6 presenting tips for 2025 to help you transform your business presentations. Each tip from guests who have appeared on the show in 2024.
The 6 presenting tips for 2025 can easily be implemented and applied to most business to business sales situations.
The 6 presenting tips for 2025 and the guests who shared them are:
Jacqueline Farrington - be aware of creating presentation presence before you start to speak and use a rhetorical question, a metaphor or a bold statement to help you generate an engaging start.
Peter George - remember that your presentation is about the audience not about you and it's not you that's in the spotlight it is them. You are not speaking to inform you are speaking to transform and remember how important it is to rehearse, rehearse and rehearse.
Barbara Specter – don't show up and throw up! In other words if you are delivering a presentation think about how you can ask compelling questions and be curious and if you're doing a keynote at an event then before you present meet and greet some of the audience and use a couple of things from them when you start
Emily Schneider – PowerPoint design – every slide needs to have a particular intention – how does that slide impact your audience? And make sure that you are utilising visuals to their best and that your slides are consistent and simple
Conor Cunneen – humour is a great part of any presentation but don't try to be deliberately funny and unless you are very good don't tell jokes – allow the humour to develop naturally
Neil Gordon - transform your elevator pitch - here's a line that you could use to start your elevator pitch ‘ You know how hard it is… ‘ – use something like that and you will stand out from everybody else who will be saying things like my name is, I'm from and this is what we do
If you think you might need some help with your next key presentation book a free 15 minute Zoom call with me and we can discuss your presentation and if I can help you.
If I can then the next step would be a 40-50 minute Zoom call where we will go through your presentation and I will be your audience, your challenger and your coach.

The six sales tips for 2025 can easily be implemented and applied to most business to business sales situations.
My message when I'm working with clients is to don’t think like a sales person but think that you are there to help people buy the right things at the right time and to make it easy for them to buy
The six sales tips for 2025 and the guests who shared them are:
Will Barron – simplify your sales process – focus on what the buyer needs to make a decision and help them take that next step
Richard Harris - ask great questions and let the buyer do the majority of the talking,
Jonathan Gardner - avoid focusing on talking about your capabilities and your product service features instead focus on educating the buyers
Nancy Zare - understand your buyers personality traits get a feel for them via their websites their social media, etc… and be an active listener
Donald Kelly - use Linked In video as a direct messaging tool to potential and existing buyers instead of sending emails and check that your banner and professional headline are up-to-date.
David Connors – turn your network into sales. You might be surprised when you look just how many people you know and have connections with through various networks not just business ones - map out those relationships and use them to your advantage

Neil Gordon is a persuasion expert who focuses on helping entrepreneurs, speakers and other thought leaders deliver compelling messages.
This includes the elevator pitch.
Usually found in action when people go to networking events or indeed any situation where they get a brief amount of time to explain themselves the elevator pitch can be very samey when lots of people are taking it in turns.
Which is why this episode will help you transform your elevator pitch. The usual question that prompts the elevator pitch is 'what do you do?' Neil though suggests that you should think that the question you've actually been asked is 'what can you do for me?'
People often when delivering their elevator pitch introduce themselves, the name of the company and then they describe the product or service they offer in the context of a customer or indeed an industry
Neil offers a much better four step alternative:
Step One - describe a problem your audience can relate to 'You know how hard it is.....' - Neil calls this framing the problem
Step Two - explain the common flawed solutions to the problem 'and often people think the best way to solve this is to....'
Step Three - introducing what Neil call’s the ‘Silver Bullet’ solution - which includes a single powerful sentence that sums up the problem and your solution. Neil shares several examples of this during the recording.
Step Four - explain what you do and how you can help - 'I help....so that they .......'
You can find Neil at neilcanhelp.com and on his website you can access tons of free resources to help you transform your elevator pitch and become much more persuasive.
I think Neil’s ideas will enable you to transform your elevator pitch so give them a go and stand out from everyone else next time you go networking!
If you think you might need some help with your next key sales pitch book a free 15 minute Zoom call with me and we can discuss your sales pitch and if I can help you.

Delivering Confident and Impactful Presentations - something all presenters aspire to do. So how can you end up delivering confident and impactful presentations?
Confidence Boosters:Knowledge, Clothes and Notes - You are likely to be presenting on a subject you know well. You may even be an expert. Your audience are there for you. They want to learn from and he enthused by you. Look good, feel good. Choose clothes which you feel good in. Postcard size prompt cards give you something to hold. One or two words per slide can act as your prompt / safety net if you need it. Write big enough so you see the prompt at a glance. Preparation and Practice - Do thorough preparation - focus on what you know and what your audience are expecting. Don’t go overboard on detail. Minimise slides and what’s on them. Take practice seriously. Time it. Speak out-loud standing up if that is how you will be delivering your presentation. Distraction - The most nervous time is often the 10-15 minutes before you start. Use that time to meet & greet your audience, plan your evening, your next holiday - anything to take your mind off thinking about your presentation. Creating Impact:Start with Audience not you - Your audience want to be engaged, educated, enthused, even entertained by you. So from the get go talk about them, not about you. They are not interested in you, only how what you are sharing with them will benefit them. So no drum banging, awards, client logos or team pics at the start! Maximum of 3 Messages - Regardless of how long your presentation is focus on delivering for your audience no more than three key messages. They can remember and act upon three but they can’t remember six or eight or 27. Use your Voice - Your voice is a key tool in your presentation armoury. Use it to maintain audience engagement, emphasise a key point, pick up or slow down the pace, pause for effect etc…Your voice can give you presence and boost your energy. Practice out-loud. Using your voice will stand you out.
Here's how:If you think you might need some help with your next key presentation book a free 15 minute Zoom call with me and we can discuss your presentation and if I can help you.
If I can then the next step would be a 40-50 minute Zoom call where we will go through your pitch and I will be your audience, your challenger and your coach.

No More Boring Presentations with Ivan Wanis Ruiz
Ivan is a communication maverick and international speaker, renowned for his book End Boring: A Tactical Approach to Public Speaking and Communication.
With over 15 years of experience, Ivan founded Public Speaking Lab to revolutionise communication skills training. Drawing from neuroscience, stand-up comedy, and police interrogation techniques, he has trained over half a million people worldwide.
We talk about body language, eye contact, the belly button rule, slides all with an end goal of helping ensure you don’t deliver a boring presentation
We talked about the three traps that presenters fall into firstly formality, secondly speaking in the third person and thirdly too many details.
Ivan’s Top tip number one is practice where people can see you which could be a cafeteria or a park bench or even before you go live and when people are arriving at the conference or event venue
Top tip number two is if you're delivering a technical presentation with quite a bit of detail every third or fourth slide simply put in a picture with no words on the slide and introduce it either as a precursor to what you have just been talking about or as an introduction to the information you're going to about to share on the following few minutes

This episode goes out on November 5th.
Presidential election day in the US
Bonfire night in the UK
In the UK we say Remember, Remember the 5th of November.
The 5th of November in question was the one in 1605. A bunch of people plotted to blow up King James 1 who was attending the House of Lords as part of the State Opening of Parliament. The plot was discovered just in time following a tip off.
One of the gang was Guido Fawkes. Guy Fawkes has become the name most associated with the plot. Effigies of him are burnt on bonfires and fireworks lit on November 5th.
So on the theme of Remember, Remember here are 10 things you need to remember when presenting:
Remember your presentation is about your audience not youRemember to arrive early when presenting in person or virtuallyRemember to check in advance the equipment such as screen size that will be available to you Remember to take practise seriouslyRemember if you forget something during the presentation only you will knowRemember your audience are keen to learn from you - you know your stuff that’s why you’ve been asked to presentRemember to be yourself Remember to have a glass of water handy should you need itRemember to empty your pockets and get rid of lanyards etc…Remember to enjoy presenting! If would like my help with your key presentation or sales pitch you can find me at: https://www.trevorjlee.com

Become a Frequent Speaker with Cam Beaudoin
Cam Beaudoin is the founder of The Frequent Speaker.
In this episode Cam shares tips and insights into helping would be speakers get going and move from free to paid gigs.
Cam describes how important narrowing down not just your subject but also your audience is if you are going to be a successful speaker.
He describes it as having a signature talk, something you get known for and the more focused your talk the easier it will be for event planners to hire you - monopolise that niche is Cam’s advice.
Cam suggests you think about who will be in the first 5 rows of your audience - what do they want help with from you?
Having a speaking reel is imperative - 2-3 minutes which shows you in action - free gigs are great opportunities to gather material - get them filmed, get organiser testimonials, audience feedback, ensure you can use the event logo etc…

Why is it that whenever we sit through a presentation whether that's an internal one or one at an event or one in a sales pitch format do we more often than not have to encounter slides that are largely packed with lots of words?
And when I mean lots of words, I mean more than five or six words on a slide.
In this episode of the Better Presentations More Sales podcast I want to talk about words on presentation slides.
I believe that we should minimise the words on the slides. I ran a poll on LinkedIn recently asking the question ‘what was the purpose of having words on slides?’Almost half of the respondents said the words were there as a prompt for the presenter which suggested to me that most people think as a presenter the slides are there for you to read from
So what does that say?
If you're reading the slides I think it says one or both of these things:Firstly you've not done enough practice so you need the slides to tell you what to say
And secondly you might not know about the subject so you read the slides to sound as though you do
Either way that's not great.
So folks here's the challenge for you next time you deliver a presentation
Start with one word and then add to it if you really need to.
Please please please avoid slides with loads of bullet point sentences!
So come on folks help me rid the world of presentation slides cluttered with loads of words!

Robert Kennedy III is the founder and CEO of Kennetik Communications and is an Event Speaker, Corporate Facilitator, Emcee/Host and Author/Storyteller.
In this episode Robert shares tips and insights into helping you deliver business presentations with energy and enthusiasm.
Robert describes how important laughter is - if you can make people laugh during your presentation you have created a connection that will make your presentation memorable for them.
And how to deal with an audience who doesn’t laugh when you had planned laughter for them!
We talk about the power of visuals and the power of body language to create audience energy.
And how to create a great finish to your presentation.
Robert’s two tips for listeners at the end of the episode are:
Plan your end point - what do you want the audience to walk away withEnergy - what is the energy you want to bring to each time you present or speak - if you are passionate and enthusiastic about the idea you are sharing you heighten the likelihood that people will engage with youWe also touch upon the role of the Emcee / Event Compere and how important that role is to the success of your in-house conference / event as there’s so much more to the role than event hosts - especially for in-house - often underestimate.

Lots of business people either dislike or avoid presenting through a lack of confidence.
In this episode I'm going to share with you some ideas for boosting your presentation confidence.
Remember your audience are keen to hear from you because you are going to be sharing tips, ideas, advice and techniques etc.. based on your expertise, if you don't present they miss out.
On that basis they want you to do well. Knowing that is a confidence booster.Spending time preparing well is a way of boosting your presentation confidence. Plan to start with something you are very familiar with which could be a big stat, a short story or maybe a prop – ensuring they are relevant to your presentation.
Practice will also be way of boosting your presentation confidence. Speak your presentation out loud and take practice seriously.
And then when it comes to the presentation day itself make sure you have something to eat, that you're wearing confident clothes, that your notes are postcard not A4 size and that you arrive early in a positive frame of mind.
Ideal if you can do a room rehearsal of your first minute or two before anybody else arrives and then meet and greet the people that you're going to be presenting to. I hope you see these as ways of boosting your presentation confidence.

Jonathan Gardner has a long career as a buyer with some of the world's biggest companies and he's now using the practical knowledge he acquired to help sales people pursue and close large accounts.
In this episode we talk about the challenges that people currently face and the benefits that Jonathan brings to them from being on the other side of the presentation or sales pitch.
Jonathan talks about what he calls the pitches that hit the mark and the ones that don't!
These are usually the ones where the presenter or pitchers focuses on talking about their capabilities and the features of their product or service rather than the benefits it offers to the audience or prospective client. We also touch upon corporate slides and Jonathan suggests that if you have to use them then put most of them in the appendix and just leave one or two towards the beginning but tell a story around them because people love stories.
As Jonathan states the sales people who do well when they pitch are the ones who share things with their audience that they don't already know and they demonstrate that they have clearly thought about what the audience need and come up with some ideas to help them.
Jonathan's top tips are to have a storyline that fits in with your slide deck and to power map the room in other words know who is in your audience and then when you deliver the pitch be listening and watching all the time for signals that you can then utilise to your advantage.Jonathan believes that the characteristics of great sales people today are their ability to listen, their knowledge of analytics, and to have a well rounded approach that means they can pivot and be flexible depending on how the pitch or presentation is progressing.

Chris Marr is a client communication expert and the founder of The Authoritative Coach. He wants us not to be people pleasers.
As a coach Chris encourages his clients not to be people pleasers - instead to challenge those they are working with. The same applies to your presentation. Don't make it a people pleaser make it a people challenger. Your audience will get so much more from it if you take that approach.
Chris's top tip: What is your first question going to be when you present? - one that will both engage and challenge your audience from the start.
We talk about why it’s a good idea to bring up early a potential resistance or objection, why as a presenter you need to be respected before you are liked and why you need to adapt your presentation for your audience. So many presenters use the same presentation for every audience.Chris has found that as a coach people want to be challenged and as a presenter you need to challenge your audience.
Chris shares his four step approach to presentations and speaking to audiences: Question : Story : Result : ChallengeYou can find Chris at The Authoritative Coach and on Instagram under the same name.

I recently ran a poll on LinkedIn asking that very question 'What makes a business presentation boring?'
Respondents were given a choice of four answers:
The presenters voiceThe content of the slides. The length of the presentation. The presenters interaction with the audience. It was a close run thing between the presenters voice and their interaction with the audience.
The results prompted this episode which you can also find on YouTube.
So I'm sharing with you some tips and ideas around all four of the subjects listed in the poll to ensure that next time you deliver a business presentation is definitely not boring!

Effective communication is perhaps the single most important factor in business to quote my guest on this week’s Better Presentations More Sales podcast Steve Blue

He is a keynote speaker and has addressed audiences at Harvard Business School, The United Nations, Carnegie Hall, The Safe America Foundation, Industry Week, The World Safe Summit, CEO Clubs International, and Medtronic Corporation. Steve describes his communication style in three words: Action, Energy and Movement.
On the podcast he shares some great tips and ideas to help ensure that when you are delivering a presentation or sales pitch or a keynote that you avoid being a fuzzy communicator.
And Steve shares his three C’s of critical communication which are:
to be Clear to have a Compelling message and to be ConvincingDuring the recording Steve shares ways in which you can be all of those, including recording yourself when you are communicating and then reviewing that with the help of someone who will help you identify where you are fuzzy and how to overcome that.

On Saturday August 3rd I took part in a coastal path running festival on the Roseland Peninsula in Cornwall.
The festival offered several options all finishing at race HQ near St Austell. I was in for the 32 miler. A single stretch from St Anthony’s Head.
I dropped out after 21 miles at the Gorran Haven checkpoint.
So what went wrong and what lessons can be learnt from that with regard to presenting and pitching?
On reflection my preparation wasn’t good enough.
I simply hadn’t done enough training. I’d been doing 60-70 miles a month but that wasn’t enough and my long training runs weren’t long enough.
I also got my fuelling wrong. I carried loads of gels and food with me. I simply didn’t eat enough of it, in the right order at the right times. My fault because I knew how to do this. My fuelling plan a]was too lax.
I’ve reflected a lot of what happened. And I’ve listened to others.
My big goal is the Arc of Attrition 50 miler at the end of January 2025. As I started to really struggle at around mile 16 my thoughts were that the Arc 50 was a ridiculous idea with no chance of me doing it.
However I’ve changed my mind on that. But I do need a four month training plan and a better fuelling strategy.
So how does this link to business presentations?
Inevitably they don’t always go to plan.
Why do presentations go wrong?Very much like my run it’s combination of preparation and practice.
Generally speaking in my experience occasional business presenters underestimate how important to success preparation and practice are.
When you’re on a 32 mile run it’s obvious when you’ve under prepared
Maybe not so obvious when you deliver a business presentation
Whenever you’ve delivered a business presentation take some time afterwards to reflect on what happened:
Did you achieve your Purpose? In other words the outcome you were seeking?
Were your audience engaged throughout?
Did you have slides that weren’t actually needed or contained too many words?
How did you leave it with your audience - did you agree the next steps?
If there was a Q&A how did that go?
Did you run on time? If you didn’t why was that?
What would you do differently next time?
Whether we are running 32 miles or delivering a business presentation we can always do better time - if that’s what you want - and why wouldn’t you want that?
You can keep in touch with how I’m getting on via my Arc of Attrition Training Diary and the Running 44@60 podcast.

It’s so easy when you’re invited to deliver a presentation to forget to check in advance the venue that you are going to be speaking at in terms of the size of the room, the equipment available and the seating for the audience.
I witnessed this firsthand recently at a business event. It was a big breakfast style event with 180 people squeezed into a rectangular space.
There were a few sponsor type speakers who in return for sponsoring the event had been offered a 5 to 10 minute slot.
I suspect none of them prior to the event checked the equipment that was going to be available to them, particularly in terms of the screen and the microphone.
The screen was a big TV on wheels which was fine if you were sitting close to the where the speaker was standing but for the rest of audience (about 80%) the screen wasn’t within their line of view.
So when the speakers used either slides or videos the vast majority of their audience could not see what they were showing and for the videos the audio was just coming out through the screen.
So check:
Screen size, positioning, video audio and clicker
Microphone
Speaking position in relation to audience.
You also need to check:
How you will be introduced
How any Q&A will work
And how much time you have for your presentation
