "what is the solution when big corporate companies are trying to shield themselves from being held liable for our health issues that connect to these toxins?" - we're covering it all.
And let me tell you, Kelly was the perfect person to have this conversation with. After experiencing health issues that Western doctors were chalking up to nothing, she cut out Gluten as a last ditch effort. And guess what? Things quickly shifted in her favor. She was feeling better but now, she was wondering why.
And the special thing about Kelly is that she made it her personal mission to find out what's really going on with Gluten. She attended conferences filled with doctors and bravely asked questions no one else was. And when an important figure in the history of Glyphosate's rise was brought to trial, she sat it on the whole thing and blogged her experience.
If you head over to gyphosatefacts.com, you can see all of the facts that we discuss in this episode laid out for you.

Early puberty is not just a psychological bump in the road. Yes, it can be a really isolating event for a child, but it also poses real health risks. We're seeing an increased risk of cancer and cardiovascular issues amongst kids that go through puberty early.
The Study on Early Puberty and Musk AmbretteUnderstanding Synthetic Fragrance and Its RisksRegulatory Challenges in the USPractical Tips for Avoiding this Chemical
So what's causing this in the first place and what can we do to protect our children? Well, scientists think they've found one chemical constituent that actually triggers a girl's body into going into early puberty. The ingredient in question? Musk Ambrette.
So today, we're going to talk all about Musk Ambrette - what it is, where it's found, and how you can spot this ingredient in your products. This episode highlights another reason why I'm so adamant about avoiding synthetic fragrance. If you haven't listened to episode 2 (how synthetic fragrances have hijacked our hormones) or episode 58 (on botanical alternatives to synthetic musk), those episodes are good additions to round out your understanding!

Should you avoid titanium dioxide in your cosmetics? It's not a simple yes or no answer. I've actually been consulting directly with formulators of cosmetic brands lately and titanium dioxide is a hot topic.
Why I'm consulting with brands on product formulationSafety concerns and risks of Titanium DioxideWhen is Titanium Dioxide safe? Controversial uses of Titanium Dioxide
Today, I'll be explaining the science behind the risks of titanium dioxide, differentiates between nano and non-nano forms, and outline when and where the ingredient may be safe or unsafe. With this ingredient, it really depends on the product you're using.
So don't jump to throw away your favorite products just because you see titanium dioxide on the ingredient list! After listening to this episode, you'll be empowered to make more informed decisions at the check out counter. One thing that's less nuanced than your cosmetics: always avoid titanium dioxide in food! You definitely don't want to be ingesting this stuff!

I want to create a culture where it's cool to read labels. Imagine if everybody read labels and really cared about the ingredients that were in our products. Companies would have to start making cleaner products.
Why I believe in the power of reading labels The three main ingredients to avoid Undisclosed Fragrance Toxic PreservativesEthoxylated Ingredients How to actually spot these ingredients on a label Toxin-free alternatives to look out for
They would see people gravitating to and purchasing the cleaner products. And we all know our money is the ultimate needle mover. So I created this episode as a bit of an introduction to label reading. If you're new here, this is also a great episode to serve as a roadmap to the rest of the podcast.
I know reading labels can be overwhelming for people. When you're shopping, especially if you've got kids in tow, stopping to scan the label might be the last thing on your mind. But when you're armed with the basic knowledge needed to quickly and effectively spot harmful ingredients, it can feel really empowering.
Not only will I be going through the most pervasive and harmful ingredients to spot, but I'll also provide a quick list of safer alternatives. When you master this skill, you don't have to wait for me or anyone else to give the red or green light on a product.

Have you noticed that 12 step skincare routines are being marketed to younger and younger age groups? Nine year olds are flocking to Sephora to get their fix. How necessary/unnecessary is this? Is there some merit to adopting a skincare routine so young?
What does it mean to take a holistic approach to skincare? Embracing Natural Beauty and AgingThe Role of Regenerative Sourcing in SkincareSkincare best practices for every age group
This is just one of the many questions we're answering today with holistic esthetician, Jamie Burkhalter. We're going beyond the consumerism of skincare and reframing it from a routine to a ritual. So whether you've got a teenager at home dealing with acne for the first time or you're wondering how to maintain elasticity as you age, this episode is for you.
We're also having an important conversation about the expectations that are put on us by social media. Personally, I've given up filters completely in hopes that I don't pass down insecurities to my children. The truth is, none of us are immune to aging and we should stop touting "anti-aging" products as the holy grail.
And finally, we'll be talking about why I love evanhealy, the skincare brand committed to regenerative sourcing and environmental sustainability. Jamie provides a deep dive into the ethos behind their nutrient-rich, plant-based products and the philosophy that prioritizes personal health and the health of our planet.

When you hear the words "Grapefruit Seed Extract," what do you picture? For me, images of a nice, juicy grapefruit being hand picked comes to mind. And that's exactly what companies that are labeling their products as "all-natural" want you to see.
The Reality Behind Grapefruit Seed ExtractWhy is Grapefruit Seed Extract even being used in these products? How to spot skincare companies that are actually clean
Unfortunately, grapefruit seed extract is not so innocent. Companies misleadingly market products as "all-natural" while sneaking in hormone-disrupting chemicals like benzalconium chloride, triclosan, and methylparabens. So today, we're digging into the startling findings from a recently published report that tested grapefruit seed extract products from six major companies—all but one contained synthetic preservatives.
What this means for your favorite products can be a bit complicated. So tune in to have it laid out super simply. Because here's the thing - your skincare shouldn't be messing with your hormones.

Last week, the EPA made a surprising announcement, a first in forty years, in which they issued an immediate emergency ban on a pesticide called DCPA. Now, I know what you're thinking - wow, I'm glad they're actually pulling a harmful product off the market! It is cause to celebrate, but let's dig a little bit deeper.
Understanding DCPA as a chemicalThe EPA's delayed response and public pressureCalifornia's struggle with DCPAHow to protect yourself from harmful pesticides
The unfortunate truth is that this pesticide has been used in the US since the 1950s and we've known about it's harmful effects since the 90s. So why did it take so long to ban DCPA? What is DCPA used for? And who in our population is most directly negatively affected by this pesticide? We're going to dig into all of the details on today's episode.
I also want to take you behind the scenes on how regulatory agencies, influenced by industry pressures, often prioritize manufacturers over public health. This is important information to have, even post-ban, because their are still tons of pesticides on the market that, frankly, should have been banned a long time ago.

Imagine transforming your household into a haven of health without causing friction among your loved ones. I just wrapped up another cohort of Toxin Free in 3 and the question "how can I get my family on board?" came up a lot.
Why it's important to be ready to educate your loved ones How to introduce change in baby steps Ideas for gifting healthier products to introduce change to friends The power of preparing before a shopping trip
It's easy to implement changes if you have young ones and you're the only one calling the shots. That used to be my experience! But in the past few years, everything has changed now that I have a husband and teenagers. Teenagers tend to have a lot to say about the products in your home. It's important to them to be on top of trends and if a classmate has that cool new perfume, they want it too.
So today, I'm giving you my honest tips for navigating resistance to change in your household. Here's the thing: gradual changes are key and compromise is a non-negotiable. At the end of the day, everyone has to have autonomy over their choices. So if you have to look at a toxic shampoo in the shower, you might just have to grin and bear it every now and then.

93 percent of Americans according to the CDC, have detectable levels of BPA in their blood. But what does a “BPA Free” label even mean? Everytime you go shopping for plastic products like Tupperware, water bottles, etc. you’re faced with this message.
I think a lot of people see “BPA free” as the start and end to the toxin risk in these products. But are BPA free products actually safer? Or are we just swapping one problem for another?
BPA belongs to a larger class of chemicals called Bisphenols. There are a lot of bisphenols out there. But BPA is the one that is most widely known and the one that has been studied the longest. In the 1950s, it was discovered to make plastic sturdier. So that’s why BPAs are even used in the first place!
We now have a lot of scientific data that shows a correlation between BPAs and heart disease, breast cancer, and prostate cancer, metabolic disorders, diabetes, childhood asthma, fertility issues, recurring miscarriages, birth defects, ADHD, anxiety, and so much more. This chemical is bad news. So tune in to this episode to learn more about what you can do to protect your family against it. Because unfortunately, it’s not as straightforward as just reading a label.

What's the big deal with regenerative agriculture? I often say that it is regenerative agriculture that will save the world, and it's true. Regenerative farming can do absolute wonders for our planet, our food supply, the air we breath and so much more.

Today I'm joined by Brett Packer, executive director of Young Living Essential Oils Farms. We're unpacking the potential of regenerative agriculture and how it differs from industrial and organic farming practices.
He sheds light on how thriving soil ecosystems not only enhance our food's nutrient density but also mitigate the extensive environmental damage caused by industries like fast fashion. Industrial agriculture's post-WWII shift has had detrimental effects on our soil, water, and health.

The makers of the popular toothpaste brand RiseWell were sued recently. Why? Well, two moms in the state of California filed suit and claimed that they took their mineral kids toothpaste, sent it off to a lab and it tested positive for PFAS chemicals.
Now, RiseWell markets their toothpaste as PFAS free, as clean, as non toxic, as safe to swallow. These moms are claiming that that is actually not true. And in fact, their toothpaste is full of PFAS. So today, we’re diving into the details and chatting about whether or not this lawsuit holds merit. Spoiler alert: my daughter is still using RiseWell toothpaste as we speak.
With many people pulling their support for RiseWell until this lawsuit is settled, I feel a deep responsibility to speak up. Here’s the thing: I have a close working knowledge of RiseWell and their practices because of my affiliate relationship with them. I would never recommend any company without properly vetting them and asking the hard questions. And RiseWell has been nothing but impressive to me with their testing and transparency.
Unfortunately, small companies are a target for people that are looking for a payday. So listen to the episode to understand why I’m standing behind Risewell as a company!

When you're making a nice meal for your family, the last thing you want to do is worry about chemicals leaching into their food from the pots and pans. And on the flip side of the same coin, it also stinks to have a bunch of crusty food firmly stuck to the pans once you're done.
It's a constant battle between convenience and health. Of course, the idea of non-stick pans is very appealing. But, as you might remember from our episode all about PFAs, ingredients like Teflon can pose a major risk to your health. So today, I'm taking you through three categories of cookware. We'll start with the "avoid at all cost" pots and pans and how to spot them on your next shopping trip.
Then, we'll move on to the convenient and not-quite-as-bad for you category. I'll take you through the pros and cons of PFAS-free nonstick coatings from brands like GreenPan and Caraway (trust me, I've tried them all). Generally, the options in this category have a short life span and might end up costing you more in the long run.
And finally, we've got the toxin-free options I swear by! Keep in mind - these still have their drawbacks when it comes to convenience and cost. So at the end of the day, it's all about making the decision that makes the most sense for you and your family with all of the information at your fingertips!
