Bio:
Despite the challenges of atrocity prevention, Mike shares how hope and idealism remain central to driving positive change.Mike Brand is a human rights, atrocities prevention, and peacebuilding professional with experience in policy, advocacy, organizing, and education. Throughout his career, Mike has worked for various non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in the United States, Rwanda, and South Sudan, and has done fieldwork in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda. Mike supports civil society organizations and diaspora networks in strategic planning, program development, and achieving their advocacy and organizing objectives. He has been published in peer-reviewed journals, national and international publications, and has been quoted in international news outlets as an expert in his field. Mike is also an Adjunct Professor of mass atrocities prevention and human rights at Georgetown University and the University of Connecticut. He holds a Master of Arts in International Peace and Conflict Resolution from American University, with a concentration in human rights and atrocities prevention, and Bachelors of Arts in History and Political Science with a minor in human rights from the University of Connecticut.

In 2002, she was awarded an OBE for services to the Broadcasting and Film industry. As CEO of the Tony Elumelu Foundation, she masterminded and executed a comprehensive entrepreneurship programme that significantly impacted over 10,000 African entrepreneurs in 54 African nations from 2014 to 2021. She continues to advocate for entrepreneurship as the best path for the continent's social and economic development, changing the African narrative through entrepreneur stories and helping shape the agenda for the growth of African entrepreneurship. Parminder Vir lends her strategic insights as an Advisory Board Member of Mamamoni Limited and HelpMum, contributes as a Narrative Advisor at Mustard Venture Agency, and is a director at Zikora Media and Arts Cultural Heritage Initiative, an inspirational cultural institution for Africa.

About Victor:
Victor Ochen is the Founder and Executive Director of AYINET, an organization providing essential reconstructive care, advocacy, and youth empowerment to communities affected by war in Uganda. Raised in a refugee camp amidst the violent conflict of northern Uganda, Victor’s career journey began at age 13, when he formed a Peace Club to stand against child soldier recruitment. Today, his work has transformed the lives of over 21,000 victims of war and empowered countless young people to take leadership in peace and justice. Victor is the youngest African ever nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, a UN Goodwill Ambassador for Peace and Justice, and a global advocate for sustainable peace and SDG Goal 16. She has worked with 16 universities, NGOs, and international agencies across 14 countries, using decolonial frameworks to advocate for social justice. Currently based in California, Mara is a fellow at Georgetown University’s Collaborative on Global Children’s Issues. Rachel’s career has taken her across five countries, where she has worked with thousands of individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. She started as a Division One soccer player and then transitioned into coaching and teaching and then leadership development. Rachel also trained and competed in the sport of freediving which took her to different places around the world. Rachel currently coaches leaders, founders, athletes, and students, helping them develop key skills like motivation, confidence, and resilience. She’s based in Washington D.C., splitting her time between the U.S. and South America, and serves as Vice President of an environmental nonprofit. Rachel holds a master’s in Applied Positive Psychology, which is the science of human flourishing.

John’s work has taken him into the heart of conflict zones, where he developed innovative approaches to peacebuilding, using media to bridge divides in war-torn societies and fostering dialogue between deeply opposed groups. His efforts have earned global recognition, including a Nobel Peace Prize nomination for Search for Common Ground in 2018.
Beyond his work with Search for Common Ground, John is a Skoll Awardee for Social Entrepreneurship, an Ashoka Senior Fellow, and a visiting scholar in peacebuilding and social entrepreneurship at Leiden University. He is also an accomplished author, known for his books on intelligence and peacebuilding, including The CIA and the Cult of Intelligence, a New York Times best-seller, and the award-winning Search for the “Manchurian Candidate.”
John’s upcoming book, “From Vision to Action: Remaking the World Through Social Entrepreneurship,” dives into his approach to negotiation, conflict resolution, and social entrepreneurship. It’s essential reading for anyone passionate about making a real difference.

María Antonia Pérez is a committed and passionate Colombian woman with over 20 years of experience in social transformation. She has developed impactful processes in the social, cultural, and educational fields, leveraging strategic and creative thinking, education for peace, and social transformation. Her work spans multiple sectors, particularly with international non-profit organizations.
María Antonia has contributed to art, peace culture Peacebuilding, and social transformation projects in Colombia, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, and Japan. She has served as an advisor to the international NGO Peace Boat, promoting peace education programs, sustainable tourism, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. With a Master's Degree in Management of Social Innovation and Local Development, and as a Rotary Peace Fellow, a Positive Peace Activator and a Asia-Pacific Leadership program alumni, she has made significant strides in fostering peace and cultural citizenship.
Previously, María Antonia worked on Cultural Citizenship positions in Bogota and Medellin with the City halls leading projects of Art for social transformation.
