Understanding nutrition strategy is not just about knowing what to do to achieve xyz.

As an athlete (or gym goer), rehab is either something you have done or you will inevitably encounter in some form or fashion or degree in your life.

There is a general belief that doing things that result in more fat burning is automatically the answer to fat loss woes and struggling weight loss goals.
However, this is not an exact science. It does not necessarily mean it is true in a given situation.
While we interchangeably like to use fat burning and fat loss, there are specific scenarios in which this can get confused and lead to incorrect strategy and poor thinking around fat loss planning.

Dirty bulking…what is it good for? Absolutely nothing (for 97.7564% of people)
When people try to build muscle, most want it now and want it quickly. Impatience…the gyms are rife with it.
Due to the general idea and perception that to build quality muscle mass you need to eat a lot to get better and faster gains, more and more athletes and gym goers are jumping on the bandwagon of the “dirty bulking phase”.
In other words, eat anything and everything in larger than life quantities in the bid to maximise the muscle growth potential and put on as much mass as quickly as possible.
This is a silly way to go about it for the vast majority of muscle seekers! I am here to explain why.

A situation that many athletes and gym goers find themselves in, is when they finish a hard and gruelling training session or complete a sporting game and they need to kick off their fuelling…
Yet they don’t have anything prepared at home OR more commonly they are travelling at the time (perhaps an interstate or overseas sporting competition) and need to be able to make a decision on the go that will still tick off the re-fuel and recovery boxes.
What can one choose? What does one do?
There are better options, less ideal options, great options, and pretty crappy options. And it’s not always going to be a smooth logistical feat.

From creatine to pre-workout to anything in between…
More and more adolescents (both athletes and non-athletes alike) are moving towards the use of sports supplements or are considering using one.
I have had more and more parents bring their teens to see me and provide advice around supplement use.
It is a topic worth looking into as there is a good chance you are a teenager taking or wanting to take one or are a parent concerned and wanting more information.
The truth is that everything is contextual to nutrition and the same applies to the use of supplements with adolescents, so it is not black and white either.
