Troy Kurniawan is the name behind the brand of Similar Outskirts. Troy has been writing music for almost a decade, and brings a cohesive combination of melodic electronic and bass music, which he calls “honesty in melodies”. Recently, Troy has been making steady growth with the success of two EPs on UK-based music producer Chime’s record label Rushdown, which has been a major pioneer in the rise of the color bass movement in bass music. The future is definitely a bright one for Troy, with more music along the way hoping to leave an impact on the underground EDM community.
In this episode, Troy and I talk about his recent entry into Disciple's Second Biggest Remix Competition of All Time, finding inspiration outside of electronic music and other creative mediums, and how music reflects us as musicians.

In recent years, Skye Kothari (AKA acloudyskye) has become one of the most highly regarded figures in underground electronic music scenes. The producer, composer, and vocalist native to New York City broke through with a unique style attracting ears from all parts of the electronic world, receiving support from artists such as San Holo, Porter Robinson, ILLENIUM & Martijn van Sonderen from Noisia. Skye is only one of a handful of concept producers who have emerged into underground electronic scenes with an emphasis on songwriting, balancing melody and bass, and worldbuilding.
In this episode, Skye sat down with me for his first ever live interview to talk about his recent sophomore album "Blood Rushing Like Current Through A Powerline," his creative process in both his music and his art, and the evolution of his music.

Skye Ramsay (AKA Skybreak) is a melodic bass producer from New Jersey. His signature melodic style infused with jazz has earned him the support of well-established names in electronic music such as SLANDER, William Black, PhaseOne, Chime and many more. He began playing drums at age 6, sharing numerous jam sessions with his father. Ramsay performed in his school’s jazz band and took several songwriting classes at a local music school. The Skybreak project first took flight in 2016 and has yet to settle down. Scores of Skybreak span across the years, including two full length albums (On the Other Side and Above the Clouds), several EPs and even a few official remixes for names like Dabin, William Black and more. In more recent months, Skye has landed releases with labels such as Disciple, Rushdown, Lowly, Pilot (UKF), Heaven Sent and more. His success should come as no surprise, as Skybreak hits a sweet spot between heavy festival sound design and pure musicality that very few artists can reach.
In this episode, Skye and I talk about his gap year in between high school and college, his recent rebrand, and the impact of gaming on the electronic music scene. -
From an Atlantic seaport town in New Brunswick comes Nick Fowler (AKA FWLR). FWLR does not produce a set genre, and tends to experiment in a lot of his works. In 2019, he released the bass house tune "Hot" on Monstercat in partnership with the video game Rocket League. Fresh off the release of his latest tune, “Existentia” on Monstercat, FWLR’s versatility to his sound is what makes him a great up and comer in the EDM scene.
In this episode Nick & I talk about his new release on Monstercat, his connection with his fans and also what makes a good collaboration! -
Midas Klare (AKA Inverted Silence) is a music producer from the Netherlands known for his powerful bass music sound incorporating melodic elements inspired by film & game soundtracks and jazz. Outside of music, he's known for the Ableton Live Enhancement Suite (LES), a collaborative programming project with fellow Netherlands-based music producer and YouTuber Dylan Tallchief. With official releases on established labels such as Lowly & MEGAREX under his belt, as well as support from established artists in the scene such as Aiobahn and Voltra, I was extremely excited to dive in and talk about his past successes and where a lot of his inspirations come from.

Daniel Sanchez (AKA Paper Skies) is an up and coming dubstep producer who has been a key contributor to the rise of the color bass movement in dubstep.
With EPs on labels such as Rushdown and his very own 04 Collective, as well as collaborations with artists such as Azazal, Kazukii, Jeto, Sharks, and many others, the Toronto-based producer and graphic designer is a major inspiration to a lot of younger producers and I was so honored to have him on for the first episode!!
In this episode, we talk about Dan's latest release "Datasphere" on Buygore, his production ventures before Paper Skies, and how the landscape of the electronic scene has changed (especially with the pandemic).
