This week, we turn our attention to the middle - and certainly the best known - sister of our glamorous trio, Zsa Zsa Garbor. In this Part One of her life, we follow the irrepressible Zsa Zsa her through her first marriage - and perhaps an affair with the founder of the Turkish Republic, Kemal Ataturk - as well as her move to the US, where she promptly destroyed her sister Eva's first marriage, for reasons that were never clear to Eva herself. Zsa Zsa likely thought "such is life when you're a Gabor," and after all, Conrad Hilton was waiting to scoop her out of obscurity.

Dahlinks - hold on to your hats for the story of Magda Gabor, the eldest and perhaps the most undercover of the Glamorous Gabor sisters. Magda, continuing the family tradition of being well-versed in the art of falling in love and getting married, also had some nasty breakups. But there's so much more to her story, from her World War II experiences working with the Hungarian Resistance against the Nazi occupiers, to being a significant part of the brains behind her mother's New York jewelry business. She may be lesser known than her sisters, but her story is every bit as fascinating.

The youngest of the Gabor sisters was Eva, and to say that Eva worked for the career that Zsa Zsa sauntered into would be about right. An earnest actor, Eva toiled in relative obscurity for a quarter of a century before landing the role that finally made her a household name: Lisa Douglas, a big-city wife whose husband decides to leave it all behind for the bliss of their very own Green Acres. Through it all, in typical Gabor fashion, Eva married and divorced and married again (and divorced again, and again) and branched out into entrepreneurial endeavors, including Eva Gabor Wigs.

Jolie Gabor, mother of the famous sisters, grew up in Budapest, Hungary, just in time for the tumultuous 20th century to unfold. Her mother's family was in the jewelry business - put a pin in that - and as a girl, Jolie dreamed of a life in the theater. Her parents were having none of it, and forced her into a not overwhelmingly wanted marriage that almost immediately produced three daughters. But rather than give up on her acting dreams, she just transferred her drive for celebrity and notoriety onto those daughters. The rest, as they say, is history.

The Gabor sisters were some of the most iconic cultural figures in the second half of the 20th century, having arrived on our shores from Nazi-occupied Hungary, where they experienced loss and engaged in heroic resistance. Along with their mother, Jolie, sisters Eva, Zsa Zsa, and Magda, stormed the mid-century zeitgeist and lived through extremely complicated family dynamics, as well as complicated romantic entanglements - including, between them all - 23 marriages, 18 divorces, two widowhoods, and two annulments. They were allies and rivals, poly-linguists, artisans, and entrepreneurs. But mostly, they were women possessed of a drive to succeed and an eternal willingness to bend their stories to suit the moment at hand.
This month, Trashy Divorces is proud to present the lives and loves of The Glamorous Gabors, an eight-episode arc bringing these four amazing women into focus in the 21st century.
The Glamorous Gabors was researched and written by Melanie Shawn, with our deep gratitude.

Best known for playing TV's most complicated serial killer, Dexter, actor Michael C. Hall has had his share of romantic ups and downs - not to mention a private cancer battle in the midst of his brief second marriage, to Dexter co-star Jennifer Carpenter. His personal background certainly sheds light on some of the professional choices he's made, and which audiences have loved.
We are taking our mid-season break, but will be the second week of March to kick off Season 27!

It’s funny to think that back in the 1980s, a leak of nude pictures could cause a headline-grabbing scandal, but that’s exactly what happened to the first Black woman to ever wear the Miss America crown. Vanessa Williams, then 21, was roundly demonized in the press, and was subjected to intense public outrage for her supposed transgression. She was even forced to resign her crown, an overreaction that the pageant would apologize for decades later. Alicia has the whole sorry saga, and the powerful comeback story of one of the great talents in American entertainment – plus a couple of divorces!

In 1936, America was shocked by the details that emerged in a murder trial in New York City. A young heiress, romanced by an older German financier with deep ties to the Nazi party, decided to end things when it became clear that he wouldn't end his marriage to his wife in Germany. Dr. Fritz Gebhardt took Vera Stretz's rejection badly, a gun was drawn, and when police arrived around 2:30 that morning, Fritz was dead and Vera refused to explain why she'd shot him.

Back in 2021, Stacie was captivated by the tale of betrayal told by Barbara Berry, the first wife of superlawyer Johnnie Cochran. For years, he juggled two families and an eye-popping number of other mistresses, while also subjecting Barbara to physical and emotional abuse more directly.

Check out of the noise of the world with a podcast covering people who've already checked out - but had their own brushes with fame before they went. Dead and Kind of Famous is a delightful new podcast from Courtney Blomquist (not famous) and Marissa Rivera (kind of famous) that examines the lives of the people who reside at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. But these aren't the interred A-listers like Judy Garland and Burt Reynolds. These are the other people, the ones who pressed up against fame but never quite got their feet on it, and whose stories are certainly as interesting as their better known brethren.

Fourth quarter time, Trash Pandas, and while we have no idea what the score is on the other game, over here, it's three up, one to go. Back in 2022, Alicia covered the absolute pressure cooker of the first marriage of Beatles drummer Ringo Starr, and today he'll close out our special Game Day Trashy Divorces Encore Plus.

And we're back from the half-time break with our third quarter musical champion, Paul McCartney! Sir Paul's second marriage - and first divorce - to Heather Mills was public, trashy, and extremely expensive, just the way we like them.

In the second quarter of our Game Day Trashy Divorces Encore Plus series, Alicia heads back to her April 2020 story that puts some realism into the man, the myth, the legend: John Lennon. Turns out that the voice of a generation was pretty awful in his first marital go-round.

As you may know, there's a big football game coinciding with our regular Sunday releases, so we thought we'd indulge some trashy champions of our own: The Fab Four. In this Beatles-themed Game Day spectacular, we begin with Alicia's Season One story of the terribly trashy love triangle between Beatle George Harrison, his wife, model Pattie Boyd, and guitar legend Eric Clapton.

We know you love a good Dumpster Dive (our analytics make that very clear!), so we're back with another rundown of all the celebrity news that fits. In the dumpster this week:
A case from the UK where a 25-year-old woman has pleaded guilty to "cyber-farting" messages to her boyfriend's ex as a form of harassment.
Melissa Gilbert took some strays from washed up emotional vampire Megyn Kelly over a Little House on the Prairie reboot and let's just say that America's Sweetheart was having none of it.
Actress Isla Fisher ended 2024 with a note of gratitude as she navigates her post-divorce life from comedian Sacha Baron Cohen.
Biana Censori, partner or wife of antisemitic rapper Ye, let it all hang out at the Grammys the other night, before police escorted both of them away from the event.
Is Jennifer Garner's boyfriend trying to bail? Page Six has an odd piece about a supposed "insider" complaining on businessman boyfriend John Miller's behalf about how much time Jen is spending with her ex-husband Ben Affleck. Something to watch?

In this Encore Plus episode, Alicia’s got the intense story of Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown, which we first aired back in September of 2019. Whitney, of course, was an incredible talent whose path was in many ways set by the agendas of those around her. Her 14-year-long marriage to Bobby Brown was ultimately catastrophic, and her untimely death was tragic beyond words.

In a world gone mad, celebrities continue to make terrible decisions! This week we're (mostly) leaning into the trashy rather than the divorces for a Dumpster Dive!
Up first, Alicia has a Baldwin Corner, where we discuss Alec and Hilaria's new reality show, and the strong doses of something that appear to be driving Billy Baldwin and Chynna Phillips back into each other's arms.
Jessica Simpson is single again.
Stacie gets into the Blake Lively/Justin Baldoni lawsuit war and is eager for some under-oath testimony, because both of these things cannot be true.
And Alicia has an article that upends a lot of the usual takes about how men and women experience relationships and breakups.
