Zakir Hussain's life serves as a powerful reminder that true innovation springs from the harmonious interplay of tradition and modernity. His journey, a testament to the power of a holistic education, underscores the importance of nurturing both technical expertise and the liberal arts. Just as Zakir Hussain seamlessly blended Indian classical music with jazz and rock, we must strive to bridge the gap between the "fuzzies" and the "techies," fostering a culture of interdisciplinary collaboration.
The ethical development of AI, for instance, demands a multi-faceted approach. It requires not just the expertise of computer scientists and engineers, but also the insights of philosophers, ethicists, sociologists, and artists. By incorporating diverse perspectives and embracing the humanities, we can ensure that AI is developed responsibly and serves the greater good of humanity.
This is the core message I aim to convey at my upcoming SXSW panel: "The Ethics Bugfix: Upgrade Tech to its 'Liberal Arts' Version."
