Happy Valentine's Day!! This week Moni and Kat review the novel "Erasure" by Percival Everett. The story follows Thelonious "Monk" Ellison, a black author frustrated with the commercial success of stereotypical hood-spolitation fiction or "ghetto fiction." In response, he wrote a parody of this genre called "My Pafology," under the pseudonym Stag R. Leigh. Unexpectedly, "My Pafology" becomes a sensation, leading Monk to confront questions of authenticity, exploitation, and the commodification of black culture.
